View 2 Replies View RelatedI use a USB webcam with a built in microphone. It works fine, but every time I plug it in I have to go to sound properties and select it as the input device. There are no other input devices present on my system. Since it's the only one there, is there any way to get it to automatically select when I plug it in? If not, I think that would be good functionality to add. Does anyone know who or what team to contact about that?

I'm using FFADO on JACK in order to use my firewire device (M-Audio Profire 610) and I seem to have the opposite issue as others who have similar problems. Everything starts up fine, and I can record audio into Ardour using my inputs, but I can't get any output from any of my 8 line outs.
I've checked the connections using QjackCtl, and I tried to route audio from another program (Audacious) but I can't seem to pull audio out of the device (or the computer won't send my device audio?).
I'm having here annoying "problem" with my webcamera. Everytime I want to use it as a microphone it needs to be switched manually in sound settings menu. It's not a big deal but I would really rather let it be switched automatically like plug and play or something like that.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am working on an embedded system, which is an USB MSC device that supports some vendor specific scsi commands. I am using FC10 laptop as USB host for testing, and it runs some small apps based on sg3. All has been well for ~ a week. The FC10 laptop is able to communicate with the device and retrieve data. Suddenly, starting from today, the laptop is not able to properly detect the device. When plugged-in, the MSC device is detected as input device (I thought). This is observed from "dmesg" output and changes in "/dev/input/".The device under development is running at full speed. When I connect to winXP, no problem. A windows file explorer pops up, showing the content of the drive.Also, the FC10 has no problem with other USB flash drive (high speed).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've decided to toy around with LVM and mdadm this weekend. I can get everything working, and all is well, until I restart. After that, I no longer have any /dev/md0 device, which during the auto mount process, causes an error. I've looked through several HOWTOs, as well as the LVM/mdadm man pages, and I believe I've tracked it down to mdadm's "assemble" that is needed (so that LVM can see the md0 device).
Not exactly sure how to go about having this occur during the boot process to ensure that the LVM mapped drive is available for when fstab is read. In case it helps this is a base install of 10.10 server 64. I have four drives, the first is used for the OS and is not in the RAID array (nor LVM). The second and third are RAID1 (/dev/md0) and there is a volume group associated with /dev/md0. The last is a LVM, but not RAID, and it has its own volume group.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have swapped out four known working, different bran network cards. Each one I get the same error as in the subject. If I boot to a Live CD such as CentOs 5.3 LiveCD both Nics are given an IP. This seems to only be happening with my CentOs 5.3 server install.I noticed the CentOS Live CD the Nics were reversed from eth0 to eth1 and eth1 to eth0.
At the moment as of the output of the commands, I am running two identical Nics, since the first one has always worked. I have previously used an rtl8139, 3com c3905-TX, onboard Rhine III based (now disabled) Here are steps I have done to try and figure this out:

I went through the system-config-network-tui. I copied /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1 to the ifcfg-eth0 and edited for sanity. and as stated earlier, have swapped out four different nics for eth0, and booted to two different LiveCD's. Both LiveCD's work fine.
I have installed Open SUSE in my DELL server which has 2 broadcom NIC cards, it showing both the NIC cards in Network configuration in YAST ,but it showing as not configured and not connected . Kernel device eth0,wlan0 are not present. In device manager also 2 Broadcom nic cards are detected.

