Aug 22, 2009I want to set my preferred homepage for the firefox, but the linux version is different from Window version. I could not locate the option tab under the 'tools' in firefox.

OpenSUSE :: Firefox Not Showing Home Page
Sep 19, 2010I just upgraded my home machine to 11.2 and am running the regular Firefox 3.6.10 for openSUSE-11.2 (why can I still not cut and paste that infor from the dialog box, grr).
My home page is set to - file:///home/dhoworth/public_html/localstart.html
But when Firefox starts it shows instead a directory listing of - file:///home/dhoworth/
If I then press the home button, it shows my home page. If I start a new window from an existing one, it shows my home page.
why it isn't shown on startup?

Now I am trying to set the home page i.e. browser.startup.homepage variable (in red color) with my own URL using a script. Here is what I am trying to do but it is not working:

Note that the in the original file (prefs.js), the URL could be set to *anything* and not necessarily www.abc.com. So I need to search for the variable user_pref("browser.startup.homepage" and then set the entire line with my own supplied line (with the desired URL).
Ubuntu :: Firefox Always Restores Tabs Though Its Set To Show Home Page?
May 7, 2011(I am new to Ubuntu though have experimented with various Linux flavors in the past.) I have been struggling with this issue with Firefox 3.6.17 on Ubuntu 10.10. When I start Firefox it always loads the previous session's tabs, though I have the option set to load home page, not restore tabs. Where would it be picking this up from ?

Nov 23, 2009On FC11 64 bit with Adobe flash plugin for Linux installed, I see segfault errors from "npviewer" in /var/log/messages. The only browser I have tried yet, Firefox, has glitches every now and then. Sometimes it shows the title of a page in a tab, but the page is blank. This can even happen when I try the Google main page. Is it true that npviewer has something to do with Adobe flash? Is there a way to fix the problem? If it is caused by Adobe flash, is there a different plugin that will replace Adobe flash player?

Jul 1, 2010I have xfce on my machine, running lucid lynx. For some weird reason, I can't change my firefox home page. I've changed it to the same one time and again in preferences, but every time I open firefox, it shows all the files in my home directory, including hidden ones. I uncheck the "show hidden files box", change it again in "preferences", but it still does this. And the home page in "preferences" is set to the right page I want; firefox just won't go there when I start it up. I really don't want my home directory in plain view like that; how do I make firefox recognize my settings?

Fedora :: Firefox Very Slow Page Loading
May 5, 2010With the last several updates to Firefox, loading pages from several different sites slows down to (slower than) a crawl - taking sometimes minutes. Most of the time, this occurs loading ads.
I don't remember what release this started with, but I didn't have problems before, and I don't have any problems loading the same web pages on IE8 (running on XP). This is the same on F12 and F11.
I have tried changing some of the securty choices, even tried blocking certain sites, but no luck.
Also, several times after a download, firefox freezes, although the rest of the desktop is okay.

Sep 17, 2009Trying to open Firefox, and find that I cannot. It crashes. So, have opened Seamonkey, and am writing this from there. F11 updated to the latest on an ThinkPad R51. If I try my terminal, it opens provided I quickly open an empty tab before the home page loads. As soon as I try to connect to a page, or even preferences, Firefox crashes.

Fedora :: Firefox Gets Into A State Where Nothing On The Scottrade Page Is Clickable
Jan 25, 2010I'm seeing weirdness with Scottrade's main screen with Firefox (not the real-time streaming quotes app). It seems after a few minutes, whether idling or otherwise, Firefox gets into a state where nothing on the Scottrade page is clickable. Firefox menus still work as do other tabs so Firefox itself is still alive. It's as if a timer fires inside Firefox that renders the Scottrade page inert. Manually reloading the page temporarily fixes the problem. This is the only website where I've encountered this. It's particularly annoying when you're in the middle of placing a trade order and the page suddenly goes dead when you're about to submit.
System: Fedora 11 x86-64 Firefox 3.5.6 (x86-64) from Fedora Update
I thought maybe this was a problem specific to Fedora's Firefox build so I installed the FF 3.5.6 and 3.6.0 i386 from a tarball direct from Mozilla. Same results. I'd be inclined to call this a Firefox bug were it not for the fact that I do not see this behavior on my ancient Fedora 4 machine running Firefox 3.5.6 installed from the same tarball.

