I'm trying to use K9copy in Ubuntu 10:10 to shrink some videos from a straight iso copy down to a 800MB avi file. The video seems to copy fine and the picture looks fine but when I try play it in VLC theres no sound.
Is there something I'm missing? And yes I played the ISO in VLC and had it play with sound fine.
I have made the jump to Ubuntu, I have installed 10.10 on a Dell Precision 360, I have sound on VLC player, internet radio, but when I want to preview in K9copy I see the Video but hear no sound.
This may also be the issue with dvdshrink under wine, which loops fo about second or 2
I dual boot between Windozs XP professional and Ubuntu
I want to copy one track/chapter from a DVD to an AVI file, but the sound is not copied only the video. I
- selected track/chapter by clicking checkbox - selected 'MPEG-4 encoding' for output - used default settings (codecs were 'copy' for video and audio) - clicked DVD copy action
Result:
1. Movie Player: no sound 2. VLC: Error message 'No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format How can I get sound and video?
P.S. Using k9copy version 2.3.5. I tried all audio codecs available in the k9copy Audio tab. They failed in the same way as before. The chapter list contains 'audio 1 Unknown pcm 2ch 48kHz 16bps'. I don't know how to interpret that. Also installed and tried AcidRip and Dvd:rip. Sound worked fine for both. AcidRip did not show any audio settings. Dvd:rip showed:
Running Opensuse KDE 11.2 64bit. Trying to backup DVD, but no sound after playing ripped copy. After looking at the settings in K9copy and DVD95, the sound section says "Unknown AC3" where it normally says "English AC3". I've tried mencoder and ffmpeg.
I am using k9copy to extract the five titles in a DVD ISO-image to separate avi-files. I selected the copy option for both audio and video, and made sure all the tracks were selected. The resulting avi's played without sound in Totem. VLC gave an error message that audio format " []" was not supported.
I then did the extract again, selecting aac for the audio processing. The result was the same.
Again, with mp2, the same result.
The DVD contains audio in "mp2 2ch 48KHz 20bps" format (information shown by k9copy).
When I play the video from the ISO, using VLC, sound is ok.
How can I get k9copy to extract the video with sound?
If I use K9Copy to compress a 6.4 gb DVD to a 4.4gb ISO files, it heats up the CPU and the machine shuts off. When I do this with system monitor ON, I see 160% to 180% CPU usage. I guess this is due to dual core on my Gateway laptop. Then I installed DVD Shrink and tried the same by running DVD Shrink using Wine. This caused the same problem.I did not have this issue when I was using Windows Vista. Is there anything that I can do to avoid this problem?
I have just installed Lucid Lynx but cannot get K9copy to work at all. It loads, but closes as soon as I try to open the dvd. Anyone else getting similar problems, or, more to the point, does anyone know how to fix it?
I had some problems upgrading from 10.4 to 10.10, and I had to select the "safe mode" equivalent option in the grub loader to boot, or else my system would hang at the screen with the dots before the login prompt. I restored the packages and now my system works. I am not sure if this is relevant to my problem.
K9Copy worked fine prior to upgrading to 10.10, now it crashes as soon as I load it. I have searched but found nothing relevant to my problem.
I have a problem with K9Copy's back up system it cannot seem to shrink a DVD9 down to 4.7gb to fit on a standard 4.7gb DVD Disk, how to correct this? As it renders K9copy totally pointless for me.
I finally got K9copy to work and I'm using it to extract DVDs to my hard drive. I extract a dual layer DVDs it becomes a 5GB DVD. In the settings, I have DVD size as 9GB because I assumed this would not cause any compression. When I use k9copy assistant to change the shrink factor before ripping, I can only change the shrink factor of some titles to 1.67 from 2.50. I want the shrink factor to be 1 since this seems to ensure that the output of the file is the same size as the title on the dvd. I want the copied DVD to be the same size as the original. I have no problem with hard drive space since I have 6 terrabytes of free space.
What is the difference between /usr/local/include and /usr/include? When I compile my program, is both /usr/local/include and /usr/include avaliable? Can I copy a file from /usr/local/include to /usr/include?
I am having a great time very quickly migrating from Windows through Ubuntu.
