Ubuntu Multimedia :: Aspect Ratio Error With Bombono?
Dec 17, 2010
I have a weird problem, which I suspect may have something to do with Ubuntu 10.10.
A while ago I started using a program called Imagination to create DVD slide shows, and Bombono to add menus etc. to the output from Imagination. Both programs worked like a dream. The weird part is, a test video I created using Imagination on 6/12/2010 can be imported into Bombono without any trouble. However, a new slide show I created today, cannot be imported - I get an error message from Bombono saying that the aspect ratio is 5:4, and not 4:3 or 16:9.
The only thing that has happened between 6/12/2010 and today (17/12/2010), is a routine Ubuntu 10.10 update. Does anyone know whether it is possible that a file needed by either Imagination or Bombono (or both) may have been changed by the update?
I want Smplayer to display all videos in 16:9 aspect ratio.
I searched at google & found a solution here [URL]
Its working, with Gnome Mplayer but not with Smplayer.
Smplayer still displays all videos in their default ARs.
Suppose I arrange multiple videos in Smplayer's playlist I need to get up from my seat & change the AR, every time a new track starts playing. This is really tiresome.
I have a video edited in Pitivi. The source files were recorded from a VHS tape, so it's NTSC size (720x480).
Problem is that when I render it the output looks stretched vertically. When I play it in Totem Movie Player, the aspect ratio option can be changed from "Auto" to "4:3 TV" and then it looks correct.
How can I render the output file with a different aspect ratio?
I tried going into Project Settings and adjusting the Video Output height and width, but this doesn't change the aspect ratio. Also tried PAL and VGA instead of NTSC. What should I try next?
Using the version of Pitivi that comes with a fresh install of 10.04 LTS.
I have a hdtv as a monitor hooked up to my desktop and this monitor is set to 1024X768 4:3. My monitor is suppose to be originally set 1024X768 16:9. In the nvidia X settings is not listed. So how can I change the aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9? My graphics card is: nvidia FX 5200 128MB (Ubuntu 10.04).
I have just installed 11.04 on an eeePC B602 connected to my LG TV over HDMI
All runs fine, except the video is at the wrong aspect ratio. (this results in everything looking too fat!
Running the Preferences->Monitor utility shows that I have 1024x768 resolution selected at 75Hz (good!, as that is what the TV manual recommends), but it says that the aspect ratio is 4:3, but I want 16:8
Running xrandr gives:
Interesting, the physical dimensions reported 828mm x 620mm which is 4:3, but I want 694x393mm (I measured it with a ruler), which is 16:9
The card is a Radeon HD3400 series
So, what do I do next, in the good-old-days, you could just edit xorg.conf, but it seems that this no longer exists.
I am guessing that there is an xrandr command to change it, but after reading the man page for a while and playing around, could not get it to work.
My laptop (which is without screen) supports the following resolutions: 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768 and also few other standard resolutions, but it doesn't support 800x480. I am using the laptop as a carputer and Xenarc 700TSV touchscreen as screen, which is of 16:9 ratio and the native resolution is 800x480.
Now the problem is my old laptop doesn't support 800x480 and It is not possible to upgrade the graphics card. The closest resolution supported by the laptop is 800x600 but the output is horizontally stretched. Is it possible to vertically stretched the desktop resolution so that when I use 800x600, it actually displays 800x480 pixels after vertical scaling? And when I see this 800x600 output in my Xenarc 7 inch screen, output is horizontally stretched and aspect ratio becomes 1:1 ?
I just installed Kubuntu 10.10 on my Inspiron 1011, working great except it will not save my aspect ratio settings, I have it plugged into a 19 inch monitor, I have set the monitor at 1440X900 and disabled the built in monitor, but no matter how many times I correct it, when I log in both displays are on and set to 800X600. How do I make the settings stick?
I've just got hold of a Trust 200 graphics tablet which has an aspect ratio of 4:3. My laptop screen is wider than this and when I have an external monitor plugged in my desktop is wider still. Is there a way to get the tablet to work with the correct aspect ratio? For instance is it possible in x.org to restrict the coordinates it can work within to those of my external 4:3 monitor?
I have a friend who runs Ubuntu 9.10 on a laptop that has a 16:9 screen (1366x768) and an Intel 4500m GPU. I'm trying to figure out how to get 4:3 resolutions to display in their proper aspect ratio (black bars on either side of the image), rather than stretching to fill the whole screen. This is mostly for playing older games in fullscreen. I've tried messing with xorg.conf and xrandr a bit, but I didn't have much luck.
I am trying to get video output with mplayer on a 64 bit hp laptop running the radeonhd driver. I feel in need of a little config magic. It throws up a square box in the middle of the 1200x800 screen. My config file simply says:
xy-3:2 utf8=yes dec@harriet:$ mplayer dvd://2 - The video bit says MPEG-PS file format detected. VIDEO: MPEG2 720x576 (aspect 3) 25.000 fps 9800.0 kbps (1225.0 kbyte/s)
[code].....
mplayer -vf spp, scale also gets laughed at. There is also some conflict because the agp aperature is over 4 gigs and the bios/kernel recreate one at 2 gigs. This is a lousy video combination (ATI card under linux - 'nuff said).
