View 3 RepliesI have a DVD with a error located at a certain time. Each time I watch the DVD and then come to that point Movie Player (or vlc player) returns a error. Now I want to rip this DVD but all the rippers I tried return a error at that point when they try to rip it. Rippers I tried:
- dvd::rip
- FFMPEG
- Acidripper
- Avidemux
Now I want to know ain't there a ripper which can read over these errors and still make a decent rip?
I installed the player from both the Add/Remove Applications and downloading with install when asked by Firefox, but neither option works. It shows as installed but Firefox keeps asking me to install it whenever it needs it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedOkay running on 64bit karmic 9.10 i have been trying to get this .ts file to play nicely on vlc, but no success of getting it work nicely what so ever. It actually starts under VLC and gives image and sound but not the way i would prefer it. I don't quite get it but when i start it with vlc it actually displays it with lower resolution this is HD file, as its a stream capture from tv but it outputs it with much smaller resolution about 320 x 180. Tried it with other players too but the only one that accepted it nicely was xine "but problems ahead again" it outputs no sound? the image though was and is what it should be.
Tried it with Totem too and it did accept it too actually "hurray! but with the same symptoms as VLC + it doesn't output any sound out from the file only the image is what gets generated out from the player. I ran VLC from the terminal and it outputs following data when i start to play the file:
[Code]...
so if any ONE knows what should i do, feel free to step up and advise me would be appreciated (thanks in advance) If this has value if's mpeg2 ts file. And no...the file ain't corrupted that much i know, but what could generate this problem. If it ain't broken? Seeking works nice etc... except the low resolution display.
I tried running .mkv movie file using Movie Player from Ubuntu but I got an error saying "pa_stream_writable_size() failed: Connection terminated".

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been using Ubuntu for almost one year or so. I use to have a good experience with it. But, since last few days I have been experiencing something nuance with my Ubuntu and most particularly the Exaile player. It use to connect to the Shoutcast server fine. But, these days I can't connect it. Everytime I try to connect it; it shows the message, "Error connecting shoutcast server". I have tried reinstalling it along with the normal plugins that use to work fine. But nothing seems working.

More specifically, is it possible to play, e.g., .wmv files with 64-bit Kaffeine (my favorite player) or any other 64-bit video player? If so, then which combination of player and codec should I use?

using Xubuntu 9.10 on a Dell GX270, 500MB memory, Intel 82865G integrated graphics. On logging in, I get an Xsession error -- unless I hit Esc, as soon as the initial splash screen (the one with a bundle of mosquitos buzzing around each other) appears. This is iffy -- I have to time it right. The .xsession-errors file produced has the following in it:

I'm trying to install Fallout 1 by Interplay. I have the .ISO of the game.
I've mounted it to a directory I created (/home/temp), using Gmount
But, when I use the GUI, and right click on the "install.exe" and choose Open With Wine. It just opens a terminal, than promptly closes it.
So, I tried to run it in a terminal. I went to the directory where the ISO is mounted, and used the command
wine install.exe
and it gives me:
err:dosmemOSMEM_MapDosLayout Need full access to the first megabyte for DOS mode
Also, when I mount the .ISO using Gmount, I get the error;
An error occured
Murrine configuration option "scrollbar_color" is no longer supported and will be ignored.
I can also open the autorun.exe using wine. But when I click the install button in the autorun menu, it says I have to install DirectX. When I click yes, it gives me the generic windows crash.
"The program your using has encountered a problem and needs to close. yada yada yada."
Choosing 'no' when prompted to install DirectX, just gives me a blank screen, with no response.
Push ESC three times, and my desktop appears again, and everything is responding.
I just installed a fresh copy of Xubuntu 10.10 on a penstick and everything was working fine at work and at home. Now when I got to the work this morning I connected the stick to my office network and I got this error: PHP Code:

