Ubuntu Multimedia :: HDMI Video And Sound Is Not Working Corectly?

Jan 10, 2011

I'm having a hard time with my hdmi output on my HP G60-128CA laptop to my HDTV.For now I'm getting video only with the Nvidia 173 driver no mater if I'm on 10.04 or 10.10. In the 2 cases, the sound is not passing. Let me add that all the options in sound preferences are available and all the speakers tests i did whit aplay worked ( no error messages), and no muted devices in alsamixer. In all my web searching one thing is strange to me: i didn't find a lot of problems regarding the hdmi display output whit the latest nvidia driver

I have a ASRock and Ubuntu 10.10. Everything worked fine till I had a short circuit. I started the computer, everything came up fine but the projector I have attached to the HDMI wasn't recognized anymore. I have a GeForce GT 425M and a Panasonic AE-2000 attached to it. The Xorg.0.log has following entries:

Ubuntu Multimedia :: HDMI Sound Not Working With NVidia ION Drivers

Jun 4, 2010

I have a zotac IONITX motherboard with HDMI video. The video seems fine, but I haven't been able to get the sound working through the HDMI cable. Even the little speaker at the top is gone. It was working fine when I had speakers hooked to the motherboard. I have installed the latest 256 driver from nvidia. If I run 'aplay -l' I get this:

**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 3: NVIDIA HDMI [NVIDIA HDMI]
Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
lspci -v gives :

Memory at fae78000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
Capabilities: Kernel driver in use: HDA Intel
Kernel modules: snd-hda-intel

I don't know if this is important, but I noticed that it says its running an intel driver for my nvidia sound. Could this be the problem and if so, How do I fix it? Also, if I click on system->preferences->sound it comes up with a dialog box that says that its waiting for the sound system to come up. Why I am not getting any HDMI sound or even the little speaker icon at the top?

HDMI picture is no problem.I have made sure nothing is muted/not turned on in alsamixerI have tried every "profile" under Sound PreferencesI have tried Alsa upgrade scriptI have tried getting rid of pulseI have tried getting different drivers for the Nvidia cardI have tried Ubuntu 10.04 and 9.10At this point I'm at a loss and don't know what else to do. Has anyone had any luck with HDMI sound on a EB1012 or the ALC662 card?I have several other devices hooked up via HDMI, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC (Windows) and none of them are problematic so I'm pretty sure it's related to the ASUS/Ubuntu somehow.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: HDMI Sound Not Working On ATI Sapphire Radeon HD 5450

Jun 22, 2011

I recently installed ubuntu 10.10 on HTPC, after having a few RAM and SATA issues everything seems to be working fine, The audio (using HDMI) does not work. Have PC connected using HDMI for video (and I am hoping for audio too, this card is made for this and it has been tested with other OS) however the audio does not work, although in the audio preferences it shows to be using the correct hardware. Testing for sound under sound preferences does not play anything, acts as it it was, but no sound, no error messages either. I went ahead and installed ATIs proprietary drivers in hopes that it would make the audio work, but not luck so far.

The HDMI audio output is being detected, but no sound come out of the TV when I switch the sound output from the Analog Sterio Duplex to HDMI Output in the Sound Preferences. Ubuntu Multimedia :: Best Video Card For H.264 And HDMI?

Shopping for video cards, as I heard somewhere, is the kind of thing that makes you want to bang your head against a wall until you go blind, because then you won't need to worry about it any more... someone will be able to recommend a model, or at least a chipset or something, before I rip my own eyes out.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: No HDMI Video Output ?

Feb 17, 2011

Hardware: HP dv3505ea laptop
Ubuntu: 10.04 LTS
uname -a: Linux adventure 2.6.32-28-generic #55-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jan 10 23:42:43 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux
HDTV: Panasonic TX-L37D28BSA

I'm having trouble getting any output from my laptop's HDMI socket. I've had a search and can only find sound problems, mine is no visible output whatsoever.

Let me describe the setup: Laptop has a HDMI socket which I have never used before, HDTV has 4 HDMI inputs, I just bought a HDMI cable to connect the two to try it.

