I guess it is the setting of the Opensuse, as i have tried different players, e.g SMPlayer, VLC adn Xine, all show blue dots on the player's screen.

The problem is that none of the video players doesn't play video, they show only black window and play audio.
I have Fedora 11 Leonidas, fully up-to-date.
I have installed rpmfusion and livna repository.
I have installed following packages:
When I try to play video with totem, it doesn't output any error, but just doesn't play video.

I tried several different files, which works perfectly in windows and ubuntu.
I installed windows binary codecs for mplayer to /usr/lib/codec/
It is the same drive that I used to install ubuntu, but kubuntu isn't working!

Does anyone know of any precompiled rpms for 11.3 (or tips for building on opensuse). I've installed Hellgasts xvba-video-amd rpms from the build service. I wasn't able to successfully build my own mplayer-vaapi from Index of /~gbeauchesne/mplayer-vaapi.

It's more easy to install and maintain some services then make suse play video. I'm going crazy when every player says to me that it doesn't contain any codecs. I heard i'ts all about licensing.. So, why doesn't Ubuntu havn't any problem to play my mp4 and other video formats just from the box?My case is regular.. No way to play mp4 in totem,banshee,xine no h264 decoder.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have very strange problems with all the good audio mp3 players in Ubuntu. Not the bad programs only the good (whcich have good skins and library and so on). Amarok for some reason skips all the music files but only mp3 if I put m3u online radio it works. It doesn't show errors at all just skips the songs. I've never had issues with mp3 files before. The movie player works liek a charm but is too cheap (no library to browse files). Banshee was great and suddenly it stopped working just like the good old Rhythmbox... They appear to be starting in background but don't show nowhere. I cannot install XMMS players too it isn't found on the apt-get server. Also my packages are fully updated.
Reinstalling the programs don't help at all! It must be some major issue with the programs not launching. It's not a single program Banshee, Rhythmbox and I think some other but don't remember the names. Movie player plays all but is too simple. I want something like Winamp with nice library please help. No need for movies just mp3. Exaile works not fine with mp3 but I preffer how Rhytmhbox shows the music library with all the songs not like in seperate folders. I could try song shuffle. But why the other programs don't start what command can show what's happening?
I dont know what ive done but all of media players play videos in color, blue. How can i fix this problem ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI must have inadvertently changed a color setting in Ubuntu. Suddenly, the color in all video that I play is distinctly blue (human skin is shades of blue and green). This happens to multiple videos in both VLC and Movie Player. It does not happen when I play the same videos on VLC in Windows. Pictures and all other graphics appear completely normal. I am still quite new to Ubuntu and I've never encountered anything like this before. I have no idea where to start
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using Ubuntu 9.10 dual booted with XP on a laptop. Whenever I try to play any video files, even just bog standard avi files, the media player just shuts down and disappears. This has happened with the movie player that comes with the OS as well as VLC. I also tried out Dragon Player and the files seem to load up and when played the timeline slider just skips across to the end in about 5 seconds but no picture is shown during this time. The codecs all appear to be installed fine even though I know that VLC doesn't require them. My video card is ATI and I know that it works fine as these files play alright when booted up into XP, Hi-Def included.

My PC - intel i3, integrated 4500 vga and 4GB RAM, Ubuntu 11.04 64bit. CPU usage is around 30-70% and disk load is low.
Typical performance tweaks like "skip loops - all" and read buffer size doesn't affect current condition. In Ubuntu 10.10 everything worked flawlessly.
PS. whether 4500 gpu acceleration should work in Ubuntu 11.04 by default? I can't set it up...
When trying to playback DVDs in VLC media player, I have to switch the video output driver to get any playback.If I leave it on "Default" (which I think is defaulting to "XVideo Extension Video Output"), I get a solid green or blue screen (which I also get with "Xvideo Extension Video Output")If I switch it to "OpenGL Video Output", I get proper DVD playback but it is kind of pixelated and ugly.If I switch it to "X11 Video Output", I get DVD playback that is very crisp and sharp, the image quality is great.unfortunately, the colors are completely messed up and the blue is completely saturated.I've played with the color settings (especially the Hue setting), but I can't get the colors to look right.

