Programming :: GTK - GLIB Version Mismatch During Installation ATK?
Jul 28, 2010
I'm currently installing GTK+ under Fedora Core 13. Before you install GTK+ you have to install GLIB, Pango and ATK. When installing ATK it goes wrong. After giving the "./configure" I get following error:
checking for GLIB - version >= 2.0.0...
*** 'pkg-config --modversion glib-2.0' returned 2.25.8, but GLIB (2.24.1)
*** was found! If pkg-config was correct, then it is best
*** to remove the old version of GLib. You may also be able to fix the error
*** by modifying your LD_LIBRARY_PATH enviroment variable, or by editing
*** /etc/ld.so.conf. Make sure you have run ldconfig if that is
*** required on your system
[Code]...
Apparently there is an old version of GLIB on my system bugging my installation process. Does anybody know how to get rid of this old version?

I attempted to run amarok from the menu and found it would never start there was no activity, I then tried to start it from the command line and I recieved this error..
Version mismatch detected between the NVIDIA libGL.so
and libGLcore.so shared libraries (libGL.so version:
195.36.31; libGLcore.so version: 195.36.24).
Please try reinstalling the NVIDIA driver.
This is a fresh install of Fedora 13, the kmod-nvidia drivers were just fixed I assume cause I tried to install them for a few days and they would fail. Well I guess they finally fixed the Nvidia drivers for 2.6.33.5-124.fc13.x86_64 but it has broken amarok..

How to update my version of glib in order to install the latest version of Midori on slackbuilds.org - [url]
Midori relies on WebKit.
When I try to install WebKit using the slackbuild script, I receive the following error:
I don't see a newer version of glib-2.xx on slackbuilds and I'm hesitant to install from source over the currently installed version.
If there's no updated package, can anyone provide guidance regarding installing new glib from source ---

Summary: Does a discrepancy between MySQL client library 5.0.x and MySQL server of 5.1.50 cause "inconsistent behavior", as reported by phpMyAdmin? The longer version: Windows Sysadmin taking the plunge into Linux. I tried to spare you all the rookie questions and did a fair bit of reading. I'm rather happy I was able to get CentOS 5.5 installed and running, configured iptables, got the kernel updated, Apache, MySQL and PHP installed. Then upgraded PHP to 5.2 after I figured out how repos and priorities work.
I got phpMyAdmin installed and running, then decided to upgrade from 2.11 to 3.3.7 but it keeps complaining that my MySQL client libraries are something like 5.0.63, while my server is 5.1.50, and this may cause "inconsistent behavior" or something of the like. So, feeling industrious, I decided to find an updated client.
MySQL-client-community-5.1.50-1.rhel5.i386.rpm
But it wouldn't let me install it as it conflicted with the default mysql-server installation. I also couldn't remove just the old client, to update to a newer one. So I blew away everything mysql on my server and installed the above client
MySQL-server-community-5.1.50-1.rhel5.i386.rpm
and that server file. I'm assuming I'm missing dependencies now as phpMyAdmin claims it can't load the mysql extension. Attempting to 'yum' php-mysql tried to install 'mysql' as a dependency, which immediately conflicted with the files I'd installed. At this point I'm wondering if I'm closing in on successfully installing a version that phpMyAdmin doesn't complain about, or if I should even care that it is complaining and just go back to all the repo versions of everything.
# rpm -e MySQL-shared-community-5.1.50-1.rhel5.i386.rpm
error: package MySQL-shared-community-5.1.50-1.rhel5.i386.rpm is not installed

I am trying to install syslog-ng-3.0.2 on Fedora 12 and have run into an issue I don't know how to solve. When runing the "configure --enable-ssl" I get the following "checking for pkg-config... (cached) /usr/bin/pkg-config checking pkg-config is at least version 0.14 checking for GLIB - version >= 2.0... 2.0, bad version string no configure: error: Cannot find GLIB version >= 2.0: is pkg-config in path?" I have glib-2.24.0 installed on this system so I don't understand where this issue is coming from or how to fix it.
Back ground on my system -
[root@syslog-ng]# set PKG_CONFIG=/usr/lib/pkgconfig
[root@syslog-ng]# export PKG_CONFIG

I have posted this a couple of places - The Bodhi team and I are looking for some help from someone that knows their way around C and GTK/glib. Firstly - we are interested in having an extension written for the Midori webrowser that would allow it to open apt: protocol links with the command /usr/bin/apturl Second, I am interested in getting this and this added to the file manager PCManFM as features.

As root, type "zypper update" and get several lines of the following error:
**
GLib-GIO:ERROR:gdbusconnection.c:2279:initable_init: assertion failed: (connection->initialization_error == NULL)
Loading repository data...
Reading installed packages...
Nothing to do. Used zypper dup to upgrade from 11.3. Still have boot problems (will open another thread), but had major problems upgrading timezone. File downloads would reach some percentage of completion, then B/s would slowly reduce, to zero. Upgrade would halt until manually aborted. Solution was to manually download 5 timezone files and install them in a directory repository. File download did not specify just the timezone file, but also a part of the directory. Could this be part of the problem? example: ./rpm/i586/timezone-2011d-0.2.1.i586.rpm instead of just the file name.System is a Dell 3000 (Pentium 4, 512MB memory).

