Ubuntu Multimedia :: Music But No Sound In Runescape - 10.10
Apr 30, 2011
I am using ubuntu 10.10
When playing the Java based Game "Runescape", I am able to get the game music, but absolutely no sound effects or scenery sound. I have checked that all are at maximum volume, my sound works for everything else I do in total - this includes skype, ..... and minecraft - but not for the sounds in runescape.
I can copy and paste into a terminal, but that is about it.
I have no sound after upgrading to 11.04. Sound control panel and test speakers emits no sound. The new music player won't play sounds from music CDs either.
My sound on Runescape stops and picks up, is very choppy and annoying. I'm using Debian "Lenny". Sound on everything else works just fine (Flash, VLC, etc...)
I just started to play with ssh so I connected to my media-pc with ssh from my laptop. I was always able to start a music player and play the music on the media-pc. Since yesterday the sound is gone. When I do top on the mediapc, I see my player running. When I open my player locally on the mediapc, I can hear the music.
I think the sound disappeared after a update, but maybe it disappeared because I opened a player locally (on the mediapc) I don't know.
The laptop and mediapc both use a fully updated 9.10
update: when I connect from mediapc to laptop, I can play music on my laptop
Sometimes (quite frequently) during the normal use of my laptop (64bit Ubuntu 9.10), if I do not play songs nor anything else, I get annoying sounds, like when guitarists cable their instruments while ampli are on.Apparently this happens particularly when I open new windows or new tabs in my browser, when I shut down my pc, etc...
i am using music composing software like nted and denemo.the problem is that when i play the score, i dont hear anything.this is not the case for other programs like videos on firefox, or playing dvds or listening to mp3s.the problem is only with these music composition softwares.
I have some seemingly interrelated issues with music CDs that I can't find threads about. Music CDs don't mount, they just spin for a bit then sit there. While a music CD is in the tray, sound juicer (Audio CD extractor) dies with a Segmentation fault. Rhythmbox dies too with this fault:
Code: ** (rhythmbox:3526): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed ** (rhythmbox:3526): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed Segmentation fault This only happens while a music CD is in the tray. All other times, the programs run fine.
I have a fresh debian install on my computer, and I have this weird problem. When I play a song from rhythmbox, it works for 10 to 50 seconds, and then it stops making sound. When I type
alsa force-reload
It reloads alsa, and I can listen to a song again for approx 50 seconds. It is not depended of rhythmbox, because the same problem occures for amarock and banshee. I already installed the package libesd-alsa0 and put esd on, but the problem still occures. What is happening? I wanted to add 1 thing. And that is that I ahve 2 sound devices installed, both supporting alsa. 1 onboard, 1 pci card.
The strange thing is that only from the pci card, I can hear sound out of the speakers (after replugging the jack in the back off course ). But if, after an alsa force-reload, only the onboard sound card is detected, it does play the whole song, but does not output any sound.
I recently bought a new notebook, an Asus N73JQ. This notebook has a special sound system called "Bang & Olufsen ICEpower". The first thing I did was to install Ubuntu 64-bit. After installing and rebooting I am certain that i heard the Ubuntu login sound but ten minutes later when i tried playing music with Spotify all sound was gone. The login sound now gone too. I have tried editing settings in System -> Preferences -> Sound, with no luck. The settings dialog lists two sound devices, "Internal Audio Analog Stereo" and "HDA NVidia Digital Stereo (HDMI)". Sound output device is set to the Internal Analog ** device. I have tried different profiles for this device but nothing seems to work. Does anyone here have the same notebook/sound system with a working sound configuration?
So, after an update my sound stopped working at all. Music won't even play on Banshee. I tried fixing this several ways with no luck. Now, my computer's sound output is stuck at "Dummy".
1 i have tried to get my sound output working in totem kaffiene and banshee to no avail. reading through several blogs posts and the such of likes has gotten me to ttry and set pulse alsa and oss so im even more confused. i can get a sound test to play but cannot get music to work??
2 i would really like to use audacity to record but it keeps hanging after about three seconds. i purchased a new acer aspire 5532 and deleted windows 7 to encounter
I'd like to be able to grab the actual bytes of sound that's being played/executed on my computer (whether from microphone, mp3 or flash) and be able to use the stream in realtime in a program (either c, c++ or java). Anyone know how to do this?
this problem is quiet enoying, so i hope that somebody can help me tracking down this problem and find a solution. When i open vlc or exaile and queue a list of tracks, after playing some hours, the sound hangs and in the music player repeats the same 1 second audio part like a hickup, in video programs like vlc also the film freezes.
i have the latest libraries of gstreamer from packman installed and i also tried updating the pulseaudio libraries from multimedia repo. but the problem is still the same
I just got my hands on an MSI E7235-295US and slapped Ubuntu 9.10 on it. So far everything's worked great, but I am beginning to get a bit concerned about my sound quality. The laptop itself has 5 speakers + subwoofer so I should be getting 5.1 sound, if I understand things correctly (the newegg link should provide more details) and when I play anything (music, flash, videos, games, etc...) the sound comes out 'muffled'. Almost as if it is in a concert hall, maybe. I initially wondered if the problem is related to the 5 speakers and if the sound is initially only setup for two. If that is the case, nothing I've done has seemed to made any real difference. I've tried changing the master/pci channels, but it only hides it a little, and doesn't solve the problem.
