Ubuntu :: Hash Sum Mismatch Error When Installing Skype
Apr 4, 2011
I have tried installing skype through synaptic package manager, downloading from website through software centre and also manually using apt-get and dpkg. All I get is the same error - hash sum mismatch so file could not be retrieved. have tried the apt-get update and makes same error. not entirely certain what the --fix missing does or how to run it.

Failed to fetch [URL] Hash Sum mismatch
E: Unable to fetch some archives, maybe run apt-get update or try with --fix-missing? I just done successful install for Opera and Thunderbird. just this skype thing I can't seem to sort!
Im trying to update the system packages list by doing "aptitude update", but I got a error like this:
W: Failed to fetch http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualb ... 4/Packages: Hash Sum mismatch E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead. E: Couldn't rebuild package cache
After searching the Web, I saw that many foruns seems to suggest to erase the reference list of packages using the command " rm -rf /var/lib/apt/lists/" and then run "aptitude update" again. I did that but the error still pops up.
My source.list:

Lately I have noticed when I am trying to install something I have been getting 'Hash Sum mismatch'
Here is an example when I tried to install Calibre: root@V-debian:/etc/apt# apt install calibre Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done
W: Failed to fetch bzip2:/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/ftp.ro.debian.org_debian_dists_unstable_main_binary-i386_Packages Hash Sum mismatch