I'm running CentOS 5.2 on an ASUS M2NPV-VM motherboard. This motherboard includes an NVIDIA nForce 430 built-in Gigabit MAC (network interface). I've also installed a second PCI network interface card (NC100 Network Everywhere Fast Ethernet 10/100). The PCI-based card was configured as eth0, while the built-in NIC was configured as eth1. The machine is used as my firewall/router, so eth0 is my internal interface, while eth1 is my external interface. I've had some intermittent problems with the built-in (eth1) NIC. When booting the machine and it attempts to bring up the interface, I get the following message: forcedeth device eth1 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization From that time forward, there is no eth1, and so no external network, etc. If I try running /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup eth1 (from that directory), it results in the same error.
Originally, I was getting this error when installing the operating system on the machine. At that time, I was using a 75' ethernet cable (as I was working on the machine in my office, and the external ethernet jack was in another part of the house). As soon as I moved the machine to its permanent location (which is within 2 feet of the ethernet jack), the problem went away. However, I just updated the kernel (via yum) from 2.6.18-92.1.22.el5 to 2.6.18-128.1.6.el5, and now it fails 9 out of 10 times. I'm not even sure what I can do to debug this. I'm assuming there is some kind of timing problem with the initialization. Is there a configuration parameter I can set to allow more time for the initialization to do what it needs to do, to prevent this error?
I just attempted to install to a USB drive, and somehow in the process, GRUB overwrote my Windows 7 bootloader on the internal disk. My work laptop is now booting into a grub recovery whenever my USB key isn't present (with error: no such device and the uuid) - and hangs on a blinking cursor whenever the key is plugged in.I'm not familiar with what my options are for grub rescue, but ls shows (hd0) (hd0,msdos2) (hd0,msdos1) (fd0)
My laptop is encrypted, so I don't have much chance of recovery unless I can get back to the windows bootloader.
I have installed Linux SuSE 10.3 on a PC (Lenovo Thinkstation A58). However, when I start the computer I get the following error message:
"No valid Host_ID or host-name found."
I then use YaST to set up the network. I get the following error message:
"Unable to configure the network card because the kernel device is not present."
The computer has Windows 7 installed and everything seems to work fine. The LED on the Ethernetplug is blinking when using Windows, but not when using Linux. I guess this means that there is no driver for the Ethernet card (Marvell Yukon 88E8057). I have not found any driver for the card and am considering buying a new one. Which PCI card works with SuSE Linux 10.3?
Ethernet card works, but Wireless card activation fails at bootup time. It also fails if I try it again from the Network Configuration UI.

I recently got a real fancy unidirectional microphone, but when I go and use it, something strange happens. The mic is a mono mic, but when I record something, it appears to think it's stereo. Instead of having the same thing on both channels, it puts it all in the left channel, and silence on the right channel.
I tried fiddling with alsamixer. In capture (F4), adjusting the "Capture" device has an effect. However, it doesn't do anything useful. Lowering the right channel to zero does nothing, lowering the left channel to zero creates silence, and disabling the right channel creates silence.
In my System>Preferences>Sound (or pavucontrol, or what-have-you), there are "Analog Stereo Input" and "Analog Stereo Duplex" options there, but no "Analog Mono Input" or "Analog Stereo Output + Analog Mono Input" options (the latter being ideal).
Something interesting, though, if I do this:

it works correctly and outputs on both channels. But if I do

then it's back to the same behavior. The VU meter on the second command shows the left channel going up and down as I make noise, but the right one always at zero.
The machine does have a crap internal mic built in to the screen bezel. If I do either of the above commands, they both work correctly. The stereo VU shows the same activity for both channels.
The machine is a Eee 1015PED, which has Intel integrated sound. Something probably insignificant is that the mic has a 1/4 inch mono plug, and to get it to plug into the Eee, I needed to get a 1/4 female to 1/8 male adapter. The mic's 1/4 plug is mono (duh) and therefore two-conductor, but the adapter I got is stereo, or three conductor (L, R, GND). I don't know if this is tripping something in hardware to tell it it's stereo or something.
I tried the mic on my desktop, which has a SB Audigy 4 (the non-pro flavor) and that has the "Analog Mono Input" function, so that works fine. Is there some way to turn this stereo input into mono input?
I installed Lucid. I used to have Ubuntu 9.10 and to connect my iPod to my laptop's speakers. There was an option in 9.10 in the Sound Options to change the Mic Input into a Line Input. But now unfortunately I can't find it in Lucid have only 2 audio ports in the laptop: Headphone port, Mic port.
View 9 Replies View RelatedInstalled a TP-Link TG-3269 Gigabit card in a machine running OS 11.3 32 bit, when I go into Yast, Network Devices, Network to try configuring the card I get this errormsg: Unable to configure the network card because the kernel device (eth0, wlan0) is not present. This is mostly caused by missing firmware (for wlan devices). See dmesg output for details. Couldn't find any mention of the card in dmesg's output, (though the 8139 onboard card is in there) there is some stuff about pci host bridge but I don't know whether they would be relevant or not
The chip on the card says it's rtl8169sc but lspci lists it as being 00:07.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Device 8369 (rev 10) Done some googling and there don't seem be any drivers for a Realtek 8639 and it returns no matches from a search on realtek's site, but there is a driver there for rtl8169sc chips, which I downloaded and installed, no errors when installing it Even after a reboot I still get the same error in Yast's Network Settings screen, lspci still lists it as 8369 and the device isn't listed at all if I run ifconfig
I installed 10.10 a few hours ago and now found out that the linux executable file of Keryx [offline soft installer] is not working as it did before. The problem is that when i press the application icon it says "Could not display executable file, no software installed for that" etc but it didn't need wine or this kind of software befor on lucid..

