View 4 Repliesi have been running a happy mythbuntu 10.04 setup for awhile now. the other day i went to watch and video and the sound was all messed up. it sort of sounds like the way the borg talk.
i have uploaded a video to videos: [url]
i upgrade my asla to 1.0.23 using the upgrade scripts.
output of aplay:
code:
I am using the Creative X-Fi Surround sound card and a Samsung 5.1 Home Theater system. When I play back MP3s, or system sounds are played, the beginning of the audio is cut off. The nature of the cut-off is that audio fades in instead of just starting. It's only the fraction of a second, but whenever sound is played after a silence (i.e. also in songs that have short silent breaks, like Roxette's "The Look"), the beginning of the audio quickly fades in. So in "The Look", instead of playing
Na na na na na, na na na na na, na na na na na na she's got the look
It plays:
[%fade in]a na na na na, na na na na na, na na na na na na she's got the look
Any ideas what is causing this? I already turned off the suspend option for Pulse audio, but it happens whether I use Pulse or ALSA for output.
I have the 11.04 installed (see hardware below) and am getting this ticking sound from the moment that Kubuntu boots and you hear the booting sound and until I shut down and it plays the shutdown sound. It doesn't matter whether I watch online audio/video or play my music library. I still hear it. Been trying to find a solution for it for a couple of weeks, but all I've found was other people with same problem but in different releases and with different sound cards. Some describe it as clicking, echo and so forth. The interesting thing is that if I stop the song while it is playing and then restart it again then sometimes the ticking will go away.
The second problem is, if something is playing and something else happens like an alert will pop up from the OS, or I open a menu of the player. Then the song will simply freeze in that spot, like a damaged CD and will repeat the last noise heard indefinitely.
The third problem happens mostly online, but I thought I'd post it here just in case all of these are related. Anyway, if I play a You tube video and then click on another one. Then the second one will not have a sound. I have to reload that page and then the sound comes in.
I have a HP laptop model HP G72 Notebook PC, Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU M 350 @2.27GHz & the Sound devices are Intel(R) Display Audio & Realtek High Definition Audio.
This machine came loaded with Windows7 & I have successfully dual booted it with Ubuntu Lucid 10.04.3.
The problem I am having is that I cannot get the sound to work at all in Ubuntu. No opening sounds or anything else that I have tried. No Web sounds, no CD sounds... All sounds work fine on the Windows side, but nothing I have tried so far seem to work with Ubuntu & I have tried many options from many threads.
The audio of my laptop works well, but the audio is muted on system startup. So, I have to turn it on manualy. I listen much to music, so it's very fustrating.
How can I turn it on by default?
I cannot get my audio to work except for system sounds. No music or video sound?
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Before karmic while I was using Jaunty, I used to do it all the time, play my favorite sounds wherever I was them, startup, error, login, logout, etc etc... I found it in System>Preferences>Sound...
But when I do the same in Karmic, the opening dialogue box doesn't give me an option to change every sound specifically, instead, although it gives me option to choose a sound theme of my own. But for that I must first compile a theme and then install it / place it in sound themes directory etc etc.
How would I change sounds for particular events without having to compile a whole new theme (customizing the current Ubuntu sound theme)...
how do I create sound themes for Ubuntu and them install them in my Ubuntu?
I've been using opensuse for about a week.(although I'm not completely a linux noob) I've been slowly moving more of the stuff I do on windows over to suse. I thought my sound was working fine until I decided to get mp3s running on amarok. I followed a bunch of guides which didn't work. While I was messing around with stuff I noticed a startup noise. I just assumed it didn't have a startup noise. At some point I broke all of my sound except running wine, so I reinstalled.
Now that I've noticed, none of my notification sounds work. Stuff like skype, firefox, and wine still give me sounds.
(If anyone could point me in the direction of a good place to get mp3s working on amarok would be nice as well.)
So I don't use gnome, KDE, or XFCE, but I'm running Xubuntu. I'm constantly playing music via nvlc. While that music's still playing, I'd like to be able to hear a sound I run from the command line via
Code:
cvlc beep.mp3
I've tried on and off over the years messing with pulse, esd, etc. output options for vlc, but never figured out exactly how to do this. In Windows, having a batchfile play a .wav at the same time as an mp3 player is playing music "just works" I know there must be a "just works" solution for Linux.
I'm currently using Ubuntu 9.10 and since I've installed it, I don't have any sounds at all. Sounds work fine on windows. My version of alsa is 1.0.21. I made sure that I've got nothing muted in alsa mixer and it seems that ubuntu detects my sound card.