This seemed to be on the right track, but the laptop is still really new and not listed in the alsa file.

I've had an awkward problem lately: every music player I use wants to instead of play music from my USB external hard drive, stream music from it. I have no idea why it suddenly started doing that. It may have been an accidental key-combo I pressed, thinking I had another window targeted and didn't bother pressing it again for my Totem music player. So I closed out of Totem in hopes that Rythmbox would work like totem used to. Well, it doesn't. It wants to stream music now.The problem with the streaming music is trivial, but here it is: I have a playlist with a little over 300 songs. I have Totem set to shuffle and repeat my music. Streaming music with it makes it just stop randomly after a few songs, and when I try to pause music and play it later it takes a good 30 seconds before it kicks back in at the beginning of the song.Like I always ask because I don't know enough to give back to the community yet, can anyone help me? Thanks.
I use Ubuntu Lucid Lynx, live CD install, and I can't play runescape (or such) with the only available java plugin. In firefox, doesn't even finish updating runescape. In opera, when I use the member's login, the applet just shuts down. Known problem in opera: The page has to refresh to get rid of the ads when you sign in as member, I think the plugin doesn't like refreshing while logged in.
I've been messing around to try and play runescape (Java based) on my laptop. I run Lucid Lynx (in dualboot with vista) and have Java installed. Now I'm trying to get Runescape to work so I have even more reason to ban Vista completely. So I installed Java, and tried in firefox (3.6.6). It loads the log in, I log in, but then I get a grey screen with "applet started" in the status bar but nothing more.
When that didn't work I did some googling and tried it with SeaMonkey(2.0.4) - same result. Would another browser help or is there something else wrong?
iv bin haveing prbles with ubuntu lately ever since i first got it i have a sound probelm when i play this game it has sound but if i go on your tube and play music no sound comes out and it just make the vido lag and i have to force quit
I am wondering if you can play Runescape on Puppy Linux(Slackware) with Java, Flash, and the plug-ins are all installed, and i use a Live Usb. Is this possible? Recommended Requirements(and please don't write the bare minimum)
I switched to Thunar as my file manager and now banshee and rhythmbox play without sound. I had a similar problem but was fixed by adding pulseaudio & to my fluxbox start up file. code...
I installed Unbuntu and tried a couple of media players to listen to music. This was a cd I put in the cd Rom. Both media players seemed to work ok, except that I was not getting any sound from either one. I did check to see if the volume control was on nil. That was ok. I do however have Sound blaster sound card installed. so my on board sound is off. I am not into the linux language as yet so I am a bit stuck at the moment.
When I started-up my computer today, there were errors in the console-text that appears while the Debian Linux OS is loading. When I got to the desktop, I tried to play music, but no sound came-out.So, I tried to uninstall the plugins I installed yesterday and restarted. I got similar errors in the console-text as earlier. When my desktop loaded, I still had no sound. I have several problems with the entire sound architecture of the computer, and I've taken a screenshot to show my problems: Screenshot-8.jpg.Does anyone here know what I could/ should do to resolve this issue? my soundcards are Rocketfish (PCI) and Realtek HD Audio (Integrated). I got Realtek to work yesterday with OSS.
I recently bought a new laptop. compaq presario CQ41 109AU. It does not come with a pre-installed OS so i've decided to put an Ubuntu on it[karmic koala 9.10]. I successfully completed the installation procedures. however, it does not produce sound when loggin in and playing music files. I gone to look if the settings where put to mute, but they were not. I tried installing a MS Vista in the other partition and the sound worked.
I recently installed Linux - fedora 10. This is the first time im working with Linux, I have no idea about Linux OS. My problem is when i playmusic in real player 10 or rhythm box, the sound switches On and Off. F10 detects my sound card, I believe there must be some settings that needs to be corrected, My sound card is inbuilt in motherboard(Intel). I ran Alsamixer and alsactl store as root.
Volume is at 100th level and it not mute. Still the same, sound switches On and Off. Should I change anything in the settings of volume control? i have choosen Device as HDA Intel (Alsa Mixer), is that correct??I ran Alsamixer and alsactl store as root. Sound can play but music can't in the game "second life" and I'm using it on ubuntu. I don't know how to fix the problem or where to begin and I had asked a tech in that game and they said it might have to do with the firewall, but wouldn't help me out because I wasn't premium. The first sentence is the problem.
I added a song to my basket and when I click Checkout....it just stays on this message "Connecting you to the Ubuntu One Music Store..." and does nothing.
I was listening to some Chopin today and I thought how cool it would be if there would be a way to put the sound output of Amarok (or anything else, maybe line-in or microphone) through some effects that would make it sound like being read from a vintage vinyl disk. Or when listening atmospheric folk songs about forests, it would be really cool to add some echo or reverberation, so it would sound like a large forest, ooor... But you get the idea. Is there any nice way of putting Amarok's sound through JACK, and from then on through a sound effector?
