So after playing around working out how to install the latest ATI drivers as super user and finally getting it done, I restarted my computer to find out that the CCC wont open.If I run the basic version nothing happens, if I run advanced it asks for password then does nothing.

I have a small problem. I have two monitors, and in order to tell the computer to use the extra monitor for extra desk space, I have to get into the Administrative CCC. However, when I click on the administrative CCC, nothing happens. It's strange considering that the regular CCC works just fine.
everything was looxing great and then i then I clicked System > Prefrences > apperance. I noticed that in the visual tab no option was selected.. so i clicked "extra" and lost alot of effects.... now I cant get them back? ... I am using the 11.2 ati propriatary driver.. but if I use the open source driver my moniter's resolution becomes unchangeble and there is a disgusting pink line on the left side of my screen, worse yet no 3d
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've set up this new PC, the graphic card I picked is the ATI R7 260X, pretty good card with lots of core processors, high clock and 2GB memory. I'm now currently using the 14.4 catalyst drive, it works actually alright, though, there are some mishaps with this driver:
First my hdmi screen had scale down, leaving black borders around, even though the catalyst control said the correct native resolution, this turned out to be a underscan that fglrx does and I've finally managed to fix it. Other caveat is that the screen simply won't suspend or turn off( via software), DPMS actually works, forcing it turns the screen blank for some seconds but something does not allow the screen to sleep.
Performance wise it seems pretty good though, everything is pretty smooth, being able to play games maxed out on resolution and ultra settings, though, I still haven't tested out that many games.
The open-source radeon on the other hand, well its open-source, fully xorg and linux compatible, which is a major plus point. It seem it has come a long way, supporting lot of features and providing better performance in some cases.
Before installing Catalyst I had issues with mesa and steam, steam would complain about not finding the 32bit libraries, this is however a steam runtime issue, maybe it could already be fixed.
Running 10.04 LTS, wondering if there was a way to control fan speed using the open source radeon driver with a HD5770, it's currently far too loud even when not really being in use.
View 3 Replies View RelatedTo start from the beginning, I realised that I have no audio, so I tried a couple of fixes that I found online. Upon rebooting, all my graphics were very choppy (moving windows, scrolling etc). The sound is working though. I dont understand how fixing sound can mess with the graphics but hey it isnt working and thats what matters.I have an installer for the ATI drivers downloaded from ati.amd.com. when I had a clean install of Ubuntu 9.10 and installed these drivers everything worked 100% without any problems. Running the installer now doesnt seem to work. The log in /usr/share/ati/fglrx-install.log reports:

I just bought a 32" Panasonic LCD (1080p) and have decided to use that as my main monitor. Unfortunately, when I hooked it up to my computer, I had under-scan with both Windows 7 x64 and Ubuntu Karmic x64 (using a Radeon HD 4870 1GB). In Windows, there was a simple slider in the Catalyst Control Center to fix the under-scan issue. Unfortunately, the same option wasn't available with the Linux counterpart. I searched online for some answers, but all the ones I found seemed outdated, or gave me errors.Using the Aticonfig help command, I figured out how to fix the under-scan in Linux.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have already downloaded and installed ati's catalyst for my ati mobility radeon 4570 (at least i think so, since there is the ATI catalyst control center in the system-> preferences menu). The problem is that i want to upgrade its version from 10.9 to 10.10. and since i want to firstly uninstall the previous version,I get this:

Catalyst Control Center (CCC) is not saving the changes I make. I saw a couple of thread about this that had links to instructions on how to install CCC, but it still doesn't work for me.
I start CCC with 'sudo amdcccle' and the GUI appears. I can use it to make changes; however, it never saves them. After clicking OK, it instructs me to restart the system. After a reboot all the setting are back to the default.
I have installed CCC three different ways:
1) sudo aptitude install --without-recommends fglrx-amdcccle | tee fglrx-amdcccle.log
2) sudo envyng -t
3) sudo ./ati-driver-installer-10-2-x86.x86_64.run
In all cases, the fglrx driver works, and 'sudo amdcccle' brings up the GUI, but the changes are gone after a reboot.
Hmm, at the moment, when I click "Apply" and the "Do you want to keep these settings?" 15 second countdown box appears, no changes occur even temporarily.
I've tried doing a fresh install of 9.04, then upgraded to 9.10 (I have problems with the 9.10 command line installer not installing grub) among other things.
Maybe saying Ubuntu is getting worse is unfair. I'm not a big user I have to say. I use it more out of curiosity than anything else. I first used 8 and it was brilliant. I told all my mates about it. Everything work great. I had all desktop effects. I could use a KDE session. Then I upgraded to 9 and lost KDE ability but still had all desktop effects available. Upgraded to 10 a few weeks ago and now no desktop effects. Non of the above is a problem but I feel like, for me, it's going backwards.
I use an old AMD 2600 machine with a Radeon 9600. I used to be able to use ATI Catalyst but that didn't work after the upgrade to 10 and I can't seem to find a solution. Ubuntu is still brilliant but I don't like things being taken away from me.
First problem is that there does not seem to be any Catalyst Control Center available for this driver. Is there one anywhere for Linux for this driver? The graphics card appears to be constantly at 99% usage at all times when simply sitting at the desktop. Is there a way to bring this down to virtually no usage like it should be at?
The display area on my monitor does not extend to the edges. In Windows, I can simply scale it to 0% to overscan in order to completely fill the screen inside the Catalyst Control Center; in Linux, I have been unable to do so with a monitor. Is there any way to scale the display area to completely fill my screen?
I run Ubuntu 10.10 on a dual monitor set up with one direct to my monitor and one to my TV through HDMI. I run the screens in clone mode with the TV showing exactly what is on my monitor(same resolutions/refresh rates). My problem is that I have problems with software that involves any sort of 3d rendering/openGL. I have ATI drivers installed and catalyst control center. I first noticed the problem just after install where I am unable to see any of the screensavers that have GL in the title. My screen just goes black even in preview mode.
I started downloading a few games. All my 2d games work, but when I installed Oolite all I got was a black screen. So I uninstalled all my ATi software and Oolite worked just fine without the ATI drivers. The screen savers still refuse to work and I am not sure where to begin to diagnose the problem. I also notice alot of tearing when watching any sort of videos on my TV screen. I haven't found any way of creating a "theater mode" where by I get fullscreen video with full V synch on one monitor whilst windowed on the other monitor.