Card is HDA ATI SB
Chip: IDT 92HD75B2X5
When ever I play any sound, It 'pops' at the beginning. These pops could be split seconds of no sound, actual popping sounds, or clicking. I'm thinking its Pulse Audio.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm having an issue where I can't hear any sounds in Ubuntu 10.04 (64-bit). In the Sounds Preferences, under Hardware it correctly lists "SB X-Fi Xtreme Audio". The sound is not muted, and I've tried cycling through various Profile options in the hardware tab. Since it is correctly detected, I'm thinking that there might be something simple that I'm missing here. The motherboard is an MSI P6N Diamond: [URL]

when I play an MP4 movie everything is great except all I hear is the background sounds in the movie..and non of the foreground (ie the actors speaking)...I have uninstalled pulse audio in the past and use alsamixer for any sound configs.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter I put my laptop for a system update, some of it [sounds] works selectively in my browser when I am watching ..... but when I am playing some musics on my desktop, there's no any sounds coming out. Then I noticed that my Output is still in 100% but 0.00db and a Dummy Output.
I already tried some steps I saw in some threads that has the same problem too but it became worse, I no more [completely] sounds anymore.
Hi, I have a Creative HS-1200 headset. When I am listening to sound through it, and something makes a motion on screen(compiz, movie...really anything) then the sound is distorted. Like it takes a nanosecond pauses to redraw. This does not happen with my normal soundcard. Can anyone tell me how can I fix this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I'm in mozilla, and click to listen a link that contains a sound (mp3 for example), it doesn't play. For example, when i'm in [URL], and click to Listen, it doesn't play why?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm still new to Ubuntu and I'm trying to get the sound working. I have a Satellite X205-SLi1 and just installed Lucid. Everything is okay, except for the sound. My laptop has 5.1 harman/kardon speakers and I think just some of them are being used and the quality is bad. I'm not sure what to do...
View 2 Replies View RelatedShould be a very simple question - how do I turn off the annoying beeps and bings when I delete a file or somesuch? In the XFCE sound settings I set the theme to none but I'm still getting these noises.
My ssytem is a Ubuntu Maverick install with an XFCE desktop so there may be more than one place I need to disable this.
I've been playing around with my settings for ages now but I cant get GTK-recordmydesktop to record anything other than my mic. Ideally I need the mic and the computer sounds to be recorded, any ideas how this can be done? I've googled around but nothing really helpful comes up. Also, if you need my hardware info, just tell me the command and i'll post the results.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure what the technical term for the thing that creates midi sounds. Is it the midi sequencer? or midi driver?Regardless, I'm unhappy with the tones ubuntu produces for its drum midis. Does any one know how to change which tones it uses? I use lilypond to write percussion music and it can be easily translated into a midi file. I like to do this so that I can hear how the music sounds in real life and many mistakes.Unfortunately the toms are painfully low and hard to distinguish.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI cannot get sounds of any kind to play on my machine. I tried the Comprehensive Sound Guide, but did not get very far. (I'm not very proficient with these things.) I did lspci -v and got:
Code: Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP79 High Definition Audio (rev b1)
Subsystem: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. Device 4570
Flags: bus master, 66MHz, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 23
Memory at fae78000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
Capabilities: <access denied>
Kernel driver in use: HDA Intel
Kernel modules: snd-hda-intel
but I cannot find my sound card on the ASLA site. I tried to follow the Sound Guide instructions after that, but I got lost.
I'm happily using recordmydesktop-gtk. What I can't figure out is if it's possible to record other then sounds from microphone even system's sounds. For instance, if I start recording while a video is playing in totem I would like to record video sound too. Otherwise if I'm recording some action with windows or programs I would like to record warning/error sound too.

I am on testing, using alsa and i have sound in players, login, flash, skype.....Exept window`s and buttons.
In sounds preferences, there are buttons to test the various system sounds. In this window the checkboxes for Enable sytem sound and Play System Sounds are selected. When I click the various buttons to test the sounds (default sound, drop etc. ) i hear sound themes. But when i close windows and use buttons there is no sound.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to listen to this audio file: [URL] but my real player 11.0.0.4028 gold desn play it, it says that there is a codec 28_8 missing, I go to relaplayer page, download the last release available for linux systems, but the message is the same : audio codec missing and doesn't play the audio.
I havev tried to play the audio with smplayer (not luck), vlc can play the audio but the pause button doesn't work so I have to listen the entire audio all the time I stop it playing. Is there any audio player capable od reproducing in the proper way this audio in ubuntu? No one of my video players totem, smplayer, realplayer or vlc are capable of playing this video: [URL]
I am running Ubuntu remix on my Asus Aspire Netbook. When watching movies on Video player and VLC I get good loud sound on music in the movie but I can barely hear anything when people talk ... background music and sounds are way louder than voices. I know these files work because I watched them before when I still had Windows XP on my netbook.
