Ubuntu :: Looking For Free Style And Bayer Contour Meters?
Jan 21, 2011
I'm posted recently about the One Touch meter, but I'm now looking at the Free Style and the Bayer Contour meters.
I'm curious if anyone has made any of the above work under Linux, preferably Ubuntu.
The Bayer Contour USB plugs directly into the USB port so no proprietary cable is necessary. Their listed specs show that the software works under Windows and OS X, so maybe their headed in the right direction.
If I can access the data on the meter and make sense out of it, I should be able to at least put it in a spreadsheet even if I have to copy and paste or manually enter the data.
So, if anyone has made either of the above work, or knows of a brand name meter that will work, it would be helpful.

I've got a question on free disk space. I'm currently running CentOS 5.5 on in Xenserver virtual environment. We've had an issue with disk space. My question is as follows: - from a ssh connection i run df -h this gives the value of 90% used leaving me with 9GB. If I use system monitor via a VNC connection the free disk space value is 20GB free on the same volume. Which one is correct? I do use SNMP to monitor the same volume and should alert me when < 10% is free I know this works as I set the alert threshold to < 90% I get an alert.

Am I asking too much for a FREE OS? Everybody spend their precious time to help others, that's very helpful. But it seems like there is no support from UBUNTU team, how could we even get through the barrier of not using Microsoft's OSes? No free lunch of course, but it seems to me some issues have never really been solved.I read lot's of people have problem with their WIFI, not just for my OLD USB wifi adapter. I don't have problem with WIFI in XP/Server.
I posted here and there, and seems like no answer, and I do not get any reply from UBUNTU support team, forgive me if I run out of google's keywords.I just need a simple answer, is my WIFI going to work in UBUNTU with a layman effort? I like linux and UBUNTU had put great effort in providing me such a great OS, but if a basic internet connection will need to spent sooo much time to setup, and it still doesn't work. IS IT WORTH to switch to UBUNTU at all

At the end-point? when doing 'free(digits);' I get a debug messge. But the programm continues to work, or it crashes only on free?
How do I need to change the source-code, not to recieve a message from debugger?

I'm looking for a way to get a Mac OS X style dock on Xubuntu, I tried cairo and it was ok but I just got a black border around the dock which was annoying. And I tried looking up how to fix it and most places recommend turning on compositing which I had already had on in xfce. I'm not necessarily looking for animated stuff, just an icon based dock like that.

I was wondering if anyone knew if there is an KDE-style app launcher for XFCE, preferably in the repos. I'm using KDE on my main system, and would love to have the same ALT+Space launcher on my laptop. Only without having to install (and run) all of the KDE libraries.
Closest I came was a couple of Mac-OS style docks.

The only reason I keep a dual-boot on my computer is because I need the calendar in Outlook. Is there a outlook-style calendar I can use in Ubuntu 10.04? Here is the catch, it MUST be able to sync with my Google calendar. Because I use an android phone that syncs with Google. I would love to totally leave windoze behind me.Maybe I can use Wine to install the entire 2007 MS office suite into Linux?

I know that there are different themes available and they are really easy to implement, however I would like to find a theme or UI that looks like our old favourite game DEFCON. I love those old-school vector graphics and DEFCON looks so good. Who wouldn't love a GUI based on vector graphics! Where should I look or start?

My Creative ZEN Style 300 player is not recognized in Ubuntu 10.10 through media players (Rhythembox, Banshee, Gnomad2...etc) . it is recognized correctly as a removable media like any flash drive ,but not as a media player though.
I've searched a the issue and found some solutions to other Creative ZEN models ,but none worked for me.
here is my lsusb output:
Code:
Bus 002 Device 006: ID 041e:2016 Creative Technology, Ltd
I've edited the /lib/udev/rules.d/45-libmtp8.rules
file and added
Code:
# Creative ZEN Style 300

Several times now I've for some reason had a different style on my desktop when I boot until I power the computer down. Frames still look the same but applications look different and the panel at the top changes. I tried changing the appearance but the frames are the only things that change. I've attached some screen shots. It should look just like it does after a fresh install.

I just installed Kubuntu on my machine, but on returning to gde I still have the oxy-white pointer from kde. I went to preferences>appearance>themes>customize>pointer, and changed it back to DMZ White, yet the pointer still looks like oxy-white. I tried it with all of the different pointer options, but none of them will override oxy-white.

CentOS has a awesome little command line tool 'setup' which allows you to quickly setup networking etc without a GUI and is far more user friendly than anything Ubuntu has right now out of the box.

I am looking for a Rhythmbox style mediaplayer that plays dts music.VLC works excellent but it would be very nice with a GUI more suited for a music library (Artist/Album/Genre/..).I have a dual screen setup and I have the music on a separate 8" touch screen (MyhtTv on the other screen - the tv) so if there is a software handling both reular mp3/flac/ogg music and dts with a touch screen adapted gui that would be ideal.

So I'm having a weird issue with Gnome 3 in Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit (daily-live 4.25.2011). Anyways here's the issue, some windows File Menu bar is like the classic GTK style and doesn't look anything like the other windows, even though its an updated version. For example this happens on Gnome Terminal (3.0) and Empathy (3.0) and Nautilus (3.0) and a few others, but Firefox is fine, etc.

When I go to the appearance preferences in Ubuntu 10.04 w/GNOME and try to select a cursor different from the default, nothing happens, the cursor refuses to change. Logging out and in doesn't work. Over the weeks I've played around with this machine a bit, installing and uninstalling various DEs such as Kubuntu and LXDE; I have a feeling something messed up my cursor config while I was changing stuff, but I don't know what or where. Is there any quick way to troubleshoot why the cursor isn't changing?