This morning when I started my computer, it froze during boot and my Ubuntu is not working anymore. I managed to start it in "Safe Mode" and checked the kernel version which is 2.6.35-24-generic . In System > About Ubuntu it says that I am using Ubuntu 11.04 - the Natty Narwhal - released in April 2011 and supported until October 2012 even though I am sure I didn't do any dist. upgrade.

I have installed Lynx and want to use two X servers at the same time. Each server has its own ServerLayout section in xorg.cong. The first ServerLayout Section has AutoAddDevices enabled, so that new input devices are added automatically. The second ServerLayout has AutoAddDevices disabled, and one InputDecice pointing to /dev/input/mouse3. That way, this mouse is the only input decive affecting the second X instance.
Unfortunately, this mouse is also controlling the first server (due to AutoAddDecives). Can anyone tell me how to disable this? I want every input device to be added to the first server, except this mouse. In earlier versions of ubuntu, I used a hal rule to make hal ignore this mouse. So it was not added to the first server. Now that hal is not used by lynx anymore, I don't know how to do this. I have already read some things about udev and the xorg.conf.d folder.
I have a Kore Controller from Native Instruments [URL] using it as a sound card on Fedora 12. Its input knobs are supported by Linux, too, but they are pretty useless for me.It came out that these input knobs send mouse movements from time to time, letting my mouse pointer jumping to the upper left corner of the screen.
So I want to disable the knobs, i.e. I want X to not interpret these "knob actions" as mouse movements. What is the best way to achive this? Can I disable it somewhere in HAL configuration or do I have to modify xorg.conf? And how do I do this?Simply plugging out the Kore Controller is not an option for me because I use it as sound card.
I just bought an M-Audio Keystation 49e off of craigslist and I'm at a bit of a loss on where to start to use it as an input device for muse or rosegarden.

Everything seems setup, but I'm at a loss on how to use it in the applications. It doesn't have any sound synthesis abilities on the keyboard, it's just an input device. Without the keyboard I usually go this route:

And midi events output sounds and all that jazz. I'm wanting to input notes / record from the keyboard. But still output all sounds in the aforementioned manner. If I could get those to happen while I record that would help a bunch. Maybe it's just too late in the day for me to wrap my brain around it at the moment.

On karmic the audio input device would constantly reset to muted. On lucid, it keeps resetting it to the microphone jack at the back of the computer (While I have a webcam up and running that it knows is what I use. How can I get it to remember my audio input? One more functionality issue till bingo. How can I give a window "Widget" status: I want it not to minimize when I hit ctrl alt D (Like conky and other widgets).

I use a Logitech USB headset with microphone at work for phone conferencing, and for some reason whenever I restart Ubuntu (and sometimes seemingly at random times), the settings for the audio input device revert to the defaults (the internal audio hardware).I can always reset it back to the USB headset by going to the sound configuration menu (Preferences -> Sound -> Input), but if any applications that use a microphone are already running, they will need to be restarted in order to make use of the newly configured input device.

But I often accidental click the pad while typing.Synaptic driver recognises it as ALPS glide point it seems (synclient -m 1 gives me back only x,y difference for the gestures, but X,Y coordinates are always 0,0) - so then I get everything right including disabling mouse on keyboard input - but scrolling doesn't work So I came up with 2 possible ideas - which I don't know how to do/test:1. Perhaps there is a way to disable mouse input while typing without synaptics drivers?2. Create a dummy input device (mouse), and tie synaptics driver to it. Add another input device in xorg.conf to point to the real touch pad as PS/2. And make the synaptics disable "real mouse" by enabling GuestMouseOff option.