One area that I am still having trouble in is transcoding VOB into DivX, XviD, AVI, etc. I have been succesful one time using k9copy and it made a great looking avi. Since that time I get a failure on the 2nd pass. It seems as if the problem is related to the line in the error log "requested bit rate too low". So I changed from filesize to bitrate selection in the wizard and set it at max (99999). This got it to start the 2nd pass but still ended up crashing about 3/4 of the way through with an unexpected error message. Undaunted i tried again with the same setup and options. This time I once again got the bitrate too low error on the 2nd pass.
I have tried other GUI apps like avidemux (sound out of sync with that one), WinFF (not merging the vob's together), and others without satisfactory results. It would be great if I could get k9copy to work as it did the first try as it did exactly what I am looking for.
I have mencoder and all the depedencies installed (I believe). I am running a quad core amd64 bit processor and ubuntu 10.04.
It is just puzzling to me that k9copy worked flawlessly the first time and now nothing but trouble.
These are VOB's that have been put together by IFOedit from files dmuxed by DVDdecryter (under wine) stripped of copy guard. I take the ac3 soundtrack and convert it into WAV so that i can add a commentary (rifftrax) in audacity, then convert that back into ac3 and combine it all together again. I have been doing this for some time in Windows, and can now do everything in Ubuntu except for the avi transcode (really bothersome to reboot into windows just to run DivX Pro converter).
I'm trying to copy DVD's to 700mb so that they will play in DIVX on my DVD player. I'm using K9Copy 2.3.5.I've set the options to:And also tried changing the codec to MPEG-4 (DIVX 4/5)But when I select the title I wish to copy, no MPEG-4 tabs appear at the bottom of K9Copy to adjust the settings for each chapter. This means that the avi file created is 3.2GB.
I just downloaded the SDL source code. i did compile and make of this code.then i did make install. but i didnt see the files of SDL.h and lib.SDL.*** in /usr/include/ but later i found out that these files are placed in /usr/local/include and /usr/local/lib. how can i specifically install libraries on /usr/include and /usr/lib

Is it possible to rework an .avi to include hard subs from a .srt file I would really like to do this with ffmpeg but it seems that -newsubtitle doesn't work for me. This is the command line so far ffmpeg -i infile.avi -vtag xvid -b1550k -r 23.970 -newsubtitle infile.srt -acodec libmp3lame -ac 2 -ab 128k -ar 48000 outfile.avi
I have used avidemux to cut a mp4 file, choosing just a part of it, and I have discovered it automatically adds "avidemux" to the beginning of the name of the file, plus the author of the file and that I cannot edit the file to erase it. Note that I talk about "right click - properties", and that the file, as seen from home folder dont include the "avidemux" prefix, but if, for instance, I run the file with VLC, "avidemux" will appear, and that is annoying. how to delete that annoying avidemux prefix?
I cant download k9copy :S I cant find it anywhere on the getdeb and the link to the getdeb k9copy page on the k9copy website just takes me to the welcome page.
I've tried pretty much every DVD ripping program available, DVD::Rip, DVD95converter, DVD Movie Backup. My favorite backup program is k9copy (easiest to use and has all the features I need). But no matter what I try, certain Disney movies just won't backup. Specifically, at the moment, many of the Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli films.
After selecting the disc, the program either crashes out immediately, or it starts filling up the memory, slowing everything down, until finally it crashes. I thought updating to the newest version would maybe help (not even available through standard "Update Manager", had to find it myself), but the same problems occur. I'm currently trying with ddrescue, hoping that works. But I don't really like the idea of using a series of programs to get the output I want.
Is there a program that can backup, compress, and convert a Disney movie into a playable/burnable ISO file? Because these films are Japanese, I would definitely prefer something that can output normal switchable subtitles and audio (as opposed to an MPG or AVI that just has the one audio track).
I'm attempting to rip a DVD made by a friend, and I am using k9copy with minimal success. I am attempting to rip to .avi, but every time I start the backup, my DVD drive shuts off at 64%. I get this issue: Code: Executable: k9copy PID: 6563 Signal: Segmentation fault (11)I have had a few issues with the drive before, but nothing this consistent. I'm running k9copy 2.3.5 and 10.10 maverick.
