Ubuntu Multimedia :: ZEN Style 300 Not Recognized?
Apr 3, 2011
My Creative ZEN Style 300 player is not recognized in Ubuntu 10.10 through media players (Rhythembox, Banshee, Gnomad2...etc) . it is recognized correctly as a removable media like any flash drive ,but not as a media player though.
I've searched a the issue and found some solutions to other Creative ZEN models ,but none worked for me.
here is my lsusb output:
Code:
Bus 002 Device 006: ID 041e:2016 Creative Technology, Ltd
I've edited the /lib/udev/rules.d/45-libmtp8.rules
file and added
Code:
# Creative ZEN Style 300

I am looking for a Rhythmbox style mediaplayer that plays dts music.VLC works excellent but it would be very nice with a GUI more suited for a music library (Artist/Album/Genre/..).I have a dual screen setup and I have the music on a separate 8" touch screen (MyhtTv on the other screen - the tv) so if there is a software handling both reular mp3/flac/ogg music and dts with a touch screen adapted gui that would be ideal.
Found a weird issue with Openshot video editor ( Gnome, squeeze amd64 ) version 1.1.3-1 ( stable ) but it also applies after upgrading to version 1.3.0-1.1 ( from sid ).
After starting Openshot there are icons ( and tabs ) missing on the toolbar :
After hovering my mouse-pointer :
After ( in menu ) : View > uncheck Toolbar and again View > check Toolbar :
Choosing another gtk-style in gnome-appearance-properties : Theme > Customize... > Controls seems to solve it. I've checked different Controls, some have the same problem and others don't.....
I have an SMB service in my apartment that has all of my media files on it. When I am on Windows and OS X I use iTunes to play my music straight off of my server, no need to copy files over to a local directory. But I have been unable to do this on Kubuntu. Every media player I have used will not add the songs from the server. What iTunes style media player will play songs via an SMB server?
I am using Debian 8 with gnome, about month ago the style of the windows of third party apps has been change example:
before
after
as you can see the style of the buttons, tabs, etc has changed. I dont know how to fix this or how this elements are called. This style is look very old and I want to change to the default..
I'm on ver 9.04. I have two DVD-RW drives. The system recognizes that I have them but when I put media into them it doesn't seem to realize I have done so with the following exception. If I boot with the media already in the drive it gets recognized and mounted.
Once mounted the DVDs play perfectly.
I do not have wubi installed.
When I try to use MOUNT I got the message: No media in drive.
connecting my ipod touch (Version 1.1.5). When I plug the ipod in, ubuntu doesnt recognize it at all, not even as a camera. It will however charge it up. Ive tried Hipo and Amarok but neither of them do anything as well. I am running Ubuntu 9.10.
i have spent the last three-ish days converting a file to avi (took so long because of audio problems) and have it perfect. i need to copy it to another computer that has micro$oft windows on it, and when i access the flash drive it doesnt recognize the file as video. and i cant copy to the local hdd. im probably missing something obvious, but i searched and got nothing. i used avidemux (2.5 i think) to convert it. it plays alright on ubuntu, and it is ok on the flash drive, but when windows sees it, it isnt recognized as video.
I've no idea what the heck is going on with my TV capture card, i went to the other posts about my Hauppauge Inc. HDPVR-1250 model 1196 but it all didn't work i have the ubuntu-restricted extras installed but mythtv is not picking up the card. i'm running ubuntu karmic.
I just bought a USB gigaware headset, and I have been trying to get them to work on my laptop, which has Ubuntu 9.10.
Unfortunately, they do not appear to be recognized almost anywhere, the only place where I have been able to find a reference to them was by using dmesg.
Previously I could plug my EOS 20D into the USB and f-spot would pop up and let me import photos. This was on 9.10. The camera is fine, it still does exactly what it did on the machine next to me which is still running 9 (or 8, I forget).
My headset, Razer Megalodon, doesn't work at all on Ubuntu 10.10. I have, however, gotten it working on aMSN settings for a moment (picked another sound channel and I heard something).
I tried to plug it intoour pc and upload some songs to it in Ubuntu, but Ubuntu does not recognizeit.I imagine, as usual, this is adriver issue. Are there any genericdrivers that work across the board?
I've been getting the hang of ubuntu. It's been a good switch from windows 7.
I'm having a bit of an issue which right now is causing me to regret deleting my windows partition. It'd be nice to have my dual boot set up right now.
Ubuntu is not recognizing my headphone output on my laptop.
I've been looking around but can't find a fix. Here's my alsa info script output.
I have a problem with the system detecting my Sony Walkman NWZ-S639F. When I plug the device, the player's screen says 'Connecting', however nothing shows up on the laptop screen. When I was running Linux Mint 10, the player connected with no problem, and since Mint 10 is basically Ubuntu 10.10 with extra software, I think that I miss certain software packages.