I was thinking of creating an extremely minimal version of Xubuntu using XFCE. I have a Dell Mini 9, a netbook that uses a wireless-g card requiring bcmwl-kernel-source to work. What I would like to do is use either the alternate CD or mini.iso minimal install file to perform a command line install-style installation of the system. So far, what I am thinking (from reading this [url].... article:
HTML Code:
http:[url].....is to start off with these packages to begin with:
xorg
slim (if possible with 9.10, unsure if it is still available. in short, i want to use a lightweight display manager)
xfce4
xfce4-goodies
xubuntu-default-settings
bcmwl-kernel-source
aptitude
My opening questions are: Should I go with mini.iso or the Xubuntu Alternate Install CD (or the Ubuntu one)? If so, which one? What additional packages will I need to make the hardware accessible and fully functional? All I can think of so far would be sound (I'd like to stay away from PulseAudio if possible, it wreaks havoc with my computer), my webcam, and the memory card slot, if additional packages are needed for it?What other "core" packages should I include in this list? Should I include Synaptic, or other packages, and why? What do I need to take into consideration, since this is both a directly- and battery-powered computer?

When i install software with the install/delete software program or when i update ubuntu, i get an error.
I was able to update and install software a few days ago. But now i get this weird error:
Code:
I've been getting it up and running with Xubuntu. Xubuntu 9.10 just won't install--the screen goes blank and the computer locks up, with either the regular or the alternate install CD. I gather that this isn't an unknown issue in 9.10, so I'm installing 9.04 instead and I'll just wait until 10.04 comes out. Xubuntu 9.04 installs and runs like a charm. This is an HP Pavilion ze4125, with 768MB of RAM and an ATI Radeon IGP 320M video card. When I enter "sudo su -c "lspci | grep VGA", it returns "01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility U1".
So what I want to do now is install the best driver I can so I can make the most of the video card. XP let me use any number of high resolutions, but the Display icon in Xubuntu tops out at 1024x768. EnvyNG doesn't offer. anything compatible with my video card. I've tried installing ati-driver-installer-9-3-x86.x86_64 and ati-driver-installer-9-12-x86.x86_64, but both say "Extraction failed" (I was running them with gdm stopped). So, is there something specific I should be doing to get access to higher resolutions, or a driver I need to install? This is easy on my main computer, which has an NVidia card, so I can use the NVIDIA X Server Settings utility to adjust the resolution--but obviously this machine doesn't have an NVidia card.
I absolutely love Xubuntu, and I have it installed (9.10) on two laptops and one desktop pc.The only major problem: I can't play my dvds!! I've tried to open them with VLC, Totem, etc, but no luck. The icon appears, but says I'm missing some files.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI can't get Ubuntu 10.04 to boot for install (to my desktop), it displays the logo then hangs for about a minute and displays the alert dialouge saying "Boot disk error."I've tried multiple CD-Rom drives, burned from multiple computers, with both the desktop and server downloads. I'm down about 10 CDs and 2 DVDs here I've checked their integrity (md5) as well as checked the disk integrity from another computer (laptop) and everything passed. I got xUbuntu to install effortlessly, so I don't know what's causing the problem for Ubuntu. I can even look at the contents of the Ubuntu Server CD from within xUbuntu -- so, I know the disk really should work.
My system specs are pretty basic:
2 x Xeon 2.0Ghz
Tyan S2720 Motherboard
2 Gig (4x512) ECC PC266 RAM

why xUbuntu worked and regular Ubuntu won't, and/or maybe what I can do to fix this?
I just installed a fresh copy of Xubuntu 10.10 on a penstick and everything was working fine at work and at home. Now when I got to the work this morning I connected the stick to my office network and I got this error:
PHP Code:
Could not look up internet address for localhost.localdomain.This will prevent Xfc from operating correctly. It may be possible to correct this problem by adding localhost.localdomain to the file /etc/hosts on your system
Why did this error present itself if nothing was changed? All that was done was that is was tested at work and at home.
I believe I have all the necessary files, but nothing happens when I plug it in. I had it working with gtkpod in ubuntu 10.10. Any ideas? I have itunes in windows, but hate booting into it to do work. (I only use it for occasional gaming)

It even skips the live cd.I also tried to do it thru a usb stick but that gets ignored too.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy 4 GB 2nd generation Ipod nano will not mount to my Compaq Presario 2105US running Xubuntu 9.10. I get a message that says, "Failed to mount Ipod" with a description that says, "mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb1, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so ."
I even went back to my XP to restore the ipod to factory settings essentially formating it, to see if that would help, but I get the same result.
Is there something that I may have overlooked?
