Ubuntu Multimedia :: Getting Tv Card SSD-TV-675PLUS (saa7130) To Work?

Dec 12, 2010

I have a Dell optiplex GX260, 2.4ghz speed, 512 ram,40gb hard disk. I have installed two operating systems XP and ubuntu 9.10. My problem is getting the new Tv card to work with ubuntu. With xp it works with no problem. I tried to download prgrams like tvtime and xawtv but all amounted to nothing. tvtime fails even to launch while xawtv launches and hangs the computer and nothing responds. I have to manually shut it down using the power button. I did run the Command ( sudo dmesg) to extract some info that I thought might help and is pasted below.

[ 15.817800] Linux video capture interface: v2.00
[ 18.680474] saa7130/34: v4l2 driver version 0.2.15 loaded

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Video Card Died New Card Boots To Black?

Jul 15, 2010

My video card developed problems, so I followed the suggestion in this thread:

Quote: Boot into recovery mode, then choose root, for a command prompt and enter
Code: dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

but my ubuntu 10.04 32-bit system still won't boot. Shortly after the ubuntu logo comes up, before the login, my screen goes black and there is no more video signal. What else can I do to reset the video configuration? The card only has this info on it: I could put the card back in the system, reboot, and then pre-configure the system to drop to the intel 865G on-board video, but the msi card has intermittent problems and will spontaneously re-boot several times during the first ten minutes of turning on the system.

Multimedia :: Looking For Best Video Card For Ubuntu?

Aug 7, 2010

I'm looking to replace my video card...

From what I can tell (From Looking at forums)
Nvidia is the way to go with Ubuntu

Just want to double check that, since the newest post I found was a couple years old.

The video card I have now should be more than good enough for me.
All I do is watch videos and brows online.

But videos and desktop effects are both very choppy.

I realize that if I take the time, I can probably get my card to work well, but I just don't have the time.

Looking for a new card between $100-$150 that will work perfect right out of the box.

Multimedia :: Best Video Card For Ubuntu

Sep 2, 2010

After a post on the wine forums came to the discovery that my ATI radeon 4850 graphics card is causing much trouble in my ubuntu machine because of the lack of support. And because of that I cannot play my favorite games through wine. So now I'm saving some money to buy a new graphic card. A nvidia this time.
Now I don't know all that much about graphic cards, but I am looking for a card that works well on ubuntu that equals the performance of my old 4850 and fits my P5Q pro motherboard.
I myself don't know much about good graphic cards so if I go off to buy something without good advice I probably end up with something that does not work or fit or something like that.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Graphics Card Or More RAM?

I have recently started using openshot to edit video and have found it very good. Previously I have been using Kino and openshot certainly seems more intuitive. Trouble is the more ambitious my productions the more juddery and prone to crashing the program becomes So I am thinking of an upgrade. At the moment I am using on board graphics. Or would more ram be the first thing to go for.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Which Video Card To Buy?

I know in Windows it is very easy to configure, but our budget is very small and we cannot afford to purchase a Windows license, so I need to know which video cards to purchase in order to be easier to configure; ATI or NVidia?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Which Graphics Card To Use AMD Or ATi

May 9, 2011

trying to get Ubuntu to work properly on a Del Dimension 2400. It has on board Intel Extreme graphics card. [URL] It installs and but runs slowly when the ubuntu GUI is up and running. The CPU is maxed out for quite small tasks. Selecting additional drivers gives nothing, so I guess it isn't running the graphics card in hardware acceleration - which is slowing down the system. I want to buy a graphics card to use on this Dell PC. It uses PCI expansion cards. I'm thinking of ebaying a second hand graphics card.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: New Nvidia Card - Visualizations Gone

Jan 12, 2010

New VideoCard, mplayer visuals gone Mplayer and Rythmbox, which I believe use the same visualiser engine, have both gone black-screen since I installed a new video card. All was fine just this afternoon with integrated graphics, but I put in the video card and it all went kaput.Everything else is working fine - 3D games, GL screensavers, movies, and desktop effects (currently off, but they do work).

Any ideas what could be going on? The options for visualisations are enabled, I've tried just fiddling with the quality levels and changing the visualizer (Goom, monoscope, etc) and it's all just black. Here's a ton of info - I don't know what's needed so I'm just throwing anything I think might be requested in a pre-emptive move!Card: It's an MSI N9400GT - it's an Nvidia chipset something something, SLI card.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: TV Card: How To Upgrade Kernel

Mar 15, 2010

Karmic ( kernel 2.6.31) does not support my TV card:

Code:

~$ lspci -vnn

Multimedia controller [0480]: Philips Semiconductors SAA7131/SAA7133/SAA7135 Video Broadcast Decoder [1131:7133]"1131:7133" is nowhere present in the 2.6.31 SAA7134 cardlist. However, "1131:7133" is supported as card 17 under a different card name within kernel 2.6.33, see

HTML Code:

[URL]

Where do I look for guidance on such a kernel upgrade? My impression is that grub permits booting to an earlier kernel so a boo is recoverable. While not particularly relevant, my card is a Chronos Video Shuttle II.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Best Video Card For H.264 And HDMI?

Shopping for video cards, as I heard somewhere, is the kind of thing that makes you want to bang your head against a wall until you go blind, because then you won't need to worry about it any more... someone will be able to recommend a model, or at least a chipset or something, before I rip my own eyes out.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Sound Card Is Not Detected

Jul 17, 2010

I am attempting to get ubuntu working on my system.I have tried on previous systems without success, hopefully it works out this time.Currently my only major issue with it is I cannot get any sounds to play.I use a Logitech G35 usb headset and onboard audio (GIGABYTE GA-890GPA-UD3H motherboard, Realtek ALC892 audio chipset).Ideally, I'd like to be able to listen from either source, though just getting one working would be great.Ubuntu is currently not detecting any sound.

Using aplay -l, it said no sound card found. Using lspci -v, so sound devices were listed.I am a complete noob to ubuntu, I had to research to figure out what to do with 'aplay -l' (Application -> Accessories -> Terminal, type command in terminal). My Windows troubleshooting skills seem largely useless in a Linux environment.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: ATI Card And Resolution Not Detected

Sep 6, 2010

After a while I decided to give ubuntu another go so I set up a dual boot configuration. Everything works well except my graphics card. I have 2 problems (don't know if they are connected)To start with, it's a laptop with an onboard Radion 3200 and it has another ATI Mobility Radeon HD4570 built in. I have an external screen attached to my laptop. (1920x1080)When Ubuntu first booted it asked me if I wanted to install proprietary drivers, so I did that. Now when I took a look in the control center it showed my two monitors but they were both attached to the 3200 and I can't seem to find anything about the other (better) card. It does not appear in the proprietary drivers, I can't (I think) select it in the configuration utility.
