Ubuntu :: Loss Gberal Xubunto Menu At Top Of Page While Firefox Is Open?
Sep 26, 2010
When I go into firefox I loss the menu bar at the top for some reason. I can minimise or open another application while in Firefox and to shut down have to close firefox first. how to get back the menu so I can see it again?Seems to happen in firefox only but not other programs.I can't seem to change text now. Should read "lost general xubuntu menu...
I like text and graphics large so i've used about:config in Firefox to set both the min and max zoom level at 120%, but want to firefox start using these settings. Once opened i can press ctrl and + to jump to 120% zoom and once i'm there my settings make me stay there no matter what. What i want is for Firefox to open at these settings.
After installing a bunch of new updates with the update manager a few problems have popped up regarding the scrolling in firefox with the arrow keys. The first problem is that when I open up a new web page it does not automatically allow me to scroll. I have to first click the web page and then are the arrow keys enabled. The second problem that I have is that when I press the down arrow key to scroll down in the beginning it jumps down to the end of the page. The third and final problem is how it scrolls. For some reason a site in firefox acts like a word document. Instead of be the arrow keys controlling the scroll bar it controlls the little I symbol you see when typing.
It is amazing how annoying it can be when you can't scroll with the arrow keys. If nobody knows how to then I will probably just reinstall firefox. I have also just figured out that page up and down also do not work.
10.04; 64 bit In Firefox, the size of the fonts varies greatly from site to site. Some are too small to read, others huge. Some headings and menus overlap.Screen size: 1152 x 864
My settings are: Proportional: serif 14 Serif: Times New Roman Sans serif: Arial Monospace: Courier New 14
On FC11 64 bit with Adobe flash plugin for Linux installed, I see segfault errors from "npviewer" in /var/log/messages. The only browser I have tried yet, Firefox, has glitches every now and then. Sometimes it shows the title of a page in a tab, but the page is blank. This can even happen when I try the Google main page. Is it true that npviewer has something to do with Adobe flash? Is there a way to fix the problem? If it is caused by Adobe flash, is there a different plugin that will replace Adobe flash player?
just want to report "Right Mouse Click Freeze" on Ubuntu 10.10. When I click on anything with my right mouse button to open options menu it freezes and does not open menu. Sometimes when I shake my mouse left/right a bit it opens that menu, but this does not work always. It seems like xserver issue, but I'm not sure since I'm not expert in linux yet. It's very annoying issue that I would like to resolve asap.
My System Specs: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40GHz CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Western Digital 250 GB Hard Drive Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit (Kernel Linux 2.6.35-22) (Used Desktop Install CD)
Firefox runs at separate restricted user account which cannot connect to main X server.
Firefox uses Xvfb (virtual "headless" X server) as X server.
x11vnc is running on that Xvfb.
On the main X server there is vncviewer running that connect to this x11vnc
On powerful laptop (Acer Extensa 5220) it seems to work more or less well, but on "Acer Aspire One" netbook it is slowish (on a background that firefox is loaded with lots of extensions). How to optimise this scheme? Requirements:
Browser cannot connect to main X server.
Browser should be in chroot jail (no "suid" scripts, readonly for many things)
Browser should have a lot of features (like in AutoPager, NoScript, WoT, AdBlockPlus)
I have a lot of old video footage around that, I am ashamed to say, I encoded with heavily proprietary codecs like DivX and such during the dark ages (aka. the Windows Times).
Now, I would like to redeem myself from the mistakes of my past by re-encoding everything into open formats. Since those videos are often not of the best quality (poor camera, poor codecs, poor knowledge), I do not want to loose more quality in the process.
So, to avoid any more mistakes in the future, I would be glad if someone could answer me some of the following questions: 1. Is it even possible to re-encode those movies into something like x264/vp8/theora without loosing any more quality? 2. What tools should I use for that? Command line is actually preferred. 3. What would be the most desirable format to have? I'm thinking about x264 in Martroska with ogg Auto. Is there anything better suited?
I just installed firefox and flash-plugin.The version of firefox is 3.0.10, package is firefox-3.0.10-1.el5.centos.The version of flash-plugin is 10.0.22.87, package is flash-plugin-10.0.22.87-1.el5.rf.But firefox crashes when there is flash in web page, unless disable flash plugin in firefox.
I am using ubuntu 8.10 and firefox 3.0.png and for some reason I cant minimise the firefox page and it is taking up most of the screen. None of the top bar with Applications Places and System or date volume in fact no top bar. I cant remember everything I have tried. When I go to custom the top bar briefly appearers and then goes off.
that's pretty much about it. I just can't open the IMDB web page. It never loads and the page is just blank. The firefox tab says: "loading" and later says "the connection was reset" blablabla. It is the only web page that I can't view so far.

When I try to open any nfs-mounted file using OpenOffice, I get a pop-up window titled "Document in Use". The text of the message is:
"Document file 'abcde.odt' is locked for editing by:
Unknown User
Open document read-only or open a copy of the document for editing." I then have three options - <Open Read-Only>, <Open Copy>, & <Cancel> If I cp any of these files from the mounted directory to my home dir (not mounted), I can open them without problem. Also, my firefox & thunderbird date are in this mounted directory as well (sym links to ~dan/.mozilla & ~dan/.thunderbird). Both of these apps hang when trying to open, leaving two processes behind that need to be manually killed. Again, cp'ing the data out of the nfs-mounted dir onto a local dir resolves the issue, so I am 100% confident there is nothing missing or corrupted in the firefox &/or thunderbird data...

When I open 'firefox' from the app panel at the top of the screen, it opens on the last web site visited.
