After increasing the volume on banshee about the half of it the sound goes off. I have to decrease the volume in order to make it work

I have an Echo Mia soundcard that I had working in Ubuntu 9.04 fine but just upgraded today to 10.04. I got the card working fine with the Medibuntu respository Alsa Firmware. However, every time I boot up the volume is insanely loud (I use studio monitors with a set volume). As soon as I click to change the volume it suddenly kicks in down to the correctly set volume but I need it to not boot at max. I remember I had to do something in 9.04 to resolve this and had the Echo Mixer in the panel as a launcher but I can't remember what I did to get it to initialize the volume correctly. I've tried everything I could think of to no avail.
Anyone have any ideas? Even if I could just use a script to set the volume to initialize to a specific level I'd be fine with raising it after.
I have a HP laptop model HP G72 Notebook PC, Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU M 350 @2.27GHz & the Sound devices are Intel(R) Display Audio & Realtek High Definition Audio.
This machine came loaded with Windows7 & I have successfully dual booted it with Ubuntu Lucid 10.04.3.
The problem I am having is that I cannot get the sound to work at all in Ubuntu. No opening sounds or anything else that I have tried. No Web sounds, no CD sounds... All sounds work fine on the Windows side, but nothing I have tried so far seem to work with Ubuntu & I have tried many options from many threads.
Using Openshot, flowblade, or Kdenlive, when video gets rendered into mp4, it comes out at increased speed, both audio and video (seems like double speed but could be a different ratio)
When I play the exported mp4 with VLC for example, it shows the proper video length, not shortened. The video plays at high speed and for the second half of the video it just shows the last frame of the video until it runs out of time.
I have used Openshot extensively and have never had this problem, so I installed all the other video editors I could, and the problem persists (pitivi has a dependency problem so I haven't been able to use it).
I have tried several video players as well, all doing the same (VLC and Smplayer)
I am running Debian stable jessie, 64 bit, xfce

when i change my volume via the buttons on my keyboard, my left click on my mouse just stops working, then i have to restart my computer to get it to work again. anyone now a fix or a workaround for this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got my xubuntu 10.10 install just about perfect on a little acer aspire d250, apart from a small sound useability issue: In the interests of simplicity and resource usage I removed pulseaudio. After a bit of fiddling I got it so that my USB soundcard (ProDac) is recognized and automatically set as the default soundcard when plugged in. Any sound applications automatically use the USB sound if it present, no need to around with pulse. The only problem is that my netbook's volume control keys still only control the master volume of the inbuilt soundcard, and have no effect on the usb sound. Does anyone know of a way to change which sound device these keys actually effect? I'd like to write a little script so that when the usb device is detected the keys are remapped.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Kubuntu 10.10 32 bit on an old DFI KT600AL motherboard based system using the onboard VIA 3058 AC97 audio (because it supports front panel audio connections and none of the add-in PCI soundcards I have do). I have an old Gateway/STB TVPCI TV tuner card (mainly wanted the FM radio part to work) hooked up to the cd audio connector on the motherboard because the digital audio over the pci bus apparently isn't supported for this card (neither is the onboard analog mixer on the tv tuner card, I had to hack a CD-ROM audio cable and solder it to the audio outputs of the tv tuner module on the TV tuner card). When I use the master channel as the master channel (selected in Kmix) then as one would expect it affects the output volume of all other audio playing on the system except that which is being handled by the PCM channel. On Windows the PCM channel was also affected by the "Volume Control" slider such that ALL volume levels were reduced when moving the slider. I'm hoping someone can help me figure out how to make it work like this on Kubuntu.
First off I should warn you that I (like many users of older hardware that is not properly supported under PulseAudio) have uninstalled PulseAudio (because it's garbage) and am using Alsa to manage my audio hardware. I would think that there would be some way to do this using the 'amixer' application to add the PCM channel as a component of the 'Master' channel so that when the volume is turned down using the 'Master' channel control it will affect the PCM channel too (at least the output to the speaker jack, not necessarily the capture or mix volume though), but I'm not really any good at doing things from a terminal window and the options for the amixer command kind of confused me.
I used Ubuntu 10.10 (64 bit) on IMac i7. As far as, I remember, after installing Pulse-Audio Equalizer, for each restart of the system, after login screen, system sets volume to maximum value. What can I do?