About 2 weeks ago I upgraded my Ubuntu OS from 8.04 to 8.10 and then to 9.04 with kernel 2.6.28 - 10 - Generic.Today I discovered K9Copy no longer works. When I start K9Copy it comes up ok but if I click on anything in the main window (file, copy, etc.) I get a message that says:A fatal error occured. The application K9Copy crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV)
Last week I did the upgrade from Ubuntu 10.10 to 11.04. Did it on-line, and it went really well; actually the best upgrade since I started with Dapper I promptly got rid of the Unity desktop and went back to Gnome. Everything worked normally, except K9copy does not work any more. Whether I invoke it from the terminal or the Apps menu, it open the first window and crashes when trying to read the DVD; here is the terminal output:
I am trying to install the latest version of K9copy, but the only available version is in the .tar.gz file package. I placed the folder on my desktop and extracted the files. Now I have the .tar.gz file and the extracted files on the desktop. I need to install the files, but I don't know which command to use or what to do to get any commands to work.
(Keep in mind that the extracted folder is named 'k9copy-2.3.4-Source.tar.gz') ./configure make make install This seems to be the most common answer to install the files, but it NEVER works, nor do I understand where the package files come into play when I type this command into the terminal.
I have been using Ubuntu as my main OS on my desktops for a couple of years now. Started off with a HP with a Creative Labs XiFi soundcard, but am now using a Dell with a Creative Labs Audigy. Sound worked perfectly on the Dell since a clean install (about 7 months ago). I turned it on a week or so ago, and no sound! Even the little sound indicator in the notification area has gone.
After installing I was not able to get many of the audio programmes to work. After some reading, I realised that this was probably due to jack not starting.
I was unable to get jack to start normally but have been able to get it started with the playback only option selected. Programmes that use jack now work, however there is no sound once jack has been started. The sound does work in other programs when jack is not started. Strangely, I only have to open qjackctl for the sound to stop, and jack is not even started. Initially I thought these problems were due to my sound card not being supported, but I believe that alsa support was added for the via 1708 codec at some point. I found that support had been added in a document showing the changes between alsa versions; however I cannot find the exact model listed as a supported sound card on the alsa site.
I believe that altering jack settings could fix the problem, as i have been able to get audio to work in hydrogen by selecting plughw:0 but there is still no sound in other programs. I have tried altering many other settings but to no avail, however I do not really understand the meaning of the settings that i am adjusting.
Does anyone know what settings to adjust or know something else that might fix this problem so that sound works once jack has been started?
Also, would programmes that use jack such as audacity, hydrogen, and ardour work with pulseaudio as the main sound server if I were to install normal ubuntu - it might be worth seeing if my soundcard works with the puleaudio sound server
if this helps, here is the error message received when jack does not start when the normal duplex option is selected.

also, when i open alsamixer in the terminal for some reason the headphone part is greyed out, even when the sound is working before qjackctl is opened.
I've got a custom compiled kernel, just built on Lucid 10.04 from the kernel sources.System works fine, except for sound. When I log in as normal user and try to play a wav file using. The sound file is being played, but I hear no sound. However, when I do "sudo -s" and become root, execute the same mplayer command then I can hear the sound. My Sound preferences shows no input device and only "Dummy Output" as output device. On the generic kernel as came with the Lucid 10.04 CD, sound preferences shows different devices. The strange thing is: when I compiled my custom kernel, I changed nothing to the sound options in the kernel config file.
I have no sound, is it possible to restore the default sound drivers/settings in 10.04?It was work well before except for one issue, I couldn't get mic in for Rosetta Stone using wine. I have followed so many howto's to try and get Rosetta Stone working and then my sound working again.I think this is my main problem I upgraded alsa to "alsa-driver-1.0.23". I could easily be wrong about that assumption though.I have a Dell XPS M1210Ubuntu 10.04 64bitI think this is my sound card, "lspci -v | less"00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01)Subsystem: Dell Device 01d7Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 11 Memory at efffc000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]Capabilities: <access denied> Kernel modules: snd-hda-intelBut I don't think it is being recognized,
For a couple of days ago, maybe a week or two I beguinne to get a 'snap-sound' in my compurt sound, like an eletrick charge or someting. I comes with about a minutes period. I resently find out that it came from the center-speaker. I run Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and have this sound-card: 00:09.0 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP73 High Definition Audio (rev a1)
My speaker system is Logitech X-530 I have located the problem to center-speaker, but the snap-sound only disappear if I mute the center, not lower the input, in the GNOME ALSA Mixer. I have tried to disconnect the antenna to the analoge-TV-tuner. Has anyoe a similar problem, and a trick to fix it? I don't know if it's related to any recent update of the system?
