keep the connection open with scp? I really don't like having to type my password in every time I want to transfer a file. Or is there another similar program that will keep my connection open?

I recently switched from ubuntu to fedora and had a script to mount and umount sshfs when the network changed states. I placed the scripts in /etc/network/if-up.d/ and /etc/network/if-down.d/ and they were run any time the network went up or down. The closest thing I've been able to find is editing the ifup and ifdown scripts in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripting/, but that looks like it would be broken after an update. I'd also rather not use a script with ping because that wouldn't work well when the network goes up and down several times.I've been looking for a while and haven't been able to find a method similar to debian on fedora. Is there something I overlooked?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI use ubuntu 10.04 on my desktop pc and i have on my laptop installed Windows XP with Office 2007. The office suite has been activated for the third and last time, because windows crashed on me twice before, prompting my move to linux. while this third activation of office is still working i was wondering if there was some way to salvage this activation, so i don't lose it should it fail, which it most likely will at some point in the future. i was thinking if there was a software that could copy an already installed operating system and turn it into a virtual machine. That software would of course have to run in an windows environment.
I know i can use openoffice, and i do. Its great to get things done quickly, but my college course is specific to office 2007, and i have to memorise the interface to be able to write up procedures from memory.I'm not sure but xp is probably very hardware specific so as long as i run that virtual machine on my laptop with a linux distro i should be fine.
Stupid browser froze up when I tried to submit this before... *sigh* Anyway, is there a simple midi editor that that isn't Rosegarden and doesn't require JACK? Something would simply let me load a Soundfont, and then edit and export a multi-track midi file without a bunch of other stuff you have to do?
View 2 Replies View RelatedLooking for a Open Source music composition editor similar to Sibelius. I found and settled on Rosegarden. Sound card is Creative Audigy 2 Platinum EX. I also have a midi keyboard which I would like to use with rosegarden. After downloading rosegarden, I found out in order to use the MIDI sequencer, I have to compile and install a real time kernel.
I finally got my kernel configured and installed, recompiled all the video/Ethernet drivers etc (after about a dozen tries ) Now on to the issue... As root, I can run the JACK audio server with realtime priority (as it is needed by Rosegarden) with the command
jackd -R -dalsa &
it starts up and seems to run. Then as a regular user, I try to connect to the JACK audio server using the qjackctl application. Qjackctl loads, but cannot seem to connect to the jack server, giving me the message "UNABLE TO CONNECT TO SERVER AS CLIENT"
HOWEVER, using the same procedure above as root, I can connect to the jack audio server with qjackctl. Rosegarden will start as a regular user but will also not connect to the JACK audio server (therefore: no sound or midi sequencer) Ive tried running Rosegarden as root (I didnt like having to do that), but get a similar error.
Through some googling, I�ve found that JACK clients (qjackctl, rosegarden etc.) must be executed by the same user who launched the JACK server. -- no problem...Except I cannot run a realtime application as a regular user. I read online that regular users can start realtime applications using the LSM module (whatever that is, I couldn�t find all that much).
how do I start the jack audio server in realtime mode as a regular user? if that is not possible...Is there a way to configure JACK so that it is started by root, but allows clients launched by regular users to connect?
I am using F12 and whenever i open the firewall program it hangs. Is this common or is it just me?

I am currently running and upgrade from F10 to Fedora 11 with the PAE kernel. Also I am using KDE 4 with kmod-nivida drivers. Now here is what I have done
To install Virtualization requirements I did the following: sudo yum groupinstall 'Virtualization'
I then also did: sudo yum install kvm qemu libvirt python-virtinst
I then installed xen:
sudo yum install xen*
Now, I read that i needed "kernel-xen" but it doesn't appear to exists a "yum list kernel*' only displays kernel packages and the kernel PAE pakages so I figured I don't need it I then started all the xen services and libvirtd service Opened virt-manager and added a new connection: hupervisor: Xen and connection: local
I get the following error: Unable to open connection to hypervisor URI 'xen:///': <class 'libvirt.libvirtError'> unable to connect to 'localhost:8000': Connection refused

I guess my question now is... what is the difference between the hypervisor: QEMU/KVM and XEN. Because I seem to be able to create a VM using this. My VM is an XP vm for work purposes to run some windows only software I would like to use XEN as I just have my mind set on it but I might just be ignorant and on the wrong track is there a how to guide for fedora 11 and xen? the fedora 7 guide i found needs the kernel-xen installed.
I'm running Fedora 15, and am trying to run a program that uses gsoap/soapcpp2 2.7.17 to communicate with different parts of the program. As far as I know everything has compiled correctly and I am using the same versions of the required libraries as several working installations. However, every single time the program tries to open a port, the program is unable to do so. This happens no matter what port I specify.
if there is anything in fedora that would limit or disable the ability of the program to open a port to start communicating. I have tried disabling the firewall with no change to the behaviour.
I was recently looking at the 3D trendalyzer tool that is being pushed i think by google.This tool looks awesome. Does anybody know of any software available in open source that performs similar functions?

The /etc/cups/printers.conf file is properly set, the printers appear in localhost:631 and they are printing test pages. However, all command line print commands seem to be trying to print to sdst@other.domain I don't know why printers.conf is being ignored and why and how sdst@other.domain was added. Seems like it might have been auto-discovered?
