I'm on ver 9.04. I have two DVD-RW drives. The system recognizes that I have them but when I put media into them it doesn't seem to realize I have done so with the following exception. If I boot with the media already in the drive it gets recognized and mounted.
Once mounted the DVDs play perfectly.
I do not have wubi installed.
When I try to use MOUNT I got the message: No media in drive.
I have an up-to-date FC12 that doesn't recognize blank disk media when I insert it. It recognizes and play commercial CD/DVDs and ones I've burned on other machines. However when I insert a blank DVD/CD no messages appear in the log and no icon on the desktop.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an NTFS volume on my system which I regularly access from within Ubuntu 9.10, mostly to play the plethora of DVD images (*.iso files) stored there. I use VLC Media Player to watch the content. For some reason, VLC's file browser only shows a small subset of the files by default. I have to select "All Files" instead of "Media Files" to see all the *.iso's.
What's this about? Since they're all the same type of file, I don't understand why some would be viewed as "media files" but others not. If the files were on a Linux-type filesystem (ext3 etc.) I would guess it had something to do with permissions, but I'm not sure how file ownership & permissions apply to a mounted NTFS volume.
My Creative ZEN Style 300 player is not recognized in Ubuntu 10.10 through media players (Rhythembox, Banshee, Gnomad2...etc) . it is recognized correctly as a removable media like any flash drive ,but not as a media player though.
I've searched a the issue and found some solutions to other Creative ZEN models ,but none worked for me.

connecting my ipod touch (Version 1.1.5). When I plug the ipod in, ubuntu doesnt recognize it at all, not even as a camera. It will however charge it up. Ive tried Hipo and Amarok but neither of them do anything as well. I am running Ubuntu 9.10.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi have spent the last three-ish days converting a file to avi (took so long because of audio problems) and have it perfect. i need to copy it to another computer that has micro$oft windows on it, and when i access the flash drive it doesnt recognize the file as video. and i cant copy to the local hdd. im probably missing something obvious, but i searched and got nothing. i used avidemux (2.5 i think) to convert it. it plays alright on ubuntu, and it is ok on the flash drive, but when windows sees it, it isnt recognized as video.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just bought a USB gigaware headset, and I have been trying to get them to work on my laptop, which has Ubuntu 9.10.
Unfortunately, they do not appear to be recognized almost anywhere, the only place where I have been able to find a reference to them was by using dmesg.
Previously I could plug my EOS 20D into the USB and f-spot would pop up and let me import photos. This was on 9.10. The camera is fine, it still does exactly what it did on the machine next to me which is still running 9 (or 8, I forget).

I have a problem with the system detecting my Sony Walkman NWZ-S639F. When I plug the device, the player's screen says 'Connecting', however nothing shows up on the laptop screen. When I was running Linux Mint 10, the player connected with no problem, and since Mint 10 is basically Ubuntu 10.10 with extra software, I think that I miss certain software packages.

I have a numbe of music files in the ogg format, and they work fine on my Sansa Fuze.However, I recently used soundconverter to convert some flacs to ogg. These files are not showing up in the Sansa's menu once they are copied over.One thing I notice is that the file properties display as Type 'Ogg Multimedia File' for the ones that work, whereas the ones from Soundconverter display the Type 'Ogg Audio'
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm currently in the process of seeing if I can finally make the switch to linux from windows. So far everything is good, except for my MP3 Player. I use a Samsung Intensity with a 16gb microsdhc card, connected to my computer through a USB. The problem is that Ubuntu doesn't recognize it. Now rhythmbox will recognize it if I have it set to MTP mode, but you ubuntu itself never mounts it. I need it to mount so I can drag and drop files into specific folders on the card. Otherwise I doubt rhythmbox will know where to put the files. The addition of another person to the linux family depends on it. Since I only want to use windows for certain games and not any more than that.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an MSI S420 with a realtek alc883 onboard. I upgraded from ubutu 8.04 to 10.4 recently, The sound worked in 8.04 although the mic did't work and the same thing in 8.10 (i went through all upgrades) it stopped working at all in 9.04 onwards.
If i did Lspci -v it did say the name of my card, ( I unmuted all in alsamixer and got the codecs but even a test soud won't work) I also dowloaded a driver from Realtek itself, that didn't work.
Then I edited alsabace.conf some more. I tried every one that could possily be it at [URL] including all that said MSI.
I then tried Lordraidens comprehensive sound guide from step 1 to step 5, I used the module-assistant and istalled a driver that was called "hda-realtek-codec" or so. It was the only appropriate one on the list.

I do not manage to get my my ipod touch 4g recognized by ubuntu 10.04. First time I tried, it was recognized as a camera and not as a media player. I tried to install a few other packages. Now it is not recognized at all....
I followed guidelines on the forum and installed libimobiledevice, ifuse, usbmuxd and libplist. Note I unlock my ipod before connecting it.

I see a lot of post related to new ipod touch 4g installation but I think I screwed up somewhere in my configuration since the ipod is not recognized at all.
I just installed the ubuntu 10.10 on my ideapad z460 everything is working fine except headphone. I can here sound in built in speakers but not in headphone. Also I observed that there is no headphone icon in sound preferences. I installed the latest alsa drivers.

I recently rebooted my computer, switching from Vista to Ubuntu 10.10, 32 bit. I've had troubles with my webcam ever since. I've tried every single suggestion from the Ubuntu Forums and nothing works, and I am now quite desperate..
I'm installed Cheese but nothing else than a green dotted screen appears, I've also tried gucview which tells me that my webcam is recognized under the name of USB 2.0 Camera.
When I enter lsusb in the terminal, here is what appears:

The webcam doesn't work with any program, but since it does partially work with Cheese, I would think that I either have to install an additional driver or that my camera is not compatible with Ubuntu, which would really suck.
The closest similar case I've found on the net was this one : [URL] . Apparently it's about a Bug 16575 but the problem doesn't seem to have been resolved either.
I've made some progress (at first, the ipod wasn't seen by the system at all). I've removed what appeared to be conflicting usb mounting packages and that has allowed the ipod to be recognized by the computer (i.e. the name of the ipod show up on the desktop with an ipod icon and i can manipulate files with nautilus. however, before i upgraded to lucid, rhythmbox would start automatically and I was able to manage the music through rhythmbox. now, since the upgrade, rhythmbox does not detect the presence of the ipod.

I selected some .mkv files, created menus and the program created .iso files which I burned using the Burn Image selection in Brasero 2.30.2. The resultant DVD worked perfectly in my PC under Ubuntu as well as Windows XP. However, when I pop the disc in my standalone DVD player connected to my TV, the player gives a "NO DISC" error - no joy.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to play audio CDs in the CD/DVD drive on my machine but I can't get ANY CD Player software to recognize the drive. However, data CDs are read just fine. If I want to play a CD, I have to use the burner drive which is readily seen by all the audio CD software (KsCD, Kaffeine, etc.). I've added myself to the audio, video and cdrom groups but to no avail (I kinda knew it was fruitless to begin with but tried it anyway). I'm running 11.2, 64-bit mode and aside from this minor (but maddening) glitch, I've been very impressed with the distro. I don't want to use the burner for spinnin' platters.
