I'm seeking for a site to manually download the source of the kernel 2.6.31-14-generic for Ubuntu 9.10. I did search through the addresses listed in my /etc/apt/sources.list file but that was of no help. So could somebody please give me a precise address to download from?

So far, I feel that Ubuntu flows the best out of them all, offering the best mix of user-friendliness, eye-candy, and performance. HOWEVER, I really like doing things from the ground up and like having complete control over what I am using/spending resources on. OpenSuse was very attractive to me because of it's [URL]... which allows you to start with a basic system and add, manually, each and every package you want so you get exactly what you want. Does Ubuntu offer any system like this? Or, alternately, is there a "barebone" download in which you get basically a command line with networking and can apt-get all of the packages you want?

In order to do this, I've had to upgrade every one of it's dependencies because they've all had minor upgrades from the versions I already have installed.

Desperation has set in and hence you get to view a thread with this title. I think the title explains it all. Or, what can be done when packages are no longer available through the repository but installing them from RMP is boarder line crazy.

Of these, only libnetpacket-perl is not packaged for Ubuntu 9.10 karmic.

I am following this guide to installing eclipse via terminal command-line on Linux. However, this seems to be happening lately with all the packages I try to install..I checked the Synaptic Package Manager and reloaded and rebooted the computer, but to no avail.

I simply want that the war file from sources is transferred to the web app of my tomcat server through RPM. I try to package it as an RPM, but its always giving me errors in %build stage. When I try to remove %build from stage from the spec file, then it says command missing.

For example:
For a package foo v5, somewhere in the spec file:
"Requires: foo >= 4"
I'm declaring this on the Requires tag of the spec file, but when I try to install or upgrade the package (without having the previous required version installed) I get no dependency error! As for other dependencies it all works fine. If, instead, I create a package named "bar" that "Requires: foo >= 4", when installing I do get the expected dependency error. I'm thinking it's not possible to require an old version of the same package.
Whenever I boot into Ubuntu Karmic, the visual effects are turned off and any window I open has no title bar.The cursor keeps displaying the Busy wheel, even if nothing's happening. I have to go into Appearances and manually set my visual effects.I don't know how this happened, but it started around the time I installed CompizConfig.Karmic Koala, 1.6GHZ Intel Atom processor, 1GB RAM, dual-booting with Windows XP.