Launching and configuring dual monitor support that connects and expands my Desktop/Workspace when my laptop is docked works fine. However, it does not want to retain the settings after a restart and I am forced to set it each time. Ideas?
I have an ATI Radeon 5850 card with 2 17" monitors, plus a 46" TV via HDMI (disabled, except for BD plaback under windows) under Debian 6.0/Squeeze. When I first installed this system, it worked fine with all 3 screens (only 2 enabled at a time). Sometime in the past few weeks though, it's decided to revert to a single-display setup. I can't find any errors in the logfiles, and it works perfectly fine when I re-enabled the secondary display via the ATI Catalyst Control center.
The auto-generated xorg.conf isn't configured to use the second display (even after re-generating one using "aticonfig -initial=dual-head"), and it is not being modified when I change settings in the Catalyst Control Center.Updating display settings after every boot is just a bit annoying.
After installing Catalyst with VA-API began a strange problem with the sound via HDMI. Prior to installing the sound worked fine. Platform: MSI E350IA-E45 with Radeon HD 6310 and AMD Zacate E350 Version of Catalyst 11.4. After installing the sound is playing with a terrible noise Sample: [URL]... I already tried all the audio outputs, but this does not solve the problem. The problem occurs only when the transmission of sound through HDMI.
View 1 Replies View RelatedUbuntu 10.10 x64. Got a second monitor and enabled Xinerama. It asked me to restart, I did. I opened ATI Catalyst Control Center after the restart and saw the control panel window open for about half a second before suddenly finding myself at the login screen.
ATI Catalyst Control Center has always seemed to work fine up until I enabled Xinerama. I tried removing the ATI driver, restarting, re-enabling it, restarting, and ATI Catalyst Control Center worked fine again. But, as soon as I enabled Xinerama it went back to logging me out whenever I tried to open the control center. I've tried from the GUI menu as well as the terminal using 'gksudo amdcccle', same result every time.
The dual monitor functionality seems fine, but I need to get back into the control center to adjust the colors. I do a lot of photo editing, and the adjustments in the control center really is a great tool to let me get the colors how I'd like.
I realize that Canonical is not responsible for the Catalyst driver, but I can't seem to operate outside of the Ubuntu Classic (no effects) mode for 64 bit Natty, and I was curius if anyone else had encountered or resolved this.
When I upgraded from 10.10 (I was using the fglrx package), xorg would immediately crash. I was able to reach the gdm screen only using recovery mode. I uninstalled the fglrx package, and now I can boot into Ubuntu Classic (no effects) mode only (no other desktop will work) using the open-source driver at no greater than 1280x1024.
When I try to re-install the catalyst driver using aptitude or Administration->Additional Drivers, the installation fails:

On a Karmic desktop with a Radeon 2600 hd video card, my screen goes black for a couple of seconds when opening an avi (divx or mjpeg).The video starts playing immediatly but I only see a black screen. Using Movie Player, its a black screen window, using vlc or gmplayer or mplayer ,the all screen goes black. It does not happen if I use the ati open source driver (but then flash full screen crashes...). I just installed the latest ati catalyst (10.2) and the problem remains.....
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been working on this off and on for the last couple of days and I can't seem to get this working. I'm using the latest Catalyst Control Center (11.5) and I've also got xorg.conf set up for this resolution. If I switch the driver in xorg.conf to radeon from fglrx, I can get my 1920x1080 resolution (only on GNOME;the login screen and Fluxbox have a black bar on the left that cuts off about a quarter of the screen). When using fglrx and Catalyst Control Center, I can only get a maximum resolution of 1600x1200.

