Ubuntu Multimedia :: K9copy Not Copying Audio?
May 23, 2010
I am using k9copy to extract the five titles in a DVD ISO-image to separate avi-files. I selected the copy option for both audio and video, and made sure all the tracks were selected. The resulting avi's played without sound in Totem. VLC gave an error message that audio format " []" was not supported.
I then did the extract again, selecting aac for the audio processing. The result was the same.
Again, with mp2, the same result.
The DVD contains audio in "mp2 2ch 48KHz 20bps" format (information shown by k9copy).
When I play the video from the ISO, using VLC, sound is ok.
How can I get k9copy to extract the video with sound?

I finally got K9copy to work and I'm using it to extract DVDs to my hard drive. I extract a dual layer DVDs it becomes a 5GB DVD. In the settings, I have DVD size as 9GB because I assumed this would not cause any compression. When I use k9copy assistant to change the shrink factor before ripping, I can only change the shrink factor of some titles to 1.67 from 2.50. I want the shrink factor to be 1 since this seems to ensure that the output of the file is the same size as the title on the dvd. I want the copied DVD to be the same size as the original. I have no problem with hard drive space since I have 6 terrabytes of free space.

I'm trying to use K9copy in Ubuntu 10:10 to shrink some videos from a straight iso copy down to a 800MB avi file. The video seems to copy fine and the picture looks fine but when I try play it in VLC theres no sound.
Is there something I'm missing? And yes I played the ISO in VLC and had it play with sound fine.

I want to copy one track/chapter from a DVD to an AVI file, but the sound is not copied only the video. I
- selected track/chapter by clicking checkbox
- selected 'MPEG-4 encoding' for output
- used default settings (codecs were 'copy' for video and audio)
- clicked DVD copy action
Result:
1. Movie Player: no sound
2. VLC: Error message 'No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format How can I get sound and video?
P.S.
Using k9copy version 2.3.5. I tried all audio codecs available in the k9copy Audio tab. They failed in the same way as before. The chapter list contains 'audio 1 Unknown pcm 2ch 48kHz 16bps'. I don't know how to interpret that. Also installed and tried AcidRip and Dvd:rip. Sound worked fine for both. AcidRip did not show any audio settings. Dvd:rip showed:
Select track: 1: xx lpcm 48kHz 2ch => 1
Codec: MP3
Bitrate: 128 48kHz
Quality: 2
Filter: None, volume rescale only
Volume rescale: 0
Again, it does not mean much to me.

If I use K9Copy to compress a 6.4 gb DVD to a 4.4gb ISO files, it heats up the CPU and the machine shuts off. When I do this with system monitor ON, I see 160% to 180% CPU usage. I guess this is due to dual core on my Gateway laptop. Then I installed DVD Shrink and tried the same by running DVD Shrink using Wine. This caused the same problem.I did not have this issue when I was using Windows Vista. Is there anything that I can do to avoid this problem?

I had some problems upgrading from 10.4 to 10.10, and I had to select the "safe mode" equivalent option in the grub loader to boot, or else my system would hang at the screen with the dots before the login prompt. I restored the packages and now my system works. I am not sure if this is relevant to my problem.
K9Copy worked fine prior to upgrading to 10.10, now it crashes as soon as I load it. I have searched but found nothing relevant to my problem.

I have a problem with K9Copy's back up system it cannot seem to shrink a DVD9 down to 4.7gb to fit on a standard 4.7gb DVD Disk, how to correct this? As it renders K9copy totally pointless for me.
PS: This issue didn't exist on Ubuntu 10.04LTS

Running Opensuse KDE 11.2 64bit. Trying to backup DVD, but no sound after playing ripped copy. After looking at the settings in K9copy and DVD95, the sound section says "Unknown AC3" where it normally says "English AC3". I've tried mencoder and ffmpeg.

