I know there are heaps of sound problem threads around here, and I've been through them all and I still can't my sound to work.I have the motherboards onboard audio which works perfectly when I plug in speakers.I want to use my Creative Xfi xtreme audio. View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm doing an install for a friend, the machine is a Gateway with AMD Turion64. The install required the 64 bit version of Lucid 10.04 RC. When I try to install the NVIDIA hardware driver, upon reboot, it flickers, fails, and tells me to use low-setting graphics mode.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've spent the last couple hours trying to figure out how to get my SoundBlaster XFi card working, but somehow in the process seem to have now also broken my on-board sound which when I first installed did work. I have no idea how as I hardly touched anything.Both cards are recognized in Sound preferences, sound is not muted there nor in Alsamixer. But neither produce any sound at all now.
Searching around the forums it seems that as of now my XFi should, kind of, work out of the box, but I've had no such luck.I'd really like any advice possible on getting my XFi with headphones to work in 10.04, but if this can't be done I'd atleast like to find a way to fully reset my sound setting so my on-board will work without having to wipe this partition and reinstall - there Must be an easier solution than that.
I have a EMU 1616m sound card and I can not get it to work with Ubuntu 10.04 or 10.10. At the boot sequence I get the message that firmware could not be loaded. However, when I use another Linux distro PARDUS that uses KDE, the card works perfectly. With KUBUNTU i don't get any chance either. I think it is a kernel problem but both distros have the same kernels. So, this is not a KDE vs GNOME problem either as KUBUNTU did not work it either.

I have two sound (or audio) hardware on my desktop computer. One is part of my computer motherboard and the other one is a sound card (CA0106 Soundblaster) I bought to replace the other one. When I first installed Ubuntu, my sound card was working properly after I made the necessary changes (system>preferences>sound), but after a few days it just stopped working and the sound from the motherboard is only working.
I reinstalled Ubuntu to my computer a few days ago, and my sound card was working again, but once again, it stopped working after a few days. How can I fix this?

I have just installed kubuntu 10. My mobo is ASUS p7h55, which hastwo on board sound cards, one for stereo and the other for outputting sound through the hdmi link. I have an almost noname tv tuner card: Vivanco PCI EASY BG/DK. Lspci says it is Philips Semiconductors SAA7134/SAA7135HL Video Broadcast Decoder (rev 01). Dmesg detected it as a LifeView FlyVIDEO3000. I tried to configure it making the file at /etc/modprobe.d with the options card=2 tuner=5 (I found that also in dmesg). Still TvTime can't find any channels. I also tried using xawtv and scantv, but only managed to find two channels using ntsc somehow, but I have PAL BG/DK. (the card itself works on Windows, but it took me a while to configure the channels properly)

Later on I went back into ubuntu and forgot about it. Ubuntu had updates to the system and since then I have not been able to get my sound to work.
View 2 Replies View RelatedJust fitted an Inno3D (I-7300LE-G4E3) graphics card and I get a distorted boot up screen, a virtually unreadble boot menu (lots of extra white bits all over the screen) and when the system is booting the black screen with "booting from .." and the underscore at the end, is covered with white commas (?!), then the login screen pops up for a fraction of a second, then get a blank screen and no signal-cant get anything after this (or from the vga port on the pc)-I ve tried logging in even though I cant see anything, but no music , nothing.
Thought I might have to download drievers AFTER I d installed it, but as I had this problem, I removed it and tried to download driers before installation. Not sure which of the 4 to try, but tried 2 and neither works-GDebi is offered as an app to open them but nothing happens, nothing happens if I just click on them and when I try and install them from a terminal with the script from the nVidia site, it says unable to open them.
I am unable to get the hdmi audio for from my graphics card to work. I do not have any speakers to test the other two, and redundant, sound cards .My graphics card is the Nvidia gtx 285, I auto installed the drivers via ubuntu. I am using ubuntu 9.10 (kernel 2.6.31-9-rt) and an M-Audio Delta 1010 PCI sound card, and trying to get MIDI inputs and outputs to work on this sound card.I have Jack installed and working. MIDI signals from virtual keyboard or a MIDI player can be routed to fluidsynth, and fluidsynth's audio can be played back through the outputs of the delta 1010.I can use a MIDI sequencer (e.g. rosegarden or qtractor) to record MIDI from virtual keyboard, with jack handling the routing.
But, no matter how I configure the connections in jack, I can't get any signals from the "MIDI In" port on the sound card.Does anybody have some thoughts on how to fix this? Where is the disconnect between the delta 1010 and qtractor? I am concerned also that the "MIDI In" LED on the front panel of the Delta 1010 never blinks. There must be some basic ALSA configuration that needs to be done to activate and use these MIDI ports, or something. I've been trying to figure it out for days.
Anybody know how to get pictures off of one? I've got a computer with XP, but the software doesn't want to work. I've tried setting it up in a VM, but VirtualBox won't patch the camera through for some reason. The SD card adapter it came with stopped working, so that's a no-go.

If i run lspci it shows lan card model, but lan card is not working. How do i check my lan card driver is installed or not?
Is there any way to list all installed drivers with hardware information like we have device manager in windows.
I had an Ubuntu Server 32 bit installation and everything was working fine. Now that I installed Ubuntu Server 64bit on a new drive in the same machine, the ethernet card is not working!! This is insane cause when I put the hard disk with the 32bit installation back and booting from it, the ethernet card is working without any problems but in the 64bits installation it is not shown at all using "ifconfig -a"

but my ubuntu 10.04 32-bit system still won't boot. Shortly after the ubuntu logo comes up, before the login, my screen goes black and there is no more video signal. The card only has this info on it: I could put the card back in the system, reboot, and then pre-configure the system to drop to the intel 865G on-board video, but the msi card has intermittent problems and will spontaneously re-boot several times during the first ten minutes of turning on the system.

No error message is coming from o/s, I have checked the sound card with head phones, still no sound.Now, I have checked my sound card, because on the same desktop pc, I have another hard drive, which runs Windows XP Professional, and my sound card works perfectly! Please note that I have two hard drives on my pc, one for Ubuntu and the other for XP. Could you give us working kernels in synaptic that we could use or test in 9.10 or 10.04? My attempts at installing kernels, or any program for that matter, from any place but synaptic or add/remove programs has usually ended in disaster.

Well, turns out it should not have been recommended. I had restarted and all I got was a low res ubuntu logo and a boot right into a full screen terminal. Tried startx and got a no screens found, I look online for about an hour last night and decided to just reinstall, which takes a couple hours when installing all the packages.
I have done more research today and found to install the latest linux x64 driver from nVidias website, which I did, but it does not run. I followed some more instructions and it said to do a �sudo chmod +x <file>� which I did, and it starts to open and I get �You appear to be running an X server; please exit X before installing.�
I�m starting to get a little frustrated here, guess I�m just used to a lot of the ease of windows and assumed that something like installing a graphics card driver would be easy.