I just installed Ubuntu amd64 10.04 on my Gateway LT3114u Netbook. The video card on this device is ATI Radeon� X1270. For some reason the automatic driver installed by Ubuntu is not working perfectly, I noticed that because: When the "Appearance Preferences" - "Visual Effects" are set to "Normal" or "Extra", some very weird lines and images apear, and I can�t read any word as the characters are messy. But if this setting is "None", the system works just fine!
Also, I tried to install the ATI driver and the "ATI Catalyst Control Center" and when I try to run it, it says the ATI driver is not working ok. Any tips on how to solve it? Please consider Im a begginer for Ubuntu.
When I open an open office document from an NFS share it always opens as readonly. This was a problem I had on Arch linux and the fix was to change the locking options in the soffice script but I've tried that fix here and it doesn't work. I've seen a lot of discussions but they all go back to changing the locking options in soffice, has anyone got any alternative fixes or one that definitely works with locking?

Open Office works fine when I run the command "startx" in the Konsole but so far I haven't been able to configure it.
I've been searching for an hour or so and can't seem to find a concrete answer. My endgame is having Ubuntu successfully installed (either 9.10 or 10.04) with a fully working Ati 4870x2. I desperately need some help on finding the proper configuration of OS version and driver version. I installed 10.04 with the 10.3 driver package from ATI's site and it was a no go - I had nothing but problems.
I would like to have full 3d acceleration so I can play some games through Wine. This is a powerful card - I know ATI doesn't have a great reputation in the Linux world but I really hope there is a driver version I can install to get some good results.The rest of my specs are in my signature I need to install 64 bit Ubuntu to make use all of the system and video ram.
I had catalyst 10.6 drivers and then i uninstalled it (by running fglrx-uninstall.sh). After that, I installed 10.8 version downloaded form [URL], but when I open catalyst control center it still says I have 10.6 installed.

Despite the fact that the installation wizard says the install completed, nothing changes once I reboot.I read somewhere that it was possible to install it via the "Hardware Drivers" utility. Is that true? I've been having issues with 3D using the ATI catalyst driver since I started using Slackware (since version 12.2). I've had a few different graphics problems and through trial and error I've discovered they all start with install the proprietary ATI driver. I installed the Gnome Slackbuild to try it out, and managed to get 3D (ie. compiz) working flawlessly there, but for some reason I cannot get KDE visual effects to do anything while using this driver (although they work fine with the open source radeonhd driver). Any thoughts as to why KDE and the ATI driver are being un-cooperative with each other?
Secondly, I created a initrd and changed to use the generic kernel instead of the huge kernel. It doesn't appear the the ATI driver loads properly with the generic kernel as the 3D doesn't work at all and the output of fglrx gives lots of weird error messages about how the driver hasn't loaded properly (or at all)? So where would I go to make sure the fglrx module is loaded by the kernel?
I dual boot on separate HHDs. I have just done a fresh install with updates. I installed the restricted driver from the repositories, and I get an error message from ati catalyst (administration). Also I have "unsupported hardware" at the bottom of the screen.
Graphics card is a XFX ATI HD 5770 on this system, and I just sold 2 8800 GT's yesterday, and bought two more XFX HD 5770's for CF in my other system.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got an HP dv7t Select Edition. I dual boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu. On Windows, I'm able to do a lot to customize graphics settings and switch from a mobility 5650 and the integrated Intel graphics to save battery life. how do I correctly install the proprietary ATI drivers for Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit? I tried installing using the "restricted driver" pop up after first installing, but that caused my screen to go blank after rebooting.
Furthermore, is there a way to switch graphics what graphics card I'm using? When I'm at home I like being able to use the dedicated card, but when I'm away and need to save power, I would like to be able to switch to the integrated card. I don't mind having some sort of option of selecting what card to use in the BIOS or something, although being able to switch on the fly would be nice. Finally, if I make any changes, how do I undo them without having to reinstall?
I know exactly what the problem is here, I just need either ATI or Ubuntu to fix it! Default Drivers per Ubuntu="2:8.780-0ubuntu2"(Maverick) Problem with these drivers: Every game in wine does not look correctly..... After installing 10.9 catalyst(maverick) The games work fine, however when I restart my computer with these drivers installed BAM!! Dead X.....
So the problem here is indeed the drivers, the ones suggested by Ubuntu install and work, but the games screw up.....the 10.9 works with the games but not Ubuntu as you can see no matter which way I go I'm screwed.....basically I'm just keeping 10.9 installed without Rebooting so I can do everything with Wine....
And yes i've tried everything you can think of with aticonfig(tls=1,tls=0,--initial,ForceXAA,blah blah blah) you think it, i've tried it. The problem simply is that Ubuntu 10.10 does not have any working ATI drivers for Wine at this time. So I have to wait and HOPE that ATI's 10.10 drivers that are comming out will fix this issue. I have tried the RC1 beta 10.10 drivers and the issue still persists, not a good sign. The beta drivers did not fix the issue i really hope ATI plans on fixing this problem in 10.10!
EDIT: Fixed some typo's! EDIT2: Ok problem is fixed with the newest drivers, however I am forced to disable GLSL in order for games to work why was this able to be enabled with ATI 10.9 but not now? Hopefully this is fixed so it can be re-enabled....
