Ubuntu Multimedia :: Anything Remotely Like After Effects?
Sep 3, 2010I did all my editing in after effects, and I'd rather not have to learn a hole new program, so if there is anything similar that would be great.

View 3 RepliesDoes anyone know or recommend some software or a script to remotely power on a PC from standby to on, or even better from completely off?
I guess the completely OFF to ON is much more complicated - would probably require an extra piece of hardware(?)
I'm not terribly new to Linux, but I am new to the forums, so hear me out! I am in the process of creating an electronic mapwall for our meteorology program, and have designed the computing system from scratch. I have two Linux Boxes, each with capabilities for 6 attached monitors...a total of 12 displays driven from two machines. My intention is to have one machine be the master...it has a touchpanel control. The inputs to the touchpanel will then trigger events for the both the master and the slave machine to display. Each of them has a specific IP address (DNS entry), and are not on a subnet.
Now...is there a way to remotely login to the slave machine and have it display on it's OWN monitors? The code is Java and which works on the master machine to animate directories of .gifs for each of the master's attached monitors. I will most likely have Java execute shell commands for the remote login (ssh), but I believe the answer lies somewhere in the X-configuration. Do I have the machines in an adverse configuration (creation of a subnet would be better)? Lots of questions...lots of desire...few answers!
I have a 64-bit four monitors linux machine. I was wondering if there's a way to log into it using a Windows machine and be able to see all four monitors instead of just the primary?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAs a former TVersity user, I enjoyed being able to remotely access my server on my phone outside of my home network to search for and download/stream songs. The ability to search for a song and download it to my phone (via HTTP) was my favorite feature. Looking through the popular media servers available for Ubuntu Server, I have not found anything that can accomplish this (they are meant to just stream on internal network).

View 2 Replies View RelatedI can't find the option for 3d sound, such as "Speaker Fill" in Realtek Control Panel for windows. I searched in sound preferences, alsamixer and pavucontrol with no result. 5.1 surround sound for movies is working good, so there is no problem with hardware or compability with ubuntu, I think. What should I do? "Speaker Fill" is very useful option.

I have an HP Proliant DL380 G6 server (relatively new), and I can't enable desktop effects. I'd think even a recent integrated GPU would be able to do this right? Why can't I do it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI like my wobbly windows, love 'em. Recently on the latest ATI manual driver update they went away. From boot, log into desktop, my pidgin window defaults to open. Can move it for about 1.5 seconds and be wobbly then the screen does it's reinitialize thing and the window becomes non-wobbled again. At any time I can go to System > Preferences > Appearance > Visual Effects and enable the effects and they work without issue. So, start up with visual effects, something right away turns them off, I can turn them back on at any time and they will stay on. I don't think its actually anything to do with my graphics cards drivers - those seem to be fine. Rather I believe it is a Gnome setting somewhere. I have tried setting my Visual Effects to None, rebooting setting them back to where I like them and rebooting again in case it was a corrupted setting.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have played around a bit with the Open Shot Video Editor and just download Kdenlive. I am trying to teach myself how to create and edit videos by inserting music, transitions, etc. However, I want to add special effects such as fireworks, explosions, get text to light up, blur, etc, and add sparkle type effects. I know Open Shot won't do this and it does not look likve Kdenlive will either. Trying to find something that will jazz my videos and almost give them a semi professional quality to them. Is there any other Open Source video editor type program that can do special effects like what I am looking for?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy new machine with a fresh install of Lucid boots up and displays the standard gdm login screen showing the list of users which looks fine. After you hover over a name or other option menus on the display, the pop-up or screen change is rendered poorly. It very slowly fixes itself over time. After I login everything works just fine even with the extra "desktop effects" I recently discovered that if I set the desktop effects to none, I get the same effect on my desktop. I've attached a screen capture to illustrate what I see but find hard to describe. The little horizontal bars will gradually be fixed over a minute or so. Dragging the window around smears that effect around the screen. I've been sniffing around the web off and on for a couple months now but haven't found anything that sounds similar.
Now for some hopefully helpful configuration data: This system is based on an Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 motherboard with integrated ATI radeon video, and a 6 core processor. Lucid 32bit.

I've just finished my new build and installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.I have in it an MSI N8400GS D512D3H (NVidia Geforce 8400GS) which I thought would work for Ubuntu. After installing Ubuntu the visual effects are disabled, can't even get "Normal" settings in the Appearance dialogue. Updates have all been installed. Apt has been updated. "Hardware Drivers" screen draws a blank. No proprietary drivers listed at all. First time I've actually used a Graphics Card in an Ubuntu install.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI want to remove GDM altogether, naturally I tried:
sudo apt-get --purge remove gdm3
But it appears to be taking some lower level gnome libraries down with it. As soon as it's removed, I can no longer start gedit or gnome terminal for example. If either is run from the terminal, I see, "Cannot display" or something along those lines. I end up reinstalling gdm3 and everything works perfectly.I already used update-rc to stop the gdm daemon from booting altogether, I just want to remove it now for a greater sense of cleanliness I guess.
I use skype and other video chat rooms like tinychat and have alway notice windows user doing cool webcam effects. I want to know if there was a program in ubuntu that would allow this.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I go to change the Visual Effects settings from Normal to either of the other 2 choices, the screen goes black and nothing happens. Could this be a driver issue? Should I buy a video card instead of using on-board and if so, which ones work the best with Ubuntu?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just finished installing Ubuntu Studio in my machine and downloaded and installed the Nvidia drivers. I was so excited about using the desktop visual effects that I had seen in some advertising. But first, I just found 3 options in the Appearences config none, normal and extra. Where are desktop effects such as windows trasparence, the cube an others?
Second, and worst, I enabled the "extra" options and found its effects pleasant, but I could not use the for any longer because when I launch Rosegarden with desktop effects enabled, Rosegarden's title screen appears and after that its windows doesn't appear. I found out that the problem is enabling desktop effects because when they are disabled Rosegarden starts completely in few seconds. I even made a test and enabled effects, launched Rosegarden, wich of course dind't appear, after that disabled effects and Rosegarden's window imediately appeared. I use this software every day and it was the main reason why I migrated to Ubuntu. How can I use Rosegarden and visual effects as well?
PS: My PC has Pentium dual core with 2 x 1,88, 3GB RAM and Nvidia Geforce 8400 GS. My system is Ubuntu Studio 10.10 with Rosegarden 10.10 installed from [URL]
I'm having jittery DVD playback, and I don't know what the problem is. I tried switching to metacity, but that didn't help. I tried copying the whole disk to local drive with dvdbackup, but the local files displayed the same effects. I tried mplayer and vlc, but no difference. Totem, however, is really bad with jitters. With totem, I tried checking 'Disable deinterlacing of interlaced videos', which I saw someone recommend in another thread, but that didn't help either. I also have all the codecs from this forum's how-to sticky. A video capture of the jitters while playing with vlc: [URL] I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop 32-bit.