I have no HDMI sound for my ASUS ENGT 240 gard. I've used the recommended driver 10.04 offered and currently using the one right from [URL] for 10.04 64 bit. Don't know how to get the boxes around code, but here's what I have for aplay -l, aplay -L, and lspci.
aplay -l **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** aplay -L pulse Playback/recording through the PulseAudio sound server
My daughter has an ipod and she wants me to change tracks on it but when I plug it in on natty this message appears: Code: Error mounting: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdg2, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so I do not understand this message try dmesg what is this?
after upgrading to Karmic I started having problems with ipod and banshee.I have found out this a known problem. You can check it at the banshee siteQuote:There is a known issue with iPod not being recognized by Banshee on openSUSE 11.2 and Ubuntu Karmic.mainly because of switching from HAL to device kits, as done with Ubuntu Karmic 9.10. Related bug is #586508 "Underlying distros moving from HAL to DeviceKit breaks Podsleuthslity to mount device"More details are available atAt the timehis writing a possible workaround is reported to be the following:Quote:[...]all I would have to do is disconnect the ipod andmake sure that banshee is closed. Then open up terminal and run
Code: killall -9 nautilus Then plug in the iPod and wait about 30 seconds, then run nautilus again by hitting Alt+F2. After I ran this and opened up banshee my iPod worked like a charm
I have a numbe of music files in the ogg format, and they work fine on my Sansa Fuze. However, I recently used soundconverter to convert some flacs to ogg. These files are not showing up in the Sansa's menu once they are copied over. One thing I notice is that the file properties display as Type 'Ogg Multimedia File' for the ones that work, whereas the ones from Soundconverter display the Type 'Ogg Audio'
I'm currently in the process of seeing if I can finally make the switch to linux from windows. So far everything is good, except for my MP3 Player. I use a Samsung Intensity with a 16gb microsdhc card, connected to my computer through a USB. The problem is that Ubuntu doesn't recognize it. Now rhythmbox will recognize it if I have it set to MTP mode, but you ubuntu itself never mounts it. I need it to mount so I can drag and drop files into specific folders on the card. Otherwise I doubt rhythmbox will know where to put the files. The addition of another person to the linux family depends on it. Since I only want to use windows for certain games and not any more than that.
I have an MSI S420 with a realtek alc883 onboard. I upgraded from ubutu 8.04 to 10.4 recently, The sound worked in 8.04 although the mic did't work and the same thing in 8.10 (i went through all upgrades) it stopped working at all in 9.04 onwards.
If i did Lspci -v it did say the name of my card, ( I unmuted all in alsamixer and got the codecs but even a test soud won't work) I also dowloaded a driver from Realtek itself, that didn't work.
Then I edited alsabace.conf some more. I tried every one that could possily be it at [URL] including all that said MSI.
I then tried Lordraidens comprehensive sound guide from step 1 to step 5, I used the module-assistant and istalled a driver that was called "hda-realtek-codec" or so. It was the only appropriate one on the list.
I also run into someoe with thesame problem. [URL]
i think ill give up and use the 8.10 that is still on a other partition
I do not manage to get my my ipod touch 4g recognized by ubuntu 10.04. First time I tried, it was recognized as a camera and not as a media player. I tried to install a few other packages. Now it is not recognized at all.... I followed guidelines on the forum and installed libimobiledevice, ifuse, usbmuxd and libplist. Note I unlock my ipod before connecting it.
Here is what I get with ideviceinfo
jean-francois@Sony:~$ ideviceinfo usbmuxd_get_device_list: error opening socket! No device found, is it plugged in?
I see a lot of post related to new ipod touch 4g installation but I think I screwed up somewhere in my configuration since the ipod is not recognized at all.
I just installed the ubuntu 10.10 on my ideapad z460 everything is working fine except headphone. I can here sound in built in speakers but not in headphone. Also I observed that there is no headphone icon in sound preferences. I installed the latest alsa drivers.
my onboard soundcard (hda-intel ALC662) is not recognized in my new computer. It works fine with other distros, but ubuntu just does not seem to find it:
cat /proc/asound/cards --- no soundcards --- lspci -vvnn:
I recently rebooted my computer, switching from Vista to Ubuntu 10.10, 32 bit. I've had troubles with my webcam ever since. I've tried every single suggestion from the Ubuntu Forums and nothing works, and I am now quite desperate..
I'm installed Cheese but nothing else than a green dotted screen appears, I've also tried gucview which tells me that my webcam is recognized under the name of USB 2.0 Camera.
When I enter lsusb in the terminal, here is what appears:
natacha@natacha-EasyNote-MX36:~$ lsusb Bus 006 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
[Code].....
The webcam doesn't work with any program, but since it does partially work with Cheese, I would think that I either have to install an additional driver or that my camera is not compatible with Ubuntu, which would really suck.
The closest similar case I've found on the net was this one : [URL] . Apparently it's about a Bug 16575 but the problem doesn't seem to have been resolved either.