After connection I go to System->Preferences->Monitors and the TV is detected fine with the correct description and offers me 3 different resolutions. xrandr also works and gives me the same thing:

Code:

However none of the options display ANYTHING on the TV. The screen remains black, not even a flicker.

I have connected the laptop to the TV before using an analogue VGA (monitor) cable which worked in the same way with no problems.

Could this be an encryption/DRM/DVI problem? I have suspicions about the cable too because it is new and I haven't seen it work, but it wouldn't detect the correct TV description and resolutions would it? It was sold as an XBOX360/PS3 HDMI cable, is there a difference? It looks like a standard HDMI male-male cable.

Other things I've tried:
Log off and log back on to restart the X server
reboot

Some more stuff:

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Losing The HDMI Video Connection?

Sep 15, 2010

I have a Zotac MAG HD N01 desktop computer hooked up to my 40" LCD Samsung TV in the living room. On this machine, I have Ubuntu 9.10 minimal installed, and the system is configured using the XCI script (a customization script to configure the system as an HTPC with XBMC).

Now, since the original install, I've tweak it a little, and one of the things I have it doing is its booting into a minimal desktop using the NODM login manager and it goes into OpenBox. Everything works fine and dandy, however, when I leave it for a while, it looses its connection and says "Searching for Signal" on my TV. I can remedy the situation by just hitting a key on the keyboard (Ctrl for example).

This also happens if i'm watching, say a flash video in a web browser for a while (like a hockey game), and all of a sudden, the screen cuts out.I've checked in the openbox configuration, and screensaver is turned off, but I can't seem to find where to configure any sort of power management. Is there a way to turn off the, what I can only assume, is a power management feature?

Video drivers are the same in both live version and installed. aplay -l detects my device. sound/pci/hda/patch_nvhdmi.c already has my correct vendor id in it. Perhaps the following info can figure out what my installed environment is lacking.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Can't Get HDMI Sound Reliably?

Jan 23, 2010

I can't get HDMI sound reliably when using Ubuntu. The strange thing is, if I repeatedly reboot the computer, eventually the sound will work. This can take anything up to 10 reboots. Once working, it will keep on working as long as the machine is not rebooted or shut down. HDMI sound works fine under Windows.

aplay -l will only list the Intel (analogue and S/PDIF) hardware, not the Nvidia, even when it is working. Selecting between analogue and digital output under Sound Preferences has no effect on the HDMI either way.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: No Sound On HDMI ATI 3000?

Video is ok, but never any sound. I went through and made sure the HDMI is selected as the audio device and I upgraded to the latest driver binary.

HDMI sound works without the ATI proprietary driver installed, but the needed resolution is not available and the picture overlaps the edges on my 32" LCD. At least I know it is not a hardware issue. ALSA is loaded and selected as the sound manager, but the volume controls don't appear in the ALSA slider console.

I tested the cable and display on another computer. I am using a new Gigabyte GA-MA78LM-SH2, it is the integrated video.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: No Sound On HDMI Channel

Jul 14, 2010

I was hoping that upgrading to 10.04 would fix my problems with sound and HDMI but alas it doesn't. I have an HP dv7 that I wish connect via an HDMI cable to my HDTV and play things like Hulu, Boxee, etc. with the sound coming out of my home theater system. I know that the hardware is capable of doing this because I have Windows 7 installed in a dual boot and it has no problems with pumping sound down the HDMI channel.

I've upgraded to Alsa 1.0.23 freshly compiled. With 1.0.23 I see HDMI settings in Pulse Audio Volume Control. However if I start say VLC and play a video, check pavucontrol and make sure the Playback is set to the HDMI channel. I can hook up the HDMI cable and I can see the video playing - but no audio. I've been in and out of all kinds of things like alsamixer, gnome-alsamixer, sound preferences, etc. and I've toggled things on and off in an attempt to get HDMI sound working but nothing works.

In alsamixer if I hit f6 I see my 0 card as HDA Intel and my 1 card as NDA NVidia. If I select NVidia I see only S/PDIF, S/PDIF 1, S/PDIF 2, S/PDIF 3. I can only mute or unmute these. I've tried both - nothing works. Let me know what sort of output/info you need and I'll post it. Here's some info I've seen others post:
