I was unable to access my Facebook account because a few days ago firefox stopped loading the page. I am using firefox 3.5.7 Ubuntu 9.10 with the latest (2.6.31-17) kernel. I have the Adblock Plus extention, but it has no effect on the issue (I tried to disable it).

I'm a bit confused but not surprised by this problem I'm having. I liked the look of the FoxTab addon for Firefox (Swiftfox actually but I don't think it should make any difference) mostly for homepage thing it has which is similar to the Chrome/Safari opening page.
I followed the FoxTab instructions for using this page when I open a new tab and that works fine, and then (as instructed) changed my homepage to 'about:blank' but this only works when I click the homepage button.When I open a new Swiftfox session it doesn't come up with anything (just a blank page -

View 1 Replies View RelatedI started using 11.04 awhile ago, and switched from Unity to Classic because I didn't like switching from the mouse to the keyboard that frequently to open applications. I noticed that Firefox had stopped using the setting of opening my homepage when I started Firefox and have been trying to figure out why. It turns out yesterday I think I figured it out. There is an add-on for Unity Menus installed, once I disabled that the behavior returned to normal. Hopefully, someone else here will find that useful.

12.2 is up to date and am running the Firefox from Slackbuilds. There was an update to FF a few months ago. Since then FF "hangs" when I close it out. It does seem to shut down better from the home page instead of whatever site I happen to be on at the time of shutting down. I do have a few addons to FF but they were there before the update with no issues. The addons are Gmarks [disabled], Rankchecker, Scribefire, SEO for FF [disabled], SEO Toolbar, Weatherbug and Web Developer. I haven't done any "fixes" so I'm fairly certain I didn't create my own problem.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOn my wife's computer, she is having a problem that I can't duplicate on my own or figure out on hers. When she is logged into facebook, which she uses a fair amount to stay in contact with friends and family, after a certain amount of activity, clicking on links, etc. her screen develops an intermittent black band on the left hand side of the page which makes the page unreadable. This only happens in facebook and only with firefox; no problems so far in Opera or on other web sites. This happened in a previous installation and I thought a clean install would fix it, but I transferred her home directory and that brought the problem with it.

If I click it from my launcher it blinks 6 or 7 times then, does nothing.I have had this problem before, but a simple log-off log-on fixed it. I have even tried to restart and nothing changed. Is there something else I should try? Sudo killall firefox, says no processes, but I dont think this would be necessary after a restart even. What else can I do? Should I uninstall, then re-install, or is this unnecessary?

When I go to any other page (ex. cnn.com, gmail, etc) the page will load graphically, but then continue to load forever. At this point I cannot click on anything in firefox including the drop-down menus.I must force quit at this point.
I updated last night even though I was already using firefox 3.6. I had a problem with flash last time I updated. I reinstalled firefox and went back to firefox 3.5 without any success.This makes me think that the problem is something other than firefox.I am on a Toshiba Satellite L505-S5965 running ubuntu 9.10. I was using my old computer with ubuntu on it a few minutes ago, and when I loaded up firefox... All of a sudden the pac-man music started playing. There wasn't anything else open that could have caused that, and not even any other tabs up... It sounds like something a virus might do, but Linux is extremely resistant to that sort of thing.. Firefox works fine on my windows rig, so what the heck is going on?EDIT: I turned off javascript, and the noises stopped. But what javascript on firefox could be doing that, and why is it only on my linux?

Why do I keep getting this error when I try to search something on google. It happens when my query has around five or more words. If a search for just one or two words I don't get the error. Two very simmilar laptops connected to the same WiFi router loading the same web pages. Firefox on Windows does that for 3 secons, while Firefox on Ubuntu needs 1-3 minutes to load the same page. What could be the reason for this? Any idea how to fix it? The laptop with Ubuntu runs 10.04 LTS (lucid), Firefox is 3.6.10 and on any other WiFi network it loads the web pages really faster but why is much slower than Windows now?When testing the speed on URL...Ubuntu loads times faster than Windows. View 4 Replies View RelatedThe basics: Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid x64 with Firefox 3.6.11 on a Thinkpad T61p 2gb ram/500gb HD. When I try to access my email via Squirrelmail, Firefox hangs on loading. If I stop the page from loading, wait a few minutes, then try again, I have a 50:50 chance of it loading this time.
I've run the update to make sure I have the most recent versions of software, but it still hangs. I've tried a few cursory searches, but find nothing referencing Lucid or that is otherwise current.
I'm having trouble with Firefox hanging. It takes at least two attempts to launch, having to force the initial blank page to quit. Often it will freeze my desktop when loading new pages, and I have to force quit. I've upgraded to 3.6.17 but no difference. The Mozilla help page suggests disabling add-ons to find the problem, but to no avail. Chrome works OK but I'd rather use Firefox.

