Ubuntu Installation :: Md5sum Mismatch- 10.04.2 Alternate Install?

May 16, 2011

I downloaded the Xubuntu 10.04.2 Alternate Install CD ISO file from http://mirror.anl.gov/pub/ubuntu-iso...10.04/release/

When I checked the md5sum of the downloaded file, however, there was a mismatch.

The md5sum given at both http://mirror.anl.gov/pub/ubuntu-iso...elease/MD5SUMS as well as https:[url].... is 209cfc88be17ededb373b601e8defdee *xubuntu-10.04.2-alternate-i386.iso but running the command,

Code:
md5sum xubuntu-10.04.2-alternate-i386.iso generated the following, obviously different checksum for me:

098674ad5a59f0115030c5c0c3973899 xubuntu-10.04.2-alternate-i386.iso

(It also took unusually long to generate the checksum- around thirty minutes.)

Is it possible that the file was corrupted or tampered with on the server?

Ubuntu Servers :: Natty Apt-get Update Hash Mismatch?

May 22, 2011

I keep getting a very frustrating error after reinstalling 11.04 on a 64-bit server:

Code:
W: Failed to fetch gzip:/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/us.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_natty_universe_source_Sources Hash Sum mismatch
which follow
Code:
bzip2: Data integrity error when decompressing.

[Code]...

I originally installed 11.04 on this system with the same disk so I'm confused as to what is happening. I have tried using different CD's and even installed of a USB. The memory test of the installer came back okay. The box has two PCI NICs that are recognized and functioning. The only package I have installed is openssh as this is a headless box. What makes this even more odd is that I have a newly installed 32-bit 11.04 server with the same procedure on the same network and it does just fine.

I hope I have been thorough enough in my search and investigation that someone can point me in the right direction. After reinstalling 3 times I am at a loss and I know 11.04 can run on my box without problem (as it did before the reinstall).Tonight I'm going to reinstall with the built in interface unplugged and the two NICs removed, I'm hoping this will prevent apt from bricking itself during the install, which is the only think left I can think of. I suspect the issue has to do with the nic despite it appearing to function properly I am unable to uncompress the archives in question on, my workstation, when they are downloaded on the sever but can successfully uncompress the same files when downloaded on the workstation.

SOLUTION: I pulled both NIC's and enabled the integrated interface and it is all working. I wonder why they didn't work though...

Ubuntu Installation :: Could Not Download The Upgrades (Size Mismatch)

Jun 19, 2011

Code:Could not download the upgrades

The upgrade has aborted. Please check your Internet connection or installation media and try again. All files downloaded so far are kept.

I thought there's something wrong with the internet connection in spite of that everything else works well.. I tried upgrading in different times in different days, I redid the process again today and I got the same error again. Is there any other way to upgrade or ignore this package?

OpenSUSE :: Kernel-source Mismatch In 2.6.31.12-0.1?

Feb 20, 2010

probably an obvious error so I apologise in advance - trying to install vmware player, and it needs the kernel-source to build drivers. I've gone out and downloaded kernel-source for my running kernel.

However it's complaining that the kernel-source (2.6.31.12-0.1) does not match the running kernel (2.6.31.12-0.1-desktop).

Presumably there's something I need to do in order to get the 2.6.31.12-0.1 aligned to 2.6.31.12-0.1-desktop?

General :: Disk Size Mismatch Using Df

Feb 21, 2011

When I run df command, the sum of free and used space doesn't tally up to total space. Now I found an explanation in this thread: URL...The amount of "reserved" space seems a little too high as OP of the thread had commented, but may be that's what needed. Now my question is is there a way to change/specify this amount of "reserved" space manually? Also is there a way where you can see the actual disk usage for every mounted partition including the hidden "reserved" space? Because sometimes this mismatch makes the output of df very confusing!

I am attaching output of df, and fdisk from my NFS server. The amount of reserved space seems to be close to 5% of the total partition size.

Question: is there some way to convince the LDAP or that client-root and server-root are the same?

I have downloaded the 2.6.37 version from kernel.org and I have extracted it in usr/src/linux-2.6.37/ folder.I have tried to compile it and install it according to the instruction given in the following web site and which I found very useful:ttp://www.digitalhermit.com/linux/K...WTO.html#INTRONevertheless, I am encountering some problems during the make install modules process as I get some warnings (i.e. The title of this post).I thought to ignore the warnings and continue by copying the modules in /lib/modules/linux-2.6.37 but this is not possible since at that directory there is no folder created with the new kernel I am trying to install and thus I get a msg saying: FATAL: could not load /lib/modules/2.6.37/modules.dep.

The warning message: WARNING: modpost: found X section mismatch(es) suggests to run a make CONFIG_DEBUG_SECTION_MISMATCH=y.At the moment I am running a make again and saving the output to a file so that I can see later on what are the mismatches that I get. Ubuntu :: Computer / Monitor Resolution Mismatch - Huge Black Border On Screen?

Nov 14, 2010

on a 6-7 years old compaq laptop, connected to a brand new hp monitor i am having a mismatch with computer/monitor resolution.

before i had ubuntu 10.04 which could only run in x's safe graphics mode - allowing for full screen resolution but with handicapped graphics - for example videos fullscreen would be quirky and run with cpu at 100%, something which was no problem before 10.04.

then i tried ubuntu 10.10 and later lubuntu 10.10 (which had exactly the same problem); the monitor is running 1440x900 while the computer is rendering to only 1024x768 - leaving a huge black border on right and bottom of screen. the gfx is still crippled; videos fullscreen is quirky as before.

Debian :: Aptitude / Size Mismatch / Weekly Updates To Squeeze

Jun 15, 2010

this is at the root of the problems I'm about to describe: Whenever I try to upgrade my Debian installation, I have repeated "size mismatch" errors that necessitate restarting the upgrade process. Since I'm using Debian Squeeze there are lots of upgrades to be done every week. Today, for instance, because I've not upgraded for a few weeks I have to download over 300MB of files to complete the upgrade. However, because of the size mismatch problem this download may well turn into something between 1GB and 2GB, as I repeatedly have to re-download files that were successfully downloaded in the last failed upgrade. What with my ISP limiting me to 7GB per month, I'm finding that merely keeping Debian up to date is using up most of my allotted bandwidth.

I've tried setting the Aptitude preferences not to "remove unused packages automatically", and not to "remove obsolete package files after downloading package lists", but for some reason I still find that files I downloaded in the last failed upgrade have to be downloaded again (and again, ...) whether anyone either knows how to avoid the package size mismatch problem (I can't change my ISP, which has a monopoly on providing internet to my area), or alternatively knows how to set Aptitude not to forget the packages it has downloaded successfully during each failed upgrade, thereby allowing me to avoid such a huge bandwidth usage on my frequent upgrades.
