Ubuntu Multimedia :: Video Isn't Recognized When Copied

Feb 28, 2010

i have spent the last three-ish days converting a file to avi (took so long because of audio problems) and have it perfect. i need to copy it to another computer that has micro$oft windows on it, and when i access the flash drive it doesnt recognize the file as video. and i cant copy to the local hdd. im probably missing something obvious, but i searched and got nothing. i used avidemux (2.5 i think) to convert it. it plays alright on ubuntu, and it is ok on the flash drive, but when windows sees it, it isnt recognized as video.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Playing Video/movies On DVD - Disc Is Not Being Recognized And Mounted ?

Aug 13, 2010

I have recently installed Lucid on an Acer Aspire 5570Z laptop. It has an Optiarc DVD RW AD-7530A DVD-RAM writer. I am having trouble in playing video/movies on DVD.

When I am inserting a movie DVD, the drive is working (i.e. is busy) continuously but the disc is not being recognized and mounted. Disc Utility is showing "No Media Detected".

The same DVD discs are playing OK in my desktop (running Hardy) and on another laptop (running Lucid).

However, that Audio and data CDs are playing/reading OK in the same drive. Even blank DVDs are being recognized and mounted OK.

If not, any other application that can do it?

Ubuntu :: Display Configuration - Second Video Card Is Not Recognized?

May 16, 2011

First, my set-up -Intel i5 quad-core CPU 16GB RAM.Two Radeon HD5450 video cards, each with two monitors.Multi-boot - Windows7, Ubuntu 10.04.2 and Ububtu 10.04.2(not a typo, the second instance is for experiments)Both the 10.04's have the proprietary ATI video drivers.

On the first set-up, everything works beautifully. All four monitors are alive, and configured with Xinerama as a single large desktop. In the second Ubuntu 10.04 set-up, I have two problems -The second video card is not recognized -it shows up as an unrecognized card.Of the two monitors connected to it, only one is detected, with a resolution of 640x480, not the 1920x1080 the first set-up sees. When I try and switch to the virtual terminal - ctl-alt-F1, I get a blank screen. The terminal is alive and well - I can log in, and enter commands which are executed. For example, when I enter 'ls -l > dir.txt', I see a 'dir.txt' file in my home folder; nothing shows on the screen.how I got the first set up to work!I have tried copying the xorg.conf from the first (working) set-up to the second, but still no joy.The Grub GFXMODE and GFXPAYLOAD are common to both the set-ups, so that can't be the difference.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: HD Video Playback - Video And Sound Frequently Get Out Of Sync

Oct 17, 2010

When I play large HD videos in mplayer, the video and sound frequently get out of sync, and the video plays a little strangely (occasionally speeding up and occasionally slowing down).

I think it's because mplayer is only running on a single core. As I've got a quad-core processor, it seems inefficient. I've seen that there is theoretically a way to get mplayer to work with multicore setups, but it requires compiling with different options. That'd take me a little while to work through.

Ideally there would be a pre-compiled version in the software centre, or a player which has support built in (again, ideally in the software centre). Is there such a thing available?

What is the easiest way for doing that?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Totem - Video Stays On Top Of Drop Down Menus And Video Remains When Change Windows?

May 30, 2011

this happens with both VLC and Totem, when in either of those programs playing a video, if I click on one of the top menus, say View in Totem, the video stays on top of the drop down options. In order to see the options I have to hover over them with the mouse at which point they become momentarily visible. I read a post somewhere where someone had a similar problem and it was solved by reinstalling Compiz, but I've tried uninstalling it entirely, reinstalling it, etc. and none of it works. It doesn't happen with flash videos in firefox, it does happen with visualisations in Totem, and it only started happening since I upgraded to 11.04.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Video Resolution Seems To Change During Video Playback

Apr 11, 2011

I am setting up a MythTV environment to switch from Windows based MediaPortal (with a high number of disturbing bugs). Yet, I have three difficulties, which I want to discuss with you. They are:

- No audio via HDMI see [URL]
- Video resolution seems to change during video playback
- Channels cannot be found via DVB-S [URL]

As you can see, I have created three posts to keep discussions focused.

Alltogether I have the following setup:

- AMD 5050e CPU
- 8 GByte RAM
- Biostar TA890GXE
- Samsung LE40M86BD, connected via HDMI (and only HDMI)
- Mythbuntu 10.10 with proprietary drivers installed
- Technisat Skystar HD2 DVB-S card (two times)

Now, here is the problem:

Whenever I playback any video material using e.g. VLC, the screen resolution changes. This also applies when playback the video in a window and not fullscreen. The problem is that whenever the screen resolution changes, short time later the TV set blanks screen and show the TV set specific information "unsupported video mode".

How can I enforce to stay in the configured video mode?

Debian Multimedia :: Integrated Intel Video And High-def Video W/vaapi?

Jul 6, 2011

I have an integrated intel video and latest xserver-xorg-video-intel driver(using only stable repo). Now I wanna watch high-res video. From the bits of info collected from all over internet I understood that I need to:

1.aptitude install libdrm libva.

2.compile or find the .deb mplayer-vaapi and install it.

3.add -vo vaapi -va vaapi to the mplayer command line in gnome-mplayer.

My question : is that correct or did I miss something? Do I have to compile latest libdrm and libva or the ones from the squeeze repo will be good? Do I need kms enabled, i.e. install firmware-linux-nonfree?