I used deja dup to backup my home folder today so I could restore it after reinstalling 11.04. now, it starts to restore, but gives me this error every time: Code: Calculated hash: ac14ae0a7bf52c1ea0d851cec864df9e1c06b54e Manifest hash: 4173054c0b0c8ce1154af5b5caae2a7591652765
I keep getting a very frustrating error after reinstalling 11.04 on a 64-bit server:
Code: W: Failed to fetch gzip:/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/us.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_natty_universe_source_Sources Hash Sum mismatch which follow Code: bzip2: Data integrity error when decompressing.
[Code]...
I originally installed 11.04 on this system with the same disk so I'm confused as to what is happening. I have tried using different CD's and even installed of a USB. The memory test of the installer came back okay. The box has two PCI NICs that are recognized and functioning. The only package I have installed is openssh as this is a headless box. What makes this even more odd is that I have a newly installed 32-bit 11.04 server with the same procedure on the same network and it does just fine.
I hope I have been thorough enough in my search and investigation that someone can point me in the right direction. After reinstalling 3 times I am at a loss and I know 11.04 can run on my box without problem (as it did before the reinstall).Tonight I'm going to reinstall with the built in interface unplugged and the two NICs removed, I'm hoping this will prevent apt from bricking itself during the install, which is the only think left I can think of. I suspect the issue has to do with the nic despite it appearing to function properly I am unable to uncompress the archives in question on, my workstation, when they are downloaded on the sever but can successfully uncompress the same files when downloaded on the workstation.
SOLUTION: I pulled both NIC's and enabled the integrated interface and it is all working. I wonder why they didn't work though...
Using Debian Jessie 32 bit and Wheezy 32 bit on 2 separate computers.
For the pass few days, received the following message on both computers when doing a aptitude update or apt-get update results in the following error message:
W: Failed to fetch http://security.debian.org/dists/jes...ource/Sources: Hash Sum mismatch W: Failed to fetch http://security.debian.org/dists/jes...i386/Packages: Hash Sum mismatch W: Failed to fetch http://security.debian.org/dists/jes...ranslation-en: Hash Sum mismatch
Ive been experiencing problems with my squid3 recently, i am using 10.04.3 LTS. Configured squid as always have been configuring since 8.04.04, but its not working as it should be.Ive been having issues with bz2 files, in my LAN when i try to do an apt-get update, it just says some indexes could not be downloaded cause of a sum hash mismatch. If you check squid log, for that kind of file it saysTCP_REFRESH_UNMODIFIED/206 Google around i read thats ssquid cache keeppin the files more than usual, so i add this hoping to solve the problem:refresh_pattern -i .bz2$ 0 0% 60 override-lastmod refresh-ims override-expireI dont know if thats well written or not, but it doesnt have solve the problem, and now squid log shows,TCP_REFRESH_UNMODIFIED/304but the same behaviour of the hash sum mismatch, please if someone could throw a ligth in here. The only fix to this problem so far is deleting all cache and recreate it every morning, which is far from a solution.
I was creating an OpenGL+GLUT+Perl Simulator, and I got this error on starting it:
Error: API mismatch: the NVIDIA kernel module has version 195.36.15, but this NVIDIA driver component has version 195.36.24. make sure that the kernel module and all NVIDIA driver components have the same version. The app still works fine, but I have no clue what to do about this.
When opening the Skype .deb with package installer, I get:Quote: Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: libqt4-dbus (>= 4.4.3) A quick repo search told me that it isn't in the repos. How can I install this?
I was noticed the below error message when I was installing the SKYPE linux version downloaded from the official web site of SKYPE. Actually I have already installed the QT4 with the highest version correctly even I can used the QT UI for programming now. But still I faced the problem of lack of libraries afterwards.
[root@IT60 LinuxSoftware]# rpm -ivh skype*.rpm error: Failed dependencies: qt4-x11 >= 4.2 is needed by skype-2.1.0.47-fc10.i586
Bump: The skype is running fine by the below link. [URL]. This version needn't those QT libraries again? It's strange. In before I was using the version called "skype-2.1.0.47-fc10.i586.rpm" that also downloaded from SKYPE official website. But it's not working as I mentioned above.
I've just bought a new laptop (Acer 3810T - which has a "Core 2 Solo Processor) - so I have installed Linux for the first time in my life.... Ubuntu 9.10-desktop-amd64.iso - so far so good, I'm very very impressed and the operating system seems to be working fine. I assume that I have chosen correctly the AMD64 version then.
Fastforward to Skype installation, and I download the version (skype-ubuntu-intrepid_2.1.0.81-1_amd64.deb) - which is the best match as far as I can tell from Skype's website. However when I come to install it, I get the follwoing error: Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: lib32stdc++6 (>= 4.1.1-21)
I downloaded skype 2.2 .deb package on the skype website and tried to install it via sudo dpkg -i skype-debian_2.2.0.25-1_i386.deb and got the following errors:
[code]...
What does the error mean? I am guessing I have a faulty package. old skype can't be used due to segmentation fault error, so I am really hoping for the new upgrade to solve my skype problem.
I tried to install skype: apt-get install skype but I got the following error: Failed to fetch cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 6.0.1a _Squeeze_ - Official i386 DVD Binary-1 20110322-15:11]/pool/main/q/qt4-x11/libqtgui4_4.6.3-4_i386.deb Hash Sum mismatch
When I try to update my software through update manager, I get this error: W: Failed to fetch [URL] Size mismatch As a side note, when I enter Update Manager, it does not show 10.10 as an available update. I have checked my settings. I am quite kurfluddled by all of this.
after installing thunderbird my computer was unable to load linux (fedora 13) while loading it reaches the blue screen with logo and halts. it didnt respond to any button. then i went to a single user by Ctrl+Alt+F1 because im a total newbie and thinking that video driver is missing, i installed nvidia using yum! but the problem remains. now entering startx gives:
API mismatch: the nvidia kernel module has version 195.36.24, but this nvidia driver component has version 260.19.12. there is always this error: no display specified/etc/X11/xorg.cof file has Driver "nvidia" in the Section "Device", but it is supposed to be "nv", because it was so previously. manually editing this doesnt help.
1). is it possible to "unyum" what i did and get back the driver i used to have? 2). how can i get the display working? 3). were there any known to you cases when thunderbird could mess up display drivers?
we have postgresql database in our server. when i tried to install our application it throws some error like "org.postgresql.util.PSQLException: ERROR: encoding UTF8 does not match locale en_US Detail: The chosen LC_CTYPE setting requires encoding LATIN1". the locale which is set in our server is
uname -r prints 2.6.18-164.el5 Yum install kernel-headers/kernel-devel gives me 2.6.18-194 When trying to run virtualbox I get an error: Kernel Driver not installed: (rc=-1908) Please reinstall the kernel module by running "/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup" as root...
/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup Stopping VirtualBox kernel modules [OK] Uninstalling old VirtualBox DKMS kernel modules [OK] Trying to register the VirtualBox kernel modules using DKMS Error! [FAILED] (Failed, trying without DKMS) Recompiling VirtualBox kernel modules [FAILED] (Look at /var/log/vbox-install.log to find out what went wrong)
I'm assuming the setup program is using the output from uname -r to determine the kernel, the problem is the kernel sources I've got from yum do not jibe with the uname value.
I am compiling the code has hash_map getting following error