I am developing an extension for firefox that enables users to chat with any others who happen to be browsing the same website at the same time. The xul file adds a tool bar with a button "Enable Chat" in the browser toolbox. when a user clicks the Enable chat button, the server initiates the chat. I'm Dual-booting XP with Ubuntu Karmic Koala, heres my other specs:
CPU: Intel Pentium D 3.0Ghz family(15) model(4) stepping(4)
GFX: Geforce 7800 GT (had problems with GFX when I first installed Ubuntu, I had to update my drivers)
2 GB RAM
This is a nearly fresh install of Karmic Koala, I've only installed whatever updates I needed, graphics card drivers, KPlayer, and Google Chrome. Because I prefer Chrome over Firefox I immediately went to download Chrome, and Firefox would get to the Chrome page and then crash. I then got the Chrome install file from another computer and installed it. Chrome will not even launch, so I go to search the problem in Firefox and it crashes on ANY link I click in Google Search. I also tried to directly type websites into the URL box: it loads the pages title (Ex. "Yahoo! Mail"), and crashes before displaying the page at all.
This is a very odd problem to me as I used the same disc to install dual-boot with Win7 and Ubuntu on my laptop which works perfectly, and now this happens to my desktop.
I have been investigating some security precautions over the past several months. I use Ubuntu now instead of windows and FIrefox browser also. I have installed BetterPrivacy, WOT, NoSCript and a few other add ons. I have SELinux, ClamAV, AIDE, and chkrootkit installed for Ubuntu.
When we browse certain web sites, we get an error about the server being reset. However, when I put the Ubuntu install cd in and browse with Firefox, obviously with no add ons or settings changed, we can browse to the site with no problems. We are trying to be secure on the internet and I don't want to lower or get rid of any of the settings / add ons we added. What would cause servers to reset when using Firefox / Ubuntu with browser add ons / OS addons?
With the last several updates to Firefox, loading pages from several different sites slows down to (slower than) a crawl - taking sometimes minutes. Most of the time, this occurs loading ads.
I don't remember what release this started with, but I didn't have problems before, and I don't have any problems loading the same web pages on IE8 (running on XP). This is the same on F12 and F11.
I have tried changing some of the securty choices, even tried blocking certain sites, but no luck.
Also, several times after a download, firefox freezes, although the rest of the desktop is okay.
On my computer, I'm using 11.3, KDE 4.4.4 and Firefox 3.6.8. Firefox is so s...l...o...w..... It's slow loading and it's slow browsing. Konqueror takes 1, maybe 2 seconds to load, and another second to load the home page. Firefox takes a good 30 seconds to load. The only message I get when loading from a terminal is about not using a shared database. I don't hear the disk churning like it would with a fragmented disk.
I can't believe everyone is having this response, the hue and cry would be enormous! Anything to try? Should I try loading another browser? I tried Opera on 11.2 and didn't really like it, had problems with a lot of content. What about Sea Monkey (Gad, I HATE words with monkey in them!) Konqueror won't show a lot of videos and I have problems using the back and forward buttons. I'll wait for fixes but in the meantime.
I have posted the following below on the Ubuntu Forums but have not got a satisfactory answer yet. My problem is as follows:I have installed Xubuntu on my machine to test a setup I want to to for my in-laws. Everything went well until I realised I have a problem loading some pages on Firefox.
There is no error message but they are just stuck on loading and finally timing out. I have then downloaded Opera and I am showing the same problem. A bit of research showed it could be a IPV6 issue. I therefore disabled ipv6 in about:config and also /etc/modprobe.d/aliases - 'alias net-pf-10 ipv6' to alias 'net-pf-10 off ipv6'. No change - still can't get those pages loaded.
