I am using the main menu, not the main menu bar thing and when I click on the Ubuntu logo it responds okay but when I go to some of the sub-menus it lags except the Sound and Video one. That one works just fine.

Upon reboot noticed my main menu, system menu and places menu are gone. Other icons and stuff like power button remain on the top toolbar but again, no menus.Googling around I found solutions that were years old and/or did not work for me (like installing XFCE - which did nothing).

View 5 Replies View Relatedthis happens with both VLC and Totem, when in either of those programs playing a video, if I click on one of the top menus, say View in Totem, the video stays on top of the drop down options. In order to see the options I have to hover over them with the mouse at which point they become momentarily visible. I read a post somewhere where someone had a similar problem and it was solved by reinstalling Compiz, but I've tried uninstalling it entirely, reinstalling it, etc. and none of it works. It doesn't happen with flash videos in firefox, it does happen with visualisations in Totem, and it only started happening since I upgraded to 11.04.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter installing proprietary graphics drivers for AMD A-50 APU graphics performance has been greatly increased. But two new problems have come up.
1. While playing video files clicking menus doesn't show anything, the video forcibly overrides the menus.
2. Videos always take the focus over other windows and applications.
For example, see the attached screenshot where actually terminal should come to the focus, but the video is overriding it.
Actually the sound works when I install ubuntu in virtalbox but if I install ubuntu as a main operating system in my PC the sound didn't work.

After reading complete thread i just off vlc and then start installing software with instructions given in the thread. When google earth installed. i just use google earth only 10 minutes and then again play a song. then vlc looks like this. Screenshot.png and no video playing. no main menu show. What it happen? i try to remove it. sudo apt-get remove vlc and again install it sudo apt-get install vlc

When I play large HD videos in mplayer, the video and sound frequently get out of sync, and the video plays a little strangely (occasionally speeding up and occasionally slowing down).
I think it's because mplayer is only running on a single core. As I've got a quad-core processor, it seems inefficient. I've seen that there is theoretically a way to get mplayer to work with multicore setups, but it requires compiling with different options. That'd take me a little while to work through.
Ideally there would be a pre-compiled version in the software centre, or a player which has support built in (again, ideally in the software centre). Is there such a thing available?
i have a problem with the flash videos, i have installed the new version of ubuntu 10.10, twice, and the problem persist, i have proved with the flash-plugin and de adobe flashplugin, but i don't have any result, i have an intel dual core 2.5, with a geforce 9500gt of 1gb, i probed installing the swf and gnash, but the ..... videos can see now but the facebook and other sites can see it with this programs, i have tried to disabling the compiz efects and nothing, and the option of other posts of disable the hardware aceleration i can't select it because this problem don't let me see the configuration opcion of the flash videos.

I have looked into the fixes of the 64bit MMPEG upgrades and gone through what steps I can find to fix the problem, although even after going through the re-compile in konsole, as well as then removing it and trying again using K Package Manager, I still have no Audio with my Video when recording in Cheese.Cheese records the video in ogv format, and I have attempted to convert the ogv file to avi format using VLC. I am able to watch the video in both VLC and Dragon Player... but no sound, just video. I have used Cheese to record video's using Ubuntu 8.10 onwards, but my current Kubuntu 10.04.01 (and when I had 10.04) has no sound in the recordings. I have not changed microphone, and I have checked all my connections. I can hear voice in the speakers through the microphone. I am using on board sound, which I have no other issues with. The error message I get tells me that my MMPEG install lacks the AAC Audio Codec.
my vlc player suddenly decided to start de-syncing my sound and video. Switching vlc to asla output corrects this, but also makes the player go mute whenever you pause and resume a video. Totem is still working fine, but I really like vlc.

I just tried watching a video and whenever someone said something, the sound was a full word behind the movement of the mouth.
This never happened until recently. I think there was an update to the sound drivers a couple weeks back, but I'm not too sure.
I have set Audio Output Module to ALSA, but there is not sound either. Same result with AviPlayer, video but no sound. The log of AviPlayer is:

This is true for .flv, .avi, .mov, and .mp4, at least. This is true in both vlc and movie player. Thumbnails generated from frames in the videos appear correctly in nautilus. Videos play fine in firefox, on ....., but I downloaded one as an .flv and then it had the same problem. I have restricted extras freshly installed. My "Ubuntu 9.10 - the Karmic Koala" system is fully updated. I've found several other forum posts about the same kind of problem, but I couldn't find anything helpful in them (like that the contrast setting might be WAY out of whack, which it wasn't, or that nvidia drivers needed to be updated or reinstalled, which I don't have anyway, etc).

I use Exaile to play music (if that matters), and after I play music, no sound comes out of videos (not just Ubuntu, it won't work from Yahoo or MSN videos either). Then when I try to go back to playing my music on Exaile, no sound will come out of that. Likewise, if I restart the computer... the sound works again. If I instead watch a video first, there will be sound -- but as soon as I try to play music from Exaile, nothing comes out.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am, however, still having issues with the operating system: namely with sound. In the beginning after the 184 updates and solving the screen resolution issue, I found that I had NO SOUND despite the fact that video runs like a dream.
About a week after installation, I found that I had sound . I then proceeded to solve the screensaver issue by removing the Gnome screensaver and installing xscreensaver. After this, AGAIN NO SOUND!! (I'm not sure whether solving the screensaver issue has affected the sound that I'd previously had.)
I also use the KFCE desktop.
Below are the specs for my netbook if it's of any use:
Notebook:
