Ubuntu Installation :: Firefox Not Loading Properly ?

Dec 10, 2010

Firefox starts to load, the window appears, but then hard drive keeps running for ever and ONLY thing that can be done is to click on Close Window, which will stop hard drive and get back to the desktop.

Suggestion posted to Delete ".mozilla/firefox" folder from my home directory worked initially, but the problem reappeared some time ago.

Other applications in Ubuntu seem to work OK.

How to correct this problem permanently - other than going to a different O.S.?

Fedora Installation :: Cannot Boot Into 64bit - Kernel Not Loading Properly

Jun 1, 2010

I got a new laptop, this is the one: [URL] and decided that I wanted to go with Fedora instead of Ubuntu with this computer. The laptop runs win 7 64 bit so I'm trying to go with Fedora 64 but it will not boot. I first installed Fedora 12 64 bit from the DVD install and it would go to grub fine but when I boot the fedora os It just stops in the middle of the boot script. When it stops, the last 4 lines are:

kernel_init=0x1fd/0x257
child_rip+0xa/0x20
? kernel_init+0x0/0x257
? child_rip+0x0/x20

I hadn't messed with it for a few weeks and yesterday I saw that 13 was out, so I downloaded and burnt the Fedora 13 64 bit CD. I popped it in, booted the computer and it did the same crap. It didn't stop at the same line but it was around a line with:
? kernel_init
So I guess the kernel isn't loading properly or something. Do ya'll think I would be better off using the 32 bit?

I'm trying to run 9.10 from my flash drive, but it won't load properly. I end up with repeating messages of "end_request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0", and "Buffer I/O error on device fd0, logical block 0" for a bit, then it goes away, and then repeats "This is normally a bug some applications using the D-Bus library. process normally arguments to dbus_pending_call_set_notify() were incorrect, assertion "pending != NULL" failed in file dbus-pending call .c line 596." really fast, and keeps on repeating until I manually shut my laptop off.

Ubuntu :: Gnome - Desktop Not Loading Properly

Jun 8, 2010

I recently restarted my computer after trying to install an update that was available for ubuntu (linux kernel image update i believe) which failed.

After restarting the computer, the ubuntu splash screen appeared as usual, and now my desktop is gone (see attached image).

I also got a gnome error message (attached) which i've never seen before, but i'm guessing it's related to my absent desktop.

How to restore my desktop?

Ubuntu Networking :: HTTPS Sites Like FB And Hotmail Not Loading Properly ?

Jun 22, 2011

I am using Lenovo G550 laptop wid Intel Dual Core 2GHz, 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD, etc. Earlier I had 2 partitions 187GB (Windows 7) and other 33GB of Lenovo drivers. I split 187GB to 143GB (Windows 7) while remaining 44GB for Ubuntu 10.10!

Everything's been working fine except for internet. I am unable to load many https sites like fb, hotmail, etc. Gmail is working absolutely fine.

I did some research on this forum and disabled ipv6! I also checked for firewall and it was disabled. Then I also configured Open DNS and checked if it is working fine. But nothing has helped.

When I connect to these sites without 's' in https (i.e. only http) these sites load fast. I enter my username n password and then I am redirected to a compulsory https site which then takes me to a page like this (shown in thumbnails)! I have tried Chrome n Firefox 3.6 (which have SSL and TLS checked in preferences)! All these sites are working fine on Windows 7. But I don't want to use Windows 7 every now and then because it has become too slow and boring! Please help me with this.

I connect to internet using DSL wired (BSNL Broadband 256Kbps)

Fedora X86/64bit :: GNOME Panels Not Loading Properly Upon Log-in

Dec 20, 2010

I am new to this forum, so apologies if this question has been asked before or is placed in the wrong section. Hey there, I am running Fedora 14 on a 64-bit system (laptop). Upon logging in, (it doesn't seem to make a difference if it is an initial log-in or returning from logging out), the top and bottom GNOME panels occasionally 'miss' loading a few things, or loads them improperly. As an example, the Notification Area may be missing, and I will have to re-add it manually to the blank spot where it should have loaded. I have also had issues with the Workspace Switcher loading improperly and the System Monitor not loading at all.To note, this does not happen every time, but it occurs often enough to become an inconvenience. More often than not I will have to log out and back in again to fix an improperly loaded section of the panel(s).

Red Hat :: Icons Not Displaying Properly And .pngs Not Loading - Centos 5.5?

Nov 29, 2010

I am running Centos 5.5 X86_64 and recently after updating my server, I am having problem loading gnome. When the server boots, and begins to bring up the login screen theme, I get an error that states "Could not recognize the image file format for /usr/share/gdm/themes/TreeFlower/background.png" I am able to login after clicking ok to this message, and using the "simplistic" login manager. But when the users desktop loads, there are several errors pertaining to "unsupported image format" and none of the icons are displaying correctly. They are just the default "curvy page" icon for an unassociated file type. Some of the icons do not even show up at all.

Another thing I noticed wierd is that when I try to view a png, nothing happens. When I try to open one using gimp, I get an "unsupported file type" error. When I tried to click on the "add/remove software" button I get prompted for root pass, but nothing happens. So, I tried launching pirut from CLI, and I received the following error:

Quote:

Ubuntu :: Firefox Not Working Properly

Jan 11, 2010

The navigation buttons in firefox are not working and I can not access File, Edit, View, and History pull down menus. This just started today i think. I have 3.5.pre8 and 3.7 installed. both are affected.

Edit: Actually it is a problem with all apps when window is maximized. I cannot access the first 3 or 4 pull down menus or buttons on the tool bar unless the window is not maximized. This happens with konqueror, firefox and Banshee. Have not tested other apps yet.

Edit2: Upper left corner of desktop is also affected. The icons in this part of the screen are not accessible. seems that anything in that region of the screen is dead. just switched from compiz window manager to metacity and there is a black square in the upper left corner of my screen about 2.5"x 2.5".

Is there something else I should try? Sudo killall firefox, says no processes, but I dont think this would be necessary after a restart even. What else can I do? Should I uninstall, then re-install, or is this unnecessary?

Ubuntu :: Flash Will Not Install On Firefox Properly?

May 17, 2010

OS: Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit I tried to watch a video on Firefox through hulu.com and kept getting unresponsive script error upon the website showing up. On other occasions some websites would open up very slowly. So I went ahead and started looking up the problem on google, and found two areas where this may occur:

1.Google search toolbar or add-on in firefox which I cannot find how in the world to disable since it seems to come inside the firefox package (I tried edit-preferences-addon- its not listed). 2.Adobe Flash Player: I disabled it and the websites are no longer slow, but now I cannot watch the video on hulu.com which is the main reason why I opened firefox. So I went ahead and installed Adobe Flash again, but it doesn't seem to want to work. Gnash and the other program (I forgot the name) install properly on Firefox but Adobe Flash Player keeps giving me errors. This is one of them when I tried downloading and installing it from terminal:

Code:
Flash Plugin installed. nspluginwrapper: no appropriate viewer found for /usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so dpkg: error processing flashplugin-installer (--configure): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of flashplugin-nonfree: flashplugin-nonfree depends on flashplugin-installer; however:

[Code]...

Honestly I wish all the websites would make their flash videos more compatible with other program, but for time being the Flash Monopoly still continues. Anyways, any solution or possible work-around?

By the way, as some of you may know Adobe Flash player doesn't support Google chrome for Linux (chromium). I would really hate to have to switch to my Vista Hard Drive just to see a video on Firefox.

Ubuntu :: Firefox Doesn't Render Pages Properly

Feb 12, 2011

It seems that I have been running Firefox unbeknownst to me with a broken configuration. It seems that if I enable the Quote: Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above in Edit->Preferences->Content->Fonts&Colors->Advanced, pages will no longer be render properly -- they are mostly blank. When running on the command line, I notice that I get errors from Pango (whatever that is) and think there may be a connection.

I tried doing sudo aptitude reinstall libpango-perl libpango1.0-0 libpango1.0-common libpangomm-1.4-1 but it didn't fix the problems. (I haven't yet tried uninstalling pango since it looks like it removes some crucial components.)I also tried sudo dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig and it didn't help.I'm guessing that the fonts cannot be scaled. This otherwise wouldn't be an issue, but it seems that some Firefox addons forcibly ignore the configured fonts and those pop-up windows are mostly blank/empty and therefore useless.

General :: Cannot Get Moonlight To Run Properly On Ubuntu 9.10 Firefox / Solve It?

Ubuntu 9.10 - Firefox 3.5.5 - Dell Latitude D600 Lap top.

Can anyone view any of the movie content on this page?

When I try to view one it starts and then just turns white. Then Firefox crashes. I have no clue what is going on with it.

Oddly I have no problem viewing the Silverlight content on this page:
http://www.blacksburg.gov/Index.aspx?page=513

Or many other Silverlight pages. I've seen this happen not only on the above page but other Silverlight content.

So anyone experience the same thing? I'm guessing there is some code on the web page that triggers a bug or something.

Fedora :: Firefox Not Working Properly

Apr 3, 2010

I'm running fedora 12 64-bit with XFCE desktop. Updated to firefox 3.5.9 yesterday and that hasn't solved my issue... Just recently it is SO slow. I would even say its on ie standards I sometimes sit with pages "loading" only to find that the url soon changes to "search history and bookmarks" and the bottom left corner message says "stopped" - its most unreliable. at first i thought it was my sometimes dodgy internet connection but i have done several speed tests and after waiting ages for the page to load, the speed test comes up with about 2Mbps. This speed is not translated to the speed firefox is loading pages - several times i've had to stop all tabs loading and then reload them just because firefox seems to have forgotten its meant to be looking on the internet and "thinks" putting a message "loading" in the tab will do

Slackware :: Firefox Refuses To End Properly

Mar 22, 2011

Running FF 3.6.13 on Slack 13.1 (32-bit). Every time that I use FF when I close it the processes that are spawned when it starts never end. I have to manually go and kill them. It is pretty annoying more than an inconvenience since I don't normally use FF. Unfortunately I have to use it, every now and then, for some things and if I need to restart it I have to open a terminal and kill the processes.

I've tried re-installing on top of the version that I have there, and actually uninstalling and installing it again (of course making sure that all of the directories are gone), I've also tried renaming my ~/.mozilla directory (in case there is a problem with the profile).

I updated last night even though I was already using firefox 3.6. I had a problem with flash last time I updated. Ubuntu :: Firefox 3.6.3 - Java Plugin Not Loading

Apr 15, 2010

My Java plugin is not loading on Firefox. I need it to load, but FF doesn't even recognize Java is installed. It works on Google Chrome (which would be nice... except the plugin is buggy there)

Here's the background
* I'm running Firefox 3.6.3, through the repository on
Code: [URL]
* My process list includes:
Code:
23679 ? 00:00:00 firefox
23688 ? 00:07:31 firefox-bin
* I run NoScript, but I've had it work before w/NoScript, and everything is currently allowed. I'm fairly sure it has rather to do with FF 3.6.3.
* My about.config settings:

Code:
java.default_java_location_others;/usr/java
java.default_java_location_solaris;/usr/j2se
java.global_java_version_file;/etc/.java/versions
java.java_plugin_library_name;javaplugin_oji
