I have linux mint on my Macbook but it is almost exactly like ubuntu, so here goes. I have a Macbook, about a year old, and when i use linux, the wireless card is not detected. Any site to download drivers at?
View 2 RepliesAluminum Unibody macbook, the only aluminum macbook to date. It has a Broadcom chip in it and I installed the STA drivers. The first day it seemed to work fine. Then I noticed pages stopped loading. The max throughput I get is like 30KiB/s once in a while. Sometimes I see consistent speeds of 600B/S...this really sucks. Is there a fix or anything?
I was going to make the switch slowly to 10.10 full-time, but the wireless issue is bothering me. The keyboard brightness keys don't work natively, but there's a fix I saw but didn't have time to implement earlier. I like ubuntu but I don't like my wireless not working!
Just installed Karmic Koala on my Intel Macbook via Virtualbox and cannot get wireless working. Previously did this with 9.04 and everything worked. Do I need to use ndiswrapper? I don't remember having to do that before.

I have searched and have not found anything specific to my issue. I am currently using NDISWrapper to load the bcmwl15 driver and when it's active it works beautifully.Problem is sometimes at boot, the card doesn't "turn on" and I don't know how else to describe it. The OS does not even detect that the hardware is present. I have disabled wireless hotkey in BIOS. The only way to make the wireless card "active" is to reboot with the wiredconnection to the router. After doing that the wireless card "wakes up" and works awesome.Is there anything I can do to make sure the driver load at boot?mes I get the error that NDISWrapper is not modprobbed when I go to network configuration and if I wish to do i now? I don't know if that has anything to do with the boot sequence. Using the <modprobe ndiswrapper> command as root does nothing permanant

View 7 Replies View RelatedI started on ubuntu 8.10 and my wireless card has always worked,Since i did a fresh install of ubuntu 10.04 it still seems to work to a point.I can see networks, click them and use a password to connect but it never seems to carry on, I typed the password correctly and after a minute it asks for it again.I have read a post about problems other people are having and that i need to install a different program.But i cant install another program if there is no wireless as apt-get doesn't work without internet connection.So... I need to download something that will fix it (possible update if one has been released) to xp (partition) then access xp partition from ubuntu and install it.

My suspect was the driver was 2.6.35.1 kernel based i may need to update my kernel, but i have other laptop having 2.6.32-21 kernel and this card works fine.

I have Dell 1537 laptop having Intel 5100 wireless card. It is not supported by Fedora 9. I have tried downloading the driver iwlwifi-5000-ucode-8.24.2.12.tgz from URL...Downloads and copied it to folder /lib/firmware and rebooted the machine. But still it is not detected by the system. Is there any solution to this problem .

Wireless card detected but cannot connect to a wireless network
I have install it suse 11, and everything went well until the wireless thing is not working, my card is Broadcom BCM4318, I see my card on the network settings but I cannot configure the card, and also I cannot connect to a wireless network, can someone tell me what to do here, I am loosing my patient....
I am running the latest version of arch linux on a Dell Latitude D420. So far everything has worked perfectly except the wireless. It seems that Arch does not even detect the wireless because ifconfig -a only gives me the loopback and eth0. I installed ndiswrapper as well as the drivers. lsmod | grep ndiswrapper shows that ndiswrapper is being loaded on boot. I tried to install the iwp3945 drivers, but they have become obsolete so pacman was unable to find them. I also tried installing the iwl3945 drivers as explained here [URL] but still no luck.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install Ubuntu Netbook 10.04 on my eee pc. I have a macbook pro with built in SD card reader and a 4 gig sd card. I followed the instructions on the ubuntu netbook download page to create the bootable usb media and it appeared to work, but was not bootable for either the eee pc or the macbook.
I also posted under the apple section of the forums here: [URL]... I also tried using VirtualBox to create a virtual machine that I could install ubuntu directly onto the SD card, but VirtualBox can't work with the built in SD card reader apparently.
I'm trying to make a bootable SD card on my macbook pro with built in sd reader so that I can load ubuntu netbook on my eee pc.
I followed the instruction on the Ubuntu Netbook download page, and it appears to work, but the SD card isn't bootable. I've tried to boot from it on both the eee pc and the macbook.
If you know how to do this, or know of some alternative way I can load ubuntu netbook on my eee pc that would be great.
I see the device in dmesg. On the macbook pro 6,1 it gets issued IRQ 19 and loads sata_sil24 and ata_piix correctly, however on the 5,1 and 5,2 macbook pro it only loads sata_sil24 and gets IRQ 24. Is there anyway to specify the IRQ assigned to the device via the kernel (is it an IRQ conflict or device not working on IRQ24)? MacBook Pro uses an EFI so not traditional bios where I can set irqs. Am I looking in the right direction as to the cause of my problem? Slackware 13.1 with standard linux kernel 2.6.35.8

Checking the Hardware Drivers, I can see the Broadcomm driver as "Activated but not currently in use". Following the copious advice elsewhere I have disabled the driver, rebooted the machine, enabled it again - many times. Still the same message. What is stopping me from activating it? View 4 Replies View RelatedUbuntu is not the problem; I don't think. I'm running Maverick 10.10. With my computer I have to unplug and plug back in the graphics card every time I want to start up the computer so I usually keep it running 24-7. There was a power surge and when I got it back running, once it reached the load boot screen and it was stuck their for awhile. Then it instantly sent me to x-term. So I tried logging in and typing:
sudo start gdm
It said it was already running but I could not display anything or login the normal way. I restarted and the same thing happened. I managed to get to Recovery Mode and I fixed broken packages and then I ran it in low graphics mode. It said that the display, monitors, input, and graphics card could not be detected. If there was a way to resize the screen to something more tolerably than 800x600 in low graphics mode I'd be glad to hear it. I could at least stick around to using that until I can fix some stuff up.
