Since when did the Rhythmbox notification icon get removed from the panel and merged in with the volume/sound notification icon in gnome? When I started using 10.10 Rythmbox had its own notification icon on the top gnome panel. now i have rebuilt my computer with 10.10 and the icon is gone but the Rythmbox controls are built into the sound notification icon.I did install the updates while the Ubuntu 10.10 install was running (there is an option to download and install update in the OS install wizard).I just want to know if this came down as some kind of update.
I have a machine running Ubuntu 10.04 and I accidentally removed the Rhythmbox icon in the notification area by right clicking it and I think I must have selected remove or something.
The problem is I cannot seem to get it back and it is enabled under the Plugins section of Rhythmbox.
I just noticed that rhythmbox isn't showing the nice libnotify popups on song change. I use the next/prev buttons on my multimedia keyboard, but I can't see what I'm listening to anymore.I can't find the option to enable or disable this feature.how I can resolve this?
I made the upgrade to 10.10 the other day, and it's pretty functional. The few problem that keep erking me are as follows: 1. Often when I boot up the gnome-panel is buggy, I run Code:
gnome-panel --replace to fix this, which it does. I'd just like it to look normal at boot up.
2. The GDM (or compiz) doesn't boot up correct all of the time. Every now and then I'll open a program after booting and will have no minimize/restore/exit buttons. I fix this buy just turning compiz on using the compiz-switch icon which I put up in my panel. 3. Why doesn't rhythmbox minimize to the notification area. I like the mini player in sound menu, but I hate that if you want it out of your system tray it has to be closed.
The Rhythmbox package was updated via Yum recently (today for me, out of fedora-updates) and now no longer displays its icon in the notification area. The package for me (Fedora 11 x86-64) is versioned 0.12.3-1. Has anyone else seen this behavior
completed the first of my five pending Lucid upgrades a few hours ago, the upgrade progress went real smooth. SoI have been checking various apps to make sure they are working ok after the upgrade, and noticed that Amarok will not show its notification (tray) icon in the usual place after the upgrade. This is a pain because normally one would launch Amarok, select a playlist/album whatever, than close the window and skip tracks whatever using the tray icon. Did a bit of googling and found a bug in launchpad it's because Amarok draws a custom icon instead of passing a bitmap, or something, but cannot locate the bug again now. I then tested Rhythmbox and found the same issue.
I am a naive user in ubuntu and firstly, I do not get a network icon on my notification area. Secondly, when I connect using pon dsl-provider, my connection stays for sometime but it doesn't remain for long. I have to reconnect and again the connection is shortlived...
I disabled update checking and notifications, but now I get a red triangle icon in the taskbar that says the db is out of date. Is there a way to hide that icon and not have it show up again?
I'm using Ubuntu Lucid 64bit. Thunderbird 2 had an add-on for new mail icon notification in the tray, but I haven't yet found a working replacement for Thunderbird 3.
so far 10.04 is great.. coming over from Fedora.. liking what I see... however, question..
Is there any way to get the default mail icon in the top right corner to notify of new mail in gmail? I found an app that does it, gmail notifier or something.. but seems redundant to have 2 mail icons when 1 would do the job.. but not sure how I'd configure it. I see that I can set up evolution but.. I've got tens of thousands of messages on gmail, and it would take wayyy too long to download.. I'd rather it just notify me of new mail and open a browser to gmail when I click it or something like that. So, any way of doing this?
I'm using ubuntu 10.4 and accidently removed the notification area from the top panel. Since then, I haven't been able to retrieve the icon. As I've read in many threads, I've added a new panel and added a notification error, but the area stays empty. (see screenshot) My other icons like the volume control and the amarok icon were gone as well, but setting up a new indicator applet did the trick. Still, the skype icon won't come back, I've even removed Skype and reinstalled it, but nothing changed. how I could get the icon back again?
It is mentioned in bugs and other posts, but they are old and don't provide an answer. On my small screen, the extra horizontal spacing/padding between the icons in the notification area takes up far, far too much space. Is there a way to reduce the spacing/padding. Preferably, I would put it back to what it was in Karmic which I think was about half the current spacing/padding.
I am using Thunderbird 3.1 with minimize to tray extension on Ubuntu 10.04. When I receive a new mail I expect that the Thunderbird icon in the tray becomes a mail icon.
The icons in the notification area became out of order when I switched displays (laptop / external display). I was able to rearrange all of them by right-click > Unlock from panel > Move except for the wireless icon which doesn't have a "Lock to panel" option when I right click it. Is there a way to move it back to the left of the date?
Does anybody know how to get back Pidgin original icon(s) in Xubuntu 11.04 Notification area? I need it because I don't like that blue envelope in Indicator plugin, I would like to use it as "old fashion way".
Here is an example how icon looks like when Show system tray icon is selected.

Last night I upgraded to the 10.04 development release, and I am pleased with what I see so far. I ran into a problem, however, with the power manager.I am using an MSI Wind U100.
First, I have lost my battery icon from the notification area. It reappears if I plug in, or unplug my AC adapter. Second, under, "Power Management Preferences" I have lost my "On Battery Power" tab, leaving only, "On AC Power" and "General"
If I wait about seven minutes, the battery icon will appear in the notification area, but the tab remains lost. The problem is due to update. I have confirmed by installing a fresh 9.10 and upgrading again to 10.04 without making any other changes to system.
While my wifi still is working just fine (I'm here aren't I), the Network Manager has disappeared from the Notification Area on my panel upon reboot.Have all current patches, so have no clue what to do. Most likely is a bug.
I am annoyed with the pop up of volume control notification on GUI of my Ubuntu 10.10 ,The volume slide bar moves automatically. Its flickering on my screen and hinders my work.I wonder why ,I am new to Ubuntu ,how to put off this notification I tried
but the notification icon is gone but a small volume control frame appeared from now-where giving the same frustration.( I have installed Ubuntu10.10 on HP Pavilion dv5-1015nr laptop un-installing the preloaded windows)
I am having a minor annoyance with the Banshee music note icon that is in the notification area. For some reason, it won't have its background be transparent like the rest of the icons on the panel. I know it's not a major thing,
i just installed ubuntu 11.04 on my brand new eMachine desktop but after install the dropbox desktop application, its icon in the notification bar (beside clock and network connection) will disappear after restart the computer. i tried to reinstall dropbox application but the icon will disappear again after reinstall.
After ubuntu 10.10 upgrade (from 10.04), the Rhythmbox icon has disappeared. I open Rhythmbox, play some music, then close or mimimize the window (music continues, i.e. the program still operates from memory). But there is no panel icon anymore. Up to v. 10.04 I could reopen end control the program window via the panel icon.
creating your own notification icon for Gnome? Like the Power, Network, and Sound ones. I found something called Zenity but it doesn't seem to be able to create a drop-down menu and I can't see how I'd update the information in the icon once it is created. I have a script set up to check something and want to report the results back via a persistent notification icon, with the ability to change the icon and its properties (mouseover/tooltip text) and drown-down menu text as appropriate.
My network icon has disappeared from the notification area.I've tried running nm-applet, but it replies that I've got already an instance running. How can I make it appear?
In the XP version of Thunderbird, a try icon appears when new mail arrives. I noticed in the Linux version I don't get the tray icon. Is there anyway of getting it to show or is it not available in the Linux version?