I've looked every place I can think to tell it to open in a blank screen. My preferences are set to blank. Right click on the icon > properties shows 'firefox %u'.
Is there something in 'about:config' that would control this and what do I search for?
When I start firefox the home google page will load and all is well. When I go to any other page (ex. cnn.com, gmail, etc) the page will load graphically, but then continue to load forever. At this point I cannot click on anything in firefox including the drop-down menus.I must force quit at this point.
I updated last night even though I was already using firefox 3.6. I had a problem with flash last time I updated. I reinstalled firefox and went back to firefox 3.5 without any success. This makes me think that the problem is something other than firefox.I am on a Toshiba Satellite L505-S5965 running ubuntu 9.10. I'd give you more information but when I click on system and go down to "About Ubuntu" it loads forever - this is another problem I need to fix. Ugh. I should never have updated
I have installed a CLI ubuntu system and then installed gnome-session and all the applications I needed. Yesterday I have installed Firefox 6. Addons added are :flashblock, adblock + and noscript addons. Now the weird thing is that today while navigating on this site: [URL]. I get Godaddy Page.
Freeze browser wait for end of loading URL datausing Namoroka firefox 3.6.4pre Ubuntu/9.10 karmicproblem started app 2-3 weeks ago, same time working on JAVA update.JAVA test OK .most download locations seems to freeze or not complete loadingonly forced close/reset af browser is helping.how to find the change causing this?
I installed the add-on Greasemonkey for Firefox and since then firefox won't open. If I try to open it on safe mode nothing comes up, it I try it a secont time it tells me that Firefox is already running and if I try to open it normally it shows it on the bottom as if it was opening and then it dissapears.
Why do I keep getting this error when I try to search something on google. It happens when my query has around five or more words. If a search for just one or two words I don't get the error. I know it's not google because it happens with bing, msn, and yahoo too. The connection was reset The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make surethat Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
I am impressed with the visuals of both Ubuntu 10.04 and Firefox 3.6, but unfortunately I've been experiencing a very annoying issue since my install of 10.04 two days ago.
When I begin a Firefox session (using profile manager, in case it might have any relevance to the issue) it moves at lightning speed for the first five or so pages. Then, if I try a website it will time out (I have tried various pages, so it is not a page-specific issue) forcing me to refresh the page, wait roughly ten seconds, and finally be back on the initial page.
I am too lazy to re-list my PC stats, but they can be found in my signature. I am running on a household network, with the average connection speed ranging from from 40-80%.
The only other Ubuntu release I have used is Jaunty, where Firefox 3.0 (was it really 3.0 back then?) worked perfectly.
I have installed Google Chrome as well, and it seems to have the same relative issue, but it manages to recover from the timeouts quickly.
My only thought is perhaps it is an internal Internet setting that is disturbing the browser(s), potentially a default setting that has been modified since 9.04?
First of all I want to say that I'm new to Linux. I am using Ubuntu 10.04 LL and i want to create a html page, in terminal mode, but firefox does not display it correctly. i used this tutorial, http://linuxcommand.org/wss0030.php , but it seems that whatever i do, when i run the page with firefox (x@ubuntu:~/bin$ firefox page.html), the page displays the #!/bin/bash line, it doesn't interpret variables, reserved words, or any other special characters ( $, <<- ). I've tried to change the encoding in firefox from Unicode-8 to Unicode-32 but no luck
I want to set my preferred homepage for the firefox, but the linux version is different from Window version. I could not locate the option tab under the 'tools' in firefox.
I have just upgraded to Ubuntu 9.1 and now my mobile broadband connection will not work. The dongle says it is connected to my provider but Firefox is telling me it cannot find the web page. Everything was working perfectly before the upgrade!
Error message: The browser could not find the host server for the provided address.
I love Ubuntu, but it makes a loud sort of death rattle when it starts up, disturbing other people. Also when I exit Firefox, if there is more than one page tab, it makes a loud clicking noise. How can I stop these things?
One of my favorite features of fire fox is the page zoom ( ctrl + / ctrl - ) that zooms the entire page retaining the layout how ever when I installed 10.04 on my main desktop firefox started scaling the images very poorly ( ie no smoothing, leaving the image looking extremely pixelated ).All threads I've found on the subject seems to related to ubuntu 8, and suggest that a bug fix was underway... hopefully this means there is an easy fix - but what?info;Same computer it worked fine on ubuntu 9.xx and windows 7 - when doing desktop zoom (meta + mouse scroll ) the images also scales as expected.
while i realize it's certainly taboo to download a lot of videos videos and similar without permission, and possibly illegal in some countries due to copyright, i have also been reading that the video is clearly buffered in the page casche, so technically is stored on your machine already, but is only stored in ram. how can i save it from my firefox page casche? some mitigating info is that i have poor web speeds, and an old machine, which is not using all of the 1gig of ram for some reason.
(I am new to Ubuntu though have experimented with various Linux flavors in the past.) I have been struggling with this issue with Firefox 3.6.17 on Ubuntu 10.10. When I start Firefox it always loads the previous session's tabs, though I have the option set to load home page, not restore tabs. Where would it be picking this up from ?
I am using firefox 3.6.18 in Ubuntu 10.04. My problem is that if I try to save some webpage in postscript or pdf format, I go to file>print>print-to-file option and choose output file as ps or pdf format. Now if I click to print, I do get the corresponding page saved in ps/pdf format but only the first page is printed(i.e., saved in ps/pdf format) this way, leaving major portion(may be eight pages for example) of the corresponding webpage unsaved. (the option: range of printing: all pages is chosen by default.) Why is this happening and what should I do to print the entire page? (one example is the following page which you may try to save in the way I described above: [url]