1. Problem: I cannot regulate the volume of the phones (output) anymore with gnome-volume-control. By default the volume is set to 100% which is way too loud. When I set it under 100% there is no sound at all. Values over 100% work.
2. Problem: The X server is freezing iregulary when I connect the headset and disconnect it, Magic SysRq works. I checked Xorg.0.log and found out that it recognizes the usb headset as keyboard:

I am struggling with a problem with the volume control... when i try to adjust the volume with the sliding bar i can not do it. If i put the scrollbar to the 0 position, it is muted. when i move it to anywhere else, i get the full volume. From other programs like vlc, i can adjust the volume with no problem.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy volume control seems to have only three settings: TOO LOUD, VERY QUIET, OFF. If I adjust the Master volume slider from the Panel, only about the right 1/8th has any effect and if I slide it past about the 95% mark, I get no sound at all. At the far-right end of the volume control, I get total volume. It's basically like the slider only has any impact in the top 5% of it's space. Below 95% of the slide, there is zero volume.
It's so drastic, that one tap down of the volume button on my keyboard kills the sound (because it nudges the slider past that 95% mark). This happens in the Audio settings, etc., system-wide. If I adjust the volume for an individual app from within the app (MPlayer, for example) it behaves exactly as expected (that is, app volume works smoothly, it's just master volume that has this issue). I have run through most of the "obvious" things-- I'm wondering if I broke something by installing the extra KDE packages to get Amarok to work.
I'm running squeeze (last updated today), and everything has been working great. There is only thing that would simplify my life minutely..Anybody know how can I have the volume buttons on my laptop change the "pcm" channel volume rather than "master"? If they could control pcm, then I could adjust the volume coming out of my headphones or my computer speaker (both controlled by pcm, but not master...seems strange to me) with just one click.I tried to find this info online, but all results seem to refer to an older version. The simple "click here, set this" solution no longer is possible.

So if I turn the volume all the way down with the physical buttons, the volume applet may still indicate 75%.I did not have this problem in Debian Lenny. Pressing the volume buttons used to show a volume bar on the screen, as did pressing the mute button.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've been using opensuse for about a week.(although I'm not completely a linux noob) I've been slowly moving more of the stuff I do on windows over to suse. I thought my sound was working fine until I decided to get mp3s running on amarok. I followed a bunch of guides which didn't work. While I was messing around with stuff I noticed a startup noise. I just assumed it didn't have a startup noise. At some point I broke all of my sound except running wine, so I reinstalled.
Now that I've noticed, none of my notification sounds work. Stuff like skype, firefox, and wine still give me sounds.
(If anyone could point me in the direction of a good place to get mp3s working on amarok would be nice as well.)
So I don't use gnome, KDE, or XFCE, but I'm running Xubuntu. I'm constantly playing music via nvlc. While that music's still playing, I'd like to be able to hear a sound I run from the command line via

I've tried on and off over the years messing with pulse, esd, etc. output options for vlc, but never figured out exactly how to do this. In Windows, having a batchfile play a .wav at the same time as an mp3 player is playing music "just works" I know there must be a "just works" solution for Linux.
I'm currently using Ubuntu 9.10 and since I've installed it, I don't have any sounds at all. Sounds work fine on windows. My version of alsa is 1.0.21. I made sure that I've got nothing muted in alsa mixer and it seems that ubuntu detects my sound card.

When ever I play any sound, It 'pops' at the beginning. These pops could be split seconds of no sound, actual popping sounds, or clicking. I'm thinking its Pulse Audio.

The sound is not muted, and I've tried cycling through various Profile options in the hardware tab. when I play an MP4 movie everything is great except all I hear is the background sounds in the movie..and non of the foreground (ie the actors speaking)...I have uninstalled pulse audio in the past and use alsamixer for any sound configs.

Hi, I have a Creative HS-1200 headset. When I am listening to sound through it, and something makes a motion on screen(compiz, movie...really anything) then the sound is distorted. Like it takes a nanosecond pauses to redraw. This does not happen with my normal soundcard. Can anyone tell me how can I fix this?

My ssytem is a Ubuntu Maverick install with an XFCE desktop so there may be more than one place I need to disable this.
I've been playing around with my settings for ages now but I cant get GTK-recordmydesktop to record anything other than my mic. Is it the midi sequencer? or midi driver?Regardless, I'm unhappy with the tones ubuntu produces for its drum midis. Does any one know how to change which tones it uses? I use lilypond to write percussion music and it can be easily translated into a midi file. I like to do this so that I can hear how the music sounds in real life and many mistakes.Unfortunately the toms are painfully low and hard to distinguish.