In cdrecord's man page, EXAMPLES, it says:
Quote:
To copy an audio CD in the most accurate way, first run
cdda2wav dev=2,0 -vall cddb=0 -B -Owav
and then run
cdrecord dev=2,0 -v -dao -useinfo -text *.wav
Now, cdda2wav samples the drive output. But the signal is already sampled in the CD. Do you think this is accurate?

I am having a great time very quickly migrating from Windows through Ubuntu.
One area that I am still having trouble in is transcoding VOB into DivX, XviD, AVI, etc. I have been succesful one time using k9copy and it made a great looking avi. Since that time I get a failure on the 2nd pass. It seems as if the problem is related to the line in the error log "requested bit rate too low". So I changed from filesize to bitrate selection in the wizard and set it at max (99999). This got it to start the 2nd pass but still ended up crashing about 3/4 of the way through with an unexpected error message. Undaunted i tried again with the same setup and options. This time I once again got the bitrate too low error on the 2nd pass.
I have tried other GUI apps like avidemux (sound out of sync with that one), WinFF (not merging the vob's together), and others without satisfactory results. It would be great if I could get k9copy to work as it did the first try as it did exactly what I am looking for.
I have mencoder and all the depedencies installed (I believe). I am running a quad core amd64 bit processor and ubuntu 10.04.
It is just puzzling to me that k9copy worked flawlessly the first time and now nothing but trouble.
These are VOB's that have been put together by IFOedit from files dmuxed by DVDdecryter (under wine) stripped of copy guard. I take the ac3 soundtrack and convert it into WAV so that i can add a commentary (rifftrax) in audacity, then convert that back into ac3 and combine it all together again. I have been doing this for some time in Windows, and can now do everything in Ubuntu except for the avi transcode (really bothersome to reboot into windows just to run DivX Pro converter).

I'm using K9Copy 2.3.5.I've set the options to:And also tried changing the codec to MPEG-4 (DIVX 4/5)But when I select the title I wish to copy, no MPEG-4 tabs appear at the bottom of K9Copy to adjust the settings for each chapter. This means that the avi file created is 3.2GB.

I'm thinking of installing openSUSE-11.1 Gnome on a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo 7400M laptop because the wireless in Gnome is much more user friendly than KDE3/KDE4 in openSUSE-11.1. The idea is to give this laptop to my 84-year old mother and things need to 'just work' for her (she currently has a desktop running openSUSE-11.1 KDE3 that uses a WIRED interface to the web).
I refuse to update this laptop to openSUSE-11.2 nor 11.3 (nor other recent distributions) because every kernel update after the 2.6.27 kernel has broken the Intel i855GM graphics drivers for that laptop. There are many bug reports and none have fixed the problem for this Fujitsu-Siemens implementation of the i855GM graphics.
Hence I am looking at Gnome.
I booted the laptop to a Gnome openSUSE-11.1 liveCD and wireless is easy and works great. But audio is very very VERY bad. It is incredibly user unfriendly and it does NOT work well. I assume that is because pulse audio in openSUSE-11.1 was very immature.
I note these updated packages in the openSUSE-11.1 update repository:
Code:
So my question is, did the updates to pulse audio (in the openSUSE-11.1 update repository) fix the pulse audio situation? Are there ANY helpful views on this?
Currently my wife is using this laptop with KDE-4.4.4 (and openSUSE-11.1) so I can't just install Gnome and play with it without taking the laptop away from her for a while (note the hard drive is too small for a dual boot of KDE/Gnome).

to start off, i'll post the specs of the machine:
dell inspiron e1505
3.2 gb ram
1.86 ghz intel core duo
ati x1400 gfx
opensuse 11.4 kde 32 bit.
okay, here are the details: can't play any audio with amarok when desktop effects are enabled because the minute a window is moved, it will distort the audio. even when disabling desktop effects, some applications still cause this. can't play videos videos even with desktop effects disabled because of the same reason.
i just switched from ubuntu and when i ran version 11.04, i had to disable kms to do anything. i tried on opensuse 11.4 and the audio was flawless but the gfx went all to hell.