I am using GTK and C and on my application I have a Drag and drop feature.
Code: Select allicon_view = gtk_icon_view_new_with_model(create_and_fill_model(pALP));
g_object_unref(pALP->list_store); /* destroy model automatically with view */
gtk_icon_view_set_selection_mode(GTK_ICON_VIEW(icon_view), GTK_SELECTION_SINGLE);
gtk_icon_view_set_reorderable(GTK_ICON_VIEW(icon_view), TRUE);
gtk_icon_view_set_text_column(GTK_ICON_VIEW(icon_view), COL_DISPLAY_NAME);
[Code] ....
The drag and drop works fine but when I exit the application and enter again, the changes of the drops are not saved, meaning the new location is not saved. I understand that in order to save the location of the drops I need to create a menu file and write some xml, But how do I do this? it there another way?

I downloaded the Xubuntu 10.04.2 Alternate Install CD ISO file from http://mirror.anl.gov/pub/ubuntu-iso...10.04/release/
When I checked the md5sum of the downloaded file, however, there was a mismatch.
The md5sum given at both http://mirror.anl.gov/pub/ubuntu-iso...elease/MD5SUMS as well as https:[url].... is 209cfc88be17ededb373b601e8defdee *xubuntu-10.04.2-alternate-i386.iso but running the command,
Code:
md5sum xubuntu-10.04.2-alternate-i386.iso generated the following, obviously different checksum for me:
098674ad5a59f0115030c5c0c3973899 xubuntu-10.04.2-alternate-i386.iso
(It also took unusually long to generate the checksum- around thirty minutes.)
Is it possible that the file was corrupted or tampered with on the server?

I have Ubuntu 10.10 installed and a few weeks ago I tried upgrading to 11.04 using "Update Manager" BUT I got the following error after a few hours of fetching all the files from internet except for one
Code:Could not download the upgrades
The upgrade has aborted. Please check your Internet connection or installation media and try again. All files downloaded so far are kept.
Failed to fetch [URL]
I thought there's something wrong with the internet connection in spite of that everything else works well.. I tried upgrading in different times in different days, I redid the process again today and I got the same error again. Is there any other way to upgrade or ignore this package?

I've made a linux app that I'm porting to win32 winth MinGW and MSYS. It's a ticker app that reads then renders a text file to a pixmap (a tall single-line image), then it kind of scrolls the pixmap by drawing a part of it to a drawing_area, using gdk_draw_drawable() within a timeout handler set by g_timeout_add().
The problem is it works fine on linux (the scrolling is really smooth and that's the goal) but the win version is choppy and uses at least 90% of cpu resources (vs 15% with linux) like there is a big performance problem. And I'm not even sure that double buffering is set. Is it related to some mingw config or drawing_area stuff or gtk for win?

I'm trying to install the latest version of tracker - 0.8.15. When I run ./configure, I come up with an error like this:
Code:
checking for getline... yes
checking for pkg-config... /usr/bin/pkg-config
checking pkg-config is at least version 0.9.0... yes
checking for GLIB2... configure: error: Package requirements (glib-2.0 >= 2.24.0) were not met:
No package 'glib-2.0' found
[Code]...
Surely the libglib2.0-0 package is some kind of replacement for glib-2.0? My understanding from the man page is that PKG_CONFIG_PATH is some way of linking to and checking requested packages... is this right? Can I change it to point at the libglib package instead?

I'm running Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.5 . I tried to compile banshee from source, which required gstreamer, which required glib >= 2.20. Of that, my system has glib 2.12.3. So I downloaded the source for glib 2.24.2 and I ran the ./configure, make and make install which seemed to run without issue. When I tried to run ./configure on gstreamer 0.10.30 after installing glib 2.24.2, however, it told me that my glib was 2.12.3. So I ran configure, make, and make install on glib 2.24.2 once again, rebooted, and then tried to configure gstreamer 0.10.30.
It still told me that my glib was not sufficient.
(configure: Requested 'glib-2.0 >= 2.20' but version of GLib is 2.12.3:
configure: error: This package requires GLib >= 2.20 to compile.)
I am doing all this in a terminal window, having SU'ed to root. So I'm lost. Any solution other than ditching OEL in favor of another distro?

I am trying to build Pidgin on my Lucid install and on running configure, I get the following:
Quote:
configure: error: You must have GLib 2.4.0 or newer development headers installed to build.
If you have these installed already you may need to install pkg-config so I can find them. I tried installing pkg-config, but it's already in its newest version. I then tried going to the following website
[URL]
and downloaded and extracted glib on my computer. That changed nothing. I was hoping someone could tell me what's going on here. I just tried the this:
Quote:
sudo apt-get install libgtk2.0-0
and got
Quote:
libgtk2.0-0 is already the newest version. 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