Mar 23, 2010What follows is actually a copy of my yesterday post on users mailing list, which so far had no response at all. I hope I'll have more luck here.I have 3 PCs running Hardy, Karmic, and Fedora 12, with Firefox on each of them: v. 3.0.18 on Hardy and v. 3.5.8 on both Karmic and Fedora.I created "shared" profile on each system and synchronize them using Unison. Ubuntu 8.04 is a base system for synchronization.The synchronization itself works just fine on all 3 systems. No functionality problems on either of Ubuntu's.In Fedora however I'm having a problem. While using "shared" profile I can save neither a web page nor a download (unless I use some of add-on' as described below).
If either Save Page As... or Save Link As... menu items are selected the requests are simply ignored with no response from FF. However using Download Them All add-on does the job. Equally Scrapbook add-on allows me to save/capture pages.
The default profile works as expected. I thought SELinux is on the way but disabling it (for a test sake) did not changed things. All permissions in "shared" profile directory to me look OK.I'm new to Fedora and cannot figure it out myself, need you help, folks.

Mar 11, 2010When using gt5 in various directories on my system (including my home directory) I get blank results.
If I limit the max-depth enough, I get results. For example, in my home directory 'gt5 --max-depth 2' produces a listing, while 'gt5 --max-depth 3' produces a blank page.
I've noticed that the temporary html file that gets created in tmp (such as '/tmp/gt5.9035.kJVM08Y9/gt5.html' is a zero-byte file.
I can successfully do a du in the same directory (which is what I thought gt5 was using), so I'm not sure what to check?

But when I visit http:/localhost ，it shows up the list of files in <var/www/html> as if a ftp server browsed in web page. So how can I set http://localhost load my default web page index.html ?Second :I want to set up a web server on Internet through my router . I applied for DDNS account & input it into router correctly . I set virtual host in server to redirect any access from port 80 to 192.168.1.2:80 in LAN . Just for in case , I also download and running the DDNS software & installed it on PC 192.168.1.2 in LAN . My DDNS provider is oray.cn . It's a Chinese server provider . I don't think there is anything wrong with oray.cn . But if you need its information just visit oray.cn (Google can translate it for you). So I want to know did I miss something to set up a web server in this kind of situation

In the search bar put
network.dns.disableIPv6
My default value was set to false, go ahead and set it to true. Right click and Toggle. Clear out the search bar where network.dns.disableIPv6 was, and put in network.http.pipelining You should have three listings Right click on network.http.pipelining and Toggle so "true" shows for the value. Next, right click on network.http.pipelining.maxrequests and Modify, a box will pop up, replace the default 4 with 8. Close the about:config
Now test your Forefox performance. These three small changes, made a world of difference for me. Its now comparably fast as chromium. If you disagree with what I did, or want to let me know of any other "safe" speedups let me know. PS. If you don't see any improvements performance-wise or your from the future and do use IPv6, it would be best to go and take these settings back to the default Firefox settings.

I've looked every place I can think to tell it to open in a blank screen. My preferences are set to blank. Right click on the icon > properties shows 'firefox %u'.
Is there something in 'about:config' that would control this and what do I search for?

When I go to any other page (ex. cnn.com, gmail, etc) the page will load graphically, but then continue to load forever. At this point I cannot click on anything in firefox including the drop-down menus.I must force quit at this point.
I updated last night even though I was already using firefox 3.6. I had a problem with flash last time I updated. I reinstalled firefox and went back to firefox 3.5 without any success.This makes me think that the problem is something other than firefox.I am on a Toshiba Satellite L505-S5965 running ubuntu 9.10.