I have some problems with CentOS 5.4 and standard kernel 2.6.32.7, which I need for realtime extensions. With the solution in this thread: [URL] I could boot the new standard kernel , There are still two error messages during the boot process:
I'm tring to run AMDOverdriveCtrl, since they don't have an RPM file for Fedora i tried to compile from source i followed the instruction in the readme files run the make command
and tried to run the application, and i get this error message
Code:

whenever I try to open my repo's I get the following error message
Code: There were errors while restoring the repository configuration.Parse error: repoindex.xml[12] Opening and ending tag mismatch: meta line 11 and head does any one know what that means...
I am in the process of re-DL-ing the ISO as the checksums didn't match.
Mind you, that was with a shell extension in Win-Lose. Who knows.
Anyway:
I have the ISO (that I had previously) on a USB courtesy of UNetBootIn. All appears well until, quite quickly, I receive an error after the loading process which goes something like:
Code: Error: cannot find disk at [hash-code - looks like 0ace5f etc etc, is about 12 char's in length.]Something very similar (but not same error I think) happened when I tried to do the same with my OpenSolaris or Fedora install. I.e., gets as far as the very beginning of the loader and then: bork.
At least one of them said "will reboot in 120 secs". Saves me the trouble!
nits@nits-desktop:/mnt/Storage/Tors/Incomp$ btdownloadcurses --check_hashes 1 filename.torrent /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/BitTorrent/Storage.py:4: DeprecationWarning: the sha module is deprecated; use the hashlib module instead from sha import sha
These errors occurred during execution:
[09:37:48] IOError - [Errno 5] Input/output error
Got this error when I tried hash checking, was downloading the file using rtorrent when there was a sudden powercut and my system shutdown abruptly, tried restarting the torrent and kept encountering problems while restarting.
I've made several attempts to install GIMP 2.7 (by compiling) to get layer group functionality, but the results were too buggy and I'd like to go back to 2.6. I installed gimp 2.6 again via apt-get, but it won't load, giving the error:
Code: Libgimp version mismatch! The GIMP binary cannot run with a libgimp version
I noticed that many people, as well as me, want to install skype on 8.04. I found many tutorials with lots of dependences and terminal commands. So i found a better solution how to install.
1. Go to Skype's download site: Latest 2.1 version - click here
2. Download Static (5th type, little skype cube), i didn't test any others so maybe some of them work
3. Save .tar.bz2 (26,3 MB)
4. Extract
5. Open the folder and run Skype.exe
6. Done, just type your username and password
I'm using this version, i had no problems with chat and calling. Also options and pop-ups work.
I'm running RHEL 5. When using the GUI System>Administration>Users and Groups, I get the error: The user database cannot be read. This problem is most likely caused by a mismatch between /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow or /etc/group and /etc/gshadow. The program will exit now.
Some research showed that I need to use vipw and vigr respectively to find an inconsistency between these two sets, which I did - to make it easy I copied each from [vipw | vigr] to an excel file and did =exact(%1, %2). There are no inconsistencies.
