I have Ubuntu installed, using transmission client to download a torrent.The torrent is coming down at ~300kbps, but my internet connection speedtests @ 50mbps...how do I configure connection to utilize connection?
View 4 RepliesI can only access the Transmission web interface while the Transmission-gtk client is running. When I close it, the web interface is no longer available. I try to manually start the transmission-daemon, but the process never shows up as running.

Anyways, one thing I have been noticing ever since I got Ubuntu but never really questioned, was about my download speeds. When downloading a torrent in Windows, I topped out out about 2.0 mb/s. Where as in my Ubuntu install, running the same torrent program (utorrent) and downloading the same file, I was getting 3.0 mb/s. I was wondering, what is it about Ubuntu that is utilizing my internet connection better? Only a hand ful of times have I ever reached 3.0 in my windows install (such as right now while I am downloading a game through steam).
View 3 Replies View RelatedMachine A is located behind client firewall. The machine runs telnetd. This is Linux machine with Python 2.5.4 installed. I do not know the IP addy of the router and firewall is not open incoming. outgoing firewall is open.
Machine B (Windows machine) is a server with well known IP address. I can install any programs I want on either machine.
The idea is that I want Machine A to open a socket to machine B. Then I want to hold that socket and use to run a telnet session from Machine B to Machine A telnetd server.

So, I employed the update. Problem is, I do not see this as an installed application. TRANSMISSION is not listed in any submenu under the Applications menu OR Add/Remove.

View 3 Replies View RelatedThe config file is ambiguous, and keeps getting overwritten when you restart the daemon in Debian, anyway.
In /etc/transmission-daemon/settings.json, there are these options:
rpc-username
rpc-password
proxy-auth-username
proxy-auth-password
Every time I restart the daemon with:
/etc/init.d/transmission-daemon restart
It overwrites rpc-password, and the password it prints doesn't work anyway.
Does anyone know how to set the password properly? I don't want to disable it.
I have quite fast Internet connection, 100mbit, and I'm able to take advantage of the entire bandwidth that I'm paying for. When I, however, use Transmission as torrent client and download a torrent faster than, 7-8 Mbyte/second, my hard drive is spinning all the time and my desktop becomes sporadically unresponsive, load average gets high and I'm pretty much sure the Transmission-application is the cause to this, somehow. It must be some strange way it cashes stuff...I don't know.
I'm, either way, not experiencing anything like that with any other torrent client in Linux (or Windows for that matter). It's not that I'm tied to Transmission, in fact, I prefer rtorrent and use it anytime I can, it's just that some stupid torrent sites are giving me Transmission as the only client option when I'm using Linux, so I have to stick to it those times. I have quite fast system, Core Duo 3ghz, 4gb ram, 500 gb 7200rpm 16MB cache WD hard drive, etc...so the hardware certainly shouldn't be a problem.

Every time I use Transmission for torrent download it throttles my Internet connection although I set speed limits way below my bandwidth.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am writing a TCP server in C, and the server listens to incoming client connections and accepts them. It then creates a thread to handle the client. The clients are expected to only receive data from my server and not send any data. So if I use a select() call with a recv(), I believe that the recv() will just block forever since there will not be any data coming from the client. If I use a non-blocking recv(), then this will just return a 0 which tells me nothing because the client is not expected to send any data. I am not sure if I have misunderstood some socket concepts, but I need a solution to detect when the client has disconnected so that I can close the socket and stop sending data to the client. As I understand it, simple ACKs etc are not captured by the recv(), and only data sent by the client will cause recv() to return a non-zero value, so I am not sure how to know when the client has disconnected.

We have several FC machines (from 6 to 12) that use an OpenLDAP server running on Centos 5.4 for authentication. I have now tried setting up a FC13 workstation. I notice that the authentication GUI has changed and wants me to use Kerberos or a TLS enabled server. Is there a way to get FC13 to behave like FC12 in this respect. Or (less desirable) what changes do I have to make to the server to accommodate FC13?
The workstation knows who the users are, but will not authenticate if they try and log in.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using two ethernet interface, in fact one ethernet interface eth0 and other is USB netconenct ppp0. I am using fedora 12 - 32 bit. I can individually use both connections. say if I disconnect ppp0 (wvdialer), everything works fine and same in other case. Now my problem is I want torrent client to use ppp0 and all other applications like firefox and other use eth0. So that I can use both interfaces effectively.
I changed in ktorrent client's configuration, and change interface to ppp0 from all interface, but it didnt work. When my eth0 id down I can ping using ppp0, but when eth0 is also up, I can ping via eth0 but not via ppp0 (ping xxxxx -I interface). What is I am doing wrong? How can I configure torrent client to use ppp0?