I have a roughly 3-year old PC that I put together from parts (listed below) that has been running great with various flavors of Linux as the sole operating system. It is currently running Ubuntu 10.4. A couple of months ago, it started to have intermittent problems booting. The machine will hang before it gets to the Ubuntu "boot" screen with the dots that show progress as the machine boots. If I look at the power on messages from the BIOS, it fails at different points in the process - sometimes during the memory test, sometimes during the search for IDE drives. It fails about 2 out of every 5 attempts to boot. It sometimes takes 2-3 tries at booting before it actually works. Sometimes when it does boot, the Ethernet jack doesn't work and I see errors in syslog about there not being a carrier.
There are no syslog entries when the machine does not boot.The machine is plugged into a UPS. The UPS indicates that it is running at 13% of capacity at 123V/60Hz. I'm in the US.Once the machine boots normally, it will stay up without issues for days.I've checked the 4GB of RAM (I added 2GB to the original 2GB several months ago) using the memory testing application on the System Rescue CD and no errors were found.I've replaced the motherboard battery, which seemed to help for a few weeks, but then the problem returned.I've checked the hard drive for errors using the SMART diagnostics tool in System -> Administration -> Disk Utility and buy running fsck.The interior of the case is not very dusty and all the fans appear to be working.Are there things I can do to investigate and fix this issue other than starting to replace components - starting with the motherboard and the power supply?The parts of the machine:

View 3 Replies View RelatedI got out my old Fuji Finepix s3100 and set it to web cam mode to see if anything had changed in the world of usb video drivers. Lo and behold it worked! I can watch myself on cheese web cam booth. kewl, but I wanted more. So, just recently hearing about chatroulette on the Daily Show, I click and wahla no go . After flash comes up and asks for and receives user permission to access my hardware, I click to find a random stranger, and my camera displays yellow and blue lines across its onscreen display box. I notice that movement is noticed by the camera. If I move I notice a change in background/lines. As far as I can tell, my camera is not a fault. I mean it works for local viewing. Is this a flash or possibly a chatroulette problem?

-Ubuntu 10.04 with MPlayer/Smplayer & VLC installed via the repos. -Installed the Ubuntu Restricted Extras package (everything except flash, extra fonts, & java) & w32codec packgae (medibuntu). -Computer in question is 800mhz Celeron, 256MB RAM & one of those basic Intel Integrated Graphics Chip. I'm having problems playing some video files. When trying to play these files with Smplayer, I get a blue screen but can still hear audio (default video output). After switching the video output to x11(slow), I can now see the picture but it's not playable (some video will show maybe one frame every 2 seconds, some video would play for half-a-second then just freeze). This happens mainly with large files (not 100% accurate, but in general files over 300MB).
Mplayer log gives the "Your system is too slow to play this file" & "Bad alloc:insufficient resources" messages. So I'm guessing this is not a codec problem, but a system resources problem? Is there any option, trick, tweaks, etc. I can use to play these problematic files or is it just not possible because of my system specifications? Is there a way I could tell mplayer to play these files with lower bitrates & resolution? Maybe this could reduce the resources needed to play?

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I play a video web stream full-screen, the image randomly freezes. I can still move the mouse and hear the audio, but I can't click on anything, and I can't get out of full-screen. No keyboard commands that I know work, and so I end up having to hold down the power button to kill the machine.
This didn't happen in Ubuntu, so I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware issue. And I changed the power management settings to do nothing, but it still happens. So, I don't know what the deal is. Should I try a different flash player (I have the adobe player as default)?

I'm running openSUSE 11.2 on KDE, although the problem persists on other desktops. I followed the instructions on SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE, as well. If anyone needs any other information, please let me know. It worked before, I don't know what caused it to stop working.
As well, I've tried to install the restricted formats, but even when my audio did work, it wouldn't play them. I followed the instructions specific to my version on the restricted formats guide.
After installing all the codecs etc for restricted formats as well as the ATI video card drivers all videos appear very blue. I cannot seem to find anything on here or on the net that would suggest a work around.
This only seems to be the case in VLC, others seem to be OK.