I am having some issues with getting Ubuntu Studio 10.04 to work correctly on my system. Everything works fine except sound. I have a M-Audio Delta 66 audio interface and my onboard sound is disabled. When I run the command alsaconf I can see the ICE1712 card without issue. However when I run alsamixer the only option it is giving me is my HD sound from my ATI video card. For some reason it seems the ATI card has locked the audio to it with no way to remove it. I have reinstalled the alsa drivers for my card and can only see it through alsaconf. When I tell alsaconf to configure the ICE1712 card it says it configured it properly. When I run the command envy24control it says no ICE1712 cards were found.

Is there an application that anyone knows about that I can use to convert either an .flv or .ogg file that contains both audio and video to just an audio .ogg file (preferably vorbis+theora) without audacity? I'm fairly certain audacity could accomplish this but it seems like overkill for what I'm trying to do and the computer I'm trying to use does not run it so well.
::EDIT:: I should also mention that I've tried looking on google. I did find downloadhelper extension for firefox which uses ffmpeg to convert the files but I don't see any obvious way to strip the video.

Using Kubuntu 11.04, I have all of my movies and music on a NAS, everytime I wish to play something (I have a computer hooked up to my tv this is how I play all media) KDE decides it needs to copy it to a tmp file first, I was unable to find a setting to turn this off and allow the file to simply play straight from the network drive as it did in M$ Windblows probably a dumb question.

I had a script before my machine broke recently that would allow me to select a folder then randomly copy MP3's from that folder to a USB drive. I cannot seem to find it again, the closest I came to is one called 'Randomcopy 0.6b' which has been modified for iPod Shuffle, and also the non-iPod version of the same script which appears to run fine but copies a bit too fast and nothing is placed on the device.

I just upgraded my Kubuntu from 10.10 to 11.04, and now Amarok do this with some audio files (some folders) Looks like is copying something, and that brings a dolphin window and interrumpts any mouse action you are working in that instant. This occurs every 3 - 6 seconds during the playback
It really **** me off
I cant understand the pattern for wich files is doing this.
When i try
amarok -debug
everything seems fine.
When i see ksystemlog... I cant find what is happen,
Of course, this window appears for 1/2 second, so I cant click CANCEL or Pause buttons or try to read more info.

I installed Ubuntu in Virtualbox in a Windows XP platform, primarily to be able to cross compile ffmpeg and use it in Windows. It's not been obvious, but I have a preliminary build in my Ubuntu system, that provides the following information, from the Ubuntu terminal:
Code:
FFmpeg version 0.6.2-4:0.6.21ubuntu1, Copyright (c)2000-2010 the Libav developers built on Mar 22 2011 15:55:04 with gcc 4.5.2
configuration:
--extra-version=4:0.6.2-1ubuntu1
--prefix=/usr
--enable-avfilter
--enable-avfilter-lavf
[code]....
Is it possible that when I compile ffmpeg under Ubuntu, the version I see in Windows looks that different?

I've tried pretty much every DVD ripping program available, DVD::Rip, DVD95converter, DVD Movie Backup. My favorite backup program is k9copy (easiest to use and has all the features I need). But no matter what I try, certain Disney movies just won't backup. Specifically, at the moment, many of the Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli films.
After selecting the disc, the program either crashes out immediately, or it starts filling up the memory, slowing everything down, until finally it crashes. I thought updating to the newest version would maybe help (not even available through standard "Update Manager", had to find it myself), but the same problems occur. I'm currently trying with ddrescue, hoping that works. But I don't really like the idea of using a series of programs to get the output I want.
Is there a program that can backup, compress, and convert a Disney movie into a playable/burnable ISO file? Because these films are Japanese, I would definitely prefer something that can output normal switchable subtitles and audio (as opposed to an MPG or AVI that just has the one audio track).
