Nov 15, 2010I lastly used KDE (version 1.x ). Now I'm using KDE 3.5 for several weeks and one thing really annoys me: there are a lot of programs that don't remember their last window position and/or size. They always default to a specific location/size when I close and open them again. I give you some examples:
Program that doesn't remember anything:
- Konqueror
Program that remembers window size, but not position:
- KMail
Nice Program that remembers everything:
- Basket Note Pads
Is there a way to tell these programs to remember their position/size?And a second question about konqueror: Can I tell konqueror to remember the view mode? I prefer MultiColumn view, but it always defaults to Icon view.
Ubuntu :: Gnome Desktop Does Not Remember Window Position / Size?
Jul 7, 2010I am running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.
The issue is that Gnome will not "remember" the size and location of the window in which an app was last run. For example - I run Disk Usage Analyzer and stretch the window to be the full height of the screen and about half the width of the screen and move it to the far left of the desktop. I then close the app. The next time I run it the app comes up in a "default" window size, not the size I last used, positioned randomly on the desktop.
p.s. I should add that some apps seem to remember their prior window size/position. For example OpenOffice.org, Firefox, Nautilus.

Feb 17, 2011One of the things I love most about SMPlayer is that it will pick up from the same spot at which the file was closed previously i.e. if I watched 20 minutes of a movie then had to go out, when I open up the file again it starts right at 20 minutes. I was wondering if anyone knew of any music player programs that do the same thing, I mostly listen to audiobooks so that feature would come in very handy. Currently I am using Rhythmbox.

Debian Multimedia :: How To Make Certain Windows Open Same Size Every Time
Jan 13, 2016I have been using windowmaker for some time now. I really love this wm, but I've one major problem; how do I make certain windows open the same size each time I open that program? For instance, I have a certain size I prefer for Pcmanfm, Vlc, deadbeef, and geequie, but every time I run them, they open anywhere on the desktop at all sorts of sizes. I especially hate resizing a video window when the video is playing.
I can do this in fluxbox, but I have a different set of problems with that window manager, namely, I can't organize my dockapps the way I want, despite editing the slitlist and some won't work at all. While I love Openbox, I can't get the windows sized right each time, either.

Debian Multimedia :: Xfce 4.6 Won't Remember Desktop Settings
Mar 3, 2011My Googling about this said to make sure xfdesktop was running. I have.Changes made to the panel, to startup and session persist.But number of workplaces, wallpaper, font, theme and so on revert to what they were before. These settings are from when I used Xfce before in Ubuntu 8.04. (My /home dir is on its own partition and I like to keep all my config files for apps I have used and might want to again.)I suspect I might need to delete a config file but I'd rather not undo all of the other settings that do work. Which? Or is it something else?

My kernel was upgrade to 4.0

then after rebooting the screen looks like where cairo dock's position is dislocated to the central screen. Also I can't edit gnome-terminal's profile such as changing font, and so on. Any place I can check what may go wrong? Or where to adjust the setting?

May 26, 2011I only just upgraded to Squeeze and am now running Fluxbox 1.1.1. The toolbar is acting strangely, though, and I can't seem to find a solution online.
An example: I open Iceweasel, Thunar, and Icedove. If Iceweasel has focus, its window title will be on the left side of the toolbar. If I switch applications, and put that Thunar window in focus, the Thunar window title because the most-left item on the toolbar. I focus Icedove, Icedove's window title becomes the most left object on the toolbar and so on.

Mar 1, 2010I'd like to make Gnome Terminal always start using this command line: gnome-terminal --geometry=92x49+0+0 However, when I right-click the icon either in Start Menu Favorites or in Application Browser, there is no 'Properties' option where I can configure this. Nor does there appear to be any option in Gnome Terminal Profile Preferences (other than to run something other than the shell when starting Terminal). Anyone know how make this modification so Gnome Terminal will always start in the same size and position?

All works fine except the next: Sometimes the windows appears out of screen, but this happens with windows related to the getfile function -for example: attach a file to an email, change the directory to download a file, seek some playlist file in "atun", etc.; so these windows appears in the top border of the screen, I can only watch the buttons "cancel" and "ok". I don't want to change the resolution every time this happens, so my question is: what should I change/edit to prevent this happen?

Jun 25, 2011I enabled Antialiasing in nvidia-settings and added "nvidia-settings -l" in a file /etc/X11/Xsession.d/, i knew it worked because sync to vblank works with glxgears and stuff. I enabled 4x antialiasing, allow flipping and texture sharpening in nvidia settings, i also enabled all instances of sync to vblank in nvidia-settings i disabled dynamic twinview i also enabled sync to vblank in ccsm and manually set the refresh rate to 60hz the cube is smoother now, but when i move windows around, i get slight tearing at the edges, when i disable AA and restart compiz, the tearing goes away. There is no tearing when i move windows vertically: It only happens when i move horizontally:

The problem is that everytime I log into the pc, the link does not work anymore as if the position of the directory was changed. So I have a lot of problems with the library of rhythmbox too. Mar 8, 2011After setting a new sid system with Compiz, I noticed the volume display shows a brown/maroon border around the icon. I payed no real mind until I installed Docky which really shows the issue. A solid patch of that same color on either side of the dock. When using Metacity the problem is gone, so I'm thinking it's a Compiz issue or video driver issue. I have an Intel chipset.
