I have my data on an NTFS drive. When I try to import pictures from this drive, I only get an option for the drive. That is, I cannot choose a sub-folder from which to import. I understand I can tell F-Spot to use sub-folders, but I have many sub-folders with pictures, and I do not want all of them in F-Spot. Is there any way to import a single folder with F-Spot?
I have also tried drag and drop, but I have a hard time getting that to work as well.
I'm having a very frustrating issue with F-spot Photo Manager, version 0.8.0-1. I've scanned the forums for days but have not happened upon a solution thus far. The application always crashes after importing photos --without moving the original files-- and will continue to crash after repeated attempts to launch the application. The only suitable work-around to open F-spot again is to delete the config folder in /home/username/.config/f-spot. But I can't seem to be able to "import" any photos into the library without the same process repeating itself. I've tried "importing" photos with "Detect Duplicates" turned off, but the same process occurs. Here is the output when launching F-spot from the terminal:
[Info 17:14:20.634] Initializing Mono.Addins Exception in Gtk# callback delegate Note: Applications can use GLib.ExceptionManager.UnhandledException to handle the exception. I've tried to eliminate all the different variables I can think of, but I haven't found a solution. This issue is present not only in Ubuntu, but also in openSuse 11.3 and Linux Mint 10.
I was using a basic web cam, these are the specs on it equipped with an SD Drive and in order to see the contents of the SD drive, I would just have to switch the camera to MSDC in order for openSUSE 11.4 to load the SD drive on the camera. Well, for whatever reason, it stopped working! Just want to know if I did something wrong. This is the spec of the camera from the USB app.

For some time I have been interested in life without a GUI, not necessarily living that life per-say but "interested" as a child would be about astronauts. So having taken said interest I've began to study it lightly at first, trying CMUS as my music player (A text based music player ran through terminal). I've also gotten a "Basic" (in the loosest of terms) understanding of how to import music through said program. Other than such, I know how to change directory, and see files via ls commands.
[code]...
I will sometimes elude me as to the full boundaries of it's uses; So I come asking this, amongst all of you does anyone live within a text based environment for extended periods? Days? Weeks? Years? What advantage does living a text based computer lifestyle give you against GUI folks?
I have a directory of about 1500 tagged mp3s (the directory contains a sub-dir for each artist which contains a sub-dir for each album which contains mp3s). What I am looking for at the moment is a player that allows me to import this directory once and then allows me to navigate the mp3 by tag. I have looked at audacious and abraca but either these don't have such a feature. How to me how to achieve what I need? I use 64-bit squeeze
I'm trying to get the f-spot screensaver working under KDE. I found the f-spot-screensaver executable in usr/lib/gnome-screensaver/gnome-screensaver/f-spot-screensaver, and the executable works just fine under KDE when run from the command line. I also found a .desktop file in /usr/share/applications/screensavers/f-spot-screensaver.desktop.
I also installed xscreensavers, and they all seem to work just fine, but I can't figure out how to make the f-spot version show up in control panel.
using 9.10 Karmic Koala I have a folder of JPGs. Rightclick on one, choose Open With F=Spot. A small window opens. Then a larger one, identifying the F-Spot program. Then everything goes away. Or I go to Applications/Graphics/F-SpotPhotoManager the same thing happens: small window, big window, gone.
When I opened F-spot this morning I got an error message, then it opened a new database - which has nothing in it. Reopening f-spot simply loads the new empty database again. find my old database and get f-spot to use it again? The new database appears to be located in ~/.config/f-spot/photos.db (I'll print out the contents below).
So, I was just importing some images to F-Spot, when it suddenly crashed. Now, when I try starting it, it flashes with some error that I can't read. It appears and disappears very quickly. Here's the output from the terminal code...
I recently installed ubuntu 10.10 on my macbook 4,1 and it has been working great. It began showing a spot on the screen, just a slightly discolored spot. It remains regardless of what windows are open.
The ipod works fine but when i plug it in to the machine (ubuntu 10.04) it always opend f-spot. how can i stop this? Note: i looked in the removable drives and media, and preferd applications, but nothing in there.
Having just spent many hours going through my entire photo collection tagging, rotating and editing (red eye, cleaning up etc), I am now sat with the window open deciding whether or not it's safe to close it.
I cannot find a save or apply button so I'm not sure if these changes are only made in F-spot itself or if I have to do anything else to make sure it saves to the files.
I DID check the option about storing data in the files where possible but I don't want to just assume it and have to do all this again.
I have just installed f-spot and it loads up and crashes. i tryed changing the theme but it doesnt work.also tryed a reinstall but no luck. this is the output code...
So, for work purposes i decided to plug my old lcd monitor into my laptop so that I could have my writing on one screen and my info on the other. So i plugged it in and opened up monitor which automatically configured it. Only problem is that now on my laptop screen theres big blank spots on the bottom and on the left. No window will appear there but for some reason docky will.
I am just trying F-Spot because a novice ubuntu friend needed help. ubuntu 10.04.2. As a test, on my PC, I have pasted some photos into a particular test folder in my current Ubuntu (in my user folders). I have also nominated a folder as a destination for imported photos. After starting F-Spot, I try to use the test (source) folder in F-Spot with the intention of importing the test photos.
I am using a PC with three hard drives. One has various distros installed, mostly ubuntu versions, all in their own partitions. The other two hard drives are ones I use for data, including backups. They are both continuously mounted. However, the import 'file finder' facility only lists the two data drives, it does not list the current home user folders, which is where my test (source) folder is(!!!)
I'm running Fedora 10 (2.6.25-7 kernel) with Gnome on a custom-built computer that has 2 gig of RAM and an Intel Pentium 4 2.4 gig CPU.
I noticed F-Spot and started playing around with it, importing and tagging pictures and the like. Problem is that after manipulating only one or two photos (rotating 90 degrees, that sort of thing, nothing major), F-Spot crashes itself. It doesn't crash my computer, just closes itself without warning.
This happened several times, so I ran System Manager at the same time so I could track CPU and memory usage while using F-Spot. I found that CPU usage spiked to 100 percent, but RAM and swap were never touched at all, notwithstanding the high CPU usage (RAM was a constant 289 meg used out of 2 Gig available, never changed. Swap was never touched).
No error messages or statements come up. Just the plug is pulled on F-Spot.
So, why is F-Spot crashing? Is this a known bug with Fedora 10? Would forcing the use of RAM help? If so, how?
Because of facebooks new photo uploading java thing that wont install I am looking into other alternatives for uploading pictures to facebook from my UNR 9.10 netbook. I've found that F-spot can do this but.. When I log into facebook through f-spot, it starts to log in... than just freezes while its loading and the loading bar says:
Session established, fetching friend details...
Does anyone know if you can actually upload to facebook with f-spot? Or why f-spot freezes at this point?
Here's a screenshot of where it stops loading at.. I leave it for like 10-15 minutes and still nothing happens.
I have been trying to use f-spot to export pictures to facebook. I looked around and saw some people's hanging on fetching albums or whatever. My login hangs on "session established, fetching friend details", and eventually gives me the login button again, which I press to no avail. I run f-spot --debug and get no error reports.
How do i get .RW2 tumbnails visible in Nautilus and F-spot.If i rename the photo's (made by my panasonics FZ28 ) to .RAW the thumbnail works but i do not want to rename every photo every time.i guess it has something to do with MIME..seems that i only need to make the extension .RW2 known as the .RAW is already
I have a pretty large screen setup (3 wide x 2 high), and it frequently takes me a few seconds to "find" my mouse pointer when I first sit down at my box. Is there a way to move the mouse pointer to a predefined location, for instance when I press a hotkey combination? Or maybe some way to flash the mouse pointer so it's easier to find?
I'm learning how to use F-Spot photo manager. When I click on an image thumbnail in the main browse box, (to highlight it), and then I click the "Edit Image" button at the top, - it doesn't display the image in the edit box. It displays a default grey picture frame (place holder)

I have just started with some basic analyses of GRASS GIS in Linux, and was wondering which commands I could use to select a certain percentage of rastermap values. For instance filtering 5% highest values of a elevation raster map. there are some GRASS GIS users among you all.