I'm looking for a graphics editor which will convert/resize the aspect ratio of the anamorphic images I create in-camera to their appropriate size. I'm shooting my images on film and digital. My digital camera is a Sony H50 with native 4:3 format. I'm also shooting with a Hasselblad EL/M with the standard 6x6 format.
Using my 2x anamorphic head on either camera will produce the following results: Sony H50: 4:3 > 2.66:1 (8:3) Hasselblad EL/M: 6x6 > 12x6. We're easily talking about 48"x24" or 60"x30" prints here folks! So I need to know which programs in Linux will give me the results I'm looking for.
I just finish installing 11.3. Everything works perfectly expect few issues with my display setting. I've installed SUSE on my laptop Acer Aspire 5920G and I got Samsng 226BW as my second display. How can I change the resolution of my Samsung display to 1680*1050? currently set as 1024*768 and I can't change it. Do I need to update my NVIDIA driver? if so how can I do that? finally, If I get this fixed how can I set my Samsung to be the main display?
I just downloaded Ubuntu 10.4 and love it. The only thing that I have a problem with is that I cannot change my aspect ration to 16:9 which is what my monitor is (its a flat screen in my media room).
I need my xorg in 9.10 to be in 5:4 ratio for it to display properly. Does any one know how I can do this. Can not update to 10.04 because I get frozen screen with activity indicator stuck in upper left corner. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Here is a copy of my config:

I'm fairly new to Fedora. I am using F14, on a brand new laptop. The LCD screen needs to be matched with a 16:9 ratio, or it stretches everything out. Unfortunately F14 only comes offering three options... none of which are 16:9. Is there an easy way for me to add a 16:9 ratio to my display settings? Does it matter that I am running in low graphics mode?..... it's the only way the liveCd would install.
I finally clicked on the upgrade to fedora core 11 notice. The upgrade seemed to go absolutely fine, but when I opened up a terminal, the aspect ratio of the text was all wrong. I tried "gnome falling blocks" - it looks awful.I have a 64 bit machine and a acer widescreen monitor. Fedora 10 was fine!
The installation was fine, after all the updates were done, I've installed Mesa-dri-experimental and then Gnome-shell.After I activated Gnome-Shell windows have some weird aspect (see image below )I've a acer 8930g laptop with a geforce 9600m gt.Do you have any Idea of what's wrong?I've also noticed that this problem disappear as soon I apply a theme with non rounded windows ( like Crux )
I have an HP w1907 LCD monitor and when i try to use it with ubuntu 9.10 it displays oversized in the screen. I have tried to adjust it using the preferences/display (changing height/width) but cant seem to get it right. There are no linux drivers for this unit at HP. How can i get the size/aspect adjusted?
I've scanned a document with OmniPage on a Windows PC; I've saved the images as black and white png and I can open them on Windows, but on Ubuntu Eye of GNOME gives me (for one image only) the critical error PNG: Decompression Error and doesn't open it, while Mirage, GIMP, GQview and F-Spot show an empty image. The output of a pngcheck -vtf follows:
Quote:
File: [...] (101408 bytes) chunk IHDR at offset 0x0000c, length 13 2480 x 3507 image, 1-bit grayscale, non-interlaced chunk tEXt at offset 0x00025, length 13, keyword: Software
I keep getting the following error when trying to burn a DVD, and unfortunately am none the wiser as to what it means:
Code:
DBus error
This is using both Brasero and K3b, the disk stops writing about halfway through on Brasero and a tenth of the way through on K3b. I'm just trying to burn a data DVD and have tried low & high speeds.
I am running Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit version. Want to capture a short audio stream from a DVD.
VLC has a command "Open Capture Device" that gives the user options for ripping (I think) the audio tracks. I made the relevant choices and got this message:
Streaming / Transcoding failed: It seems your FFMPEG (libavcodec) installation lacks the following encoder: MPEG AAC Audio. If you don't know how to fix this, ask for support from your distribution.
This is not an error inside VLC media player. Do not contact the VideoLAN project about this issue.
What is to be done?
I went to synaptic package manager and I have FFMPEG, libavcodec, and AAC installed.
I have the new Ubuntu 10.04.1 and I heard that the new VLC was released. I found out that I had to add a PPA to the repository, so I added it but I keep getting this error.
running ubuntu 11.04 and trying to compile vlc 1.2 from git. ran apt-get build-dep vlc, git for the vlc source, bootstraped fine, the error is on configure
ran ./configure --enable-x264 and got the error

I'm having a problem with banshee. It's doubling podcasts. Also it says that three different podcasts have the same size and length as each other(which they don't) Unfortunately I can't download to test them yet as my internets slow till midnight.
In screenshot 1 you can see the podcast doubled when viewing all podcasts. However when i go directly into the Desert island discs feed it only displays one, which is correct(screenshot two)
