I seem to run into a problem with downloading the latest Fedora 12 Unity Re-Spins with jigdo. At the end I'm getting the message that 3 packages couldn't be downloaded. Is there any other means to download those images?
View 4 Repliesafter the netinst finished to download the last package, one hour later the process never continues, I checked the log file and I didn't find anything suspecious, also dmesg and nothing, in fact, in the log file before checked I found that the last line was registered just a minute ago - DHCP renew IP-, so my questions are:
1. all the packages downloaded are gone?, can I restart the installation using all those packages downloaded?
2. where I can find the error or problem that cause that the installation was freezed?
3. in the case that installation needs to start from the beginning, can I use the package downloaded?
if i configured the /etc/yum.conf file to:
keepcache=1
this seems to keep downloaded packages. in the dir specified at:
cachedir=/var/cache/yum
the next time i wish to use these packages and install them, how would i use yum to do this or do i just use rpm instead ? Would it be necessary to connect to the internet to do this? What about those package dependencies will i have to install them all one at a time?
Thereś trouble with my keyboard and since no body is able to help iḿ thinking of reinstalling.I like to know if fedora keeps a cache of downloaded packages so that it can save me the bandwidth after i reinstall??
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my acer aspire laptop and The screen is like completely black i mean if you hold a flashlight to a certain spot you can see a tiny bit. i was on another thread earlier and the posted this "This fixed a black screen issue and a brightness adjustment issue after installation of ubuntu. Also on 11.04 I couldn't get Unity to work until I edited grub I didn't come up with the fix but it took me forever to find a solution so I figured I would post it. If I have did something wrong just get a mod to delete or move this. I don't use forums often.

After reading a few other threads on the matter, I suspect the problem is with the 'nvidia-current' package more than the libgl1-mesa-glx or unity packages. ... though it does seem odd that Unity doesn't have a non-OpenGL verison.
If I find a solution, I'll come back. I hope the answer isn't "ditch nvidia-current for the binary install script from nVidia direct." If someone found this thread in a search, the nVidia driver install scripts can be found at [URL]

Whenever I boot up Fedora 15 on Virtual Box, I get the message " gnome 3 could not load " and I installed all the packages needed to install Guest Additions, but even when I mounted the file, the ONLY file I could find online that was VMBoxGuestAdditions.iso or something like that, I mounted it, I tried installing, but nope, it gives me an error message that it can't. I have the latest version of VirtualBox and I've been on several forums and looked at many places but I can't fix it. Just spent three whole days barking up the wrong tree, solving Fedora 11 and Fedora 12 boot failures because the correct hypothesis was illogical: installation did not update/modify the initrd.
The first couple of times I installed Fedora 11 on the HighPoint Technologies RocketRaid 2640x4, the installation inserted my "custom" driver module (rr26xx) into the initrd, permanently, so that the system booted off the controller card for which the custom driver was inserted. (I yelled about this success in this thread: [url]
My most recent installs of BOTH F11 and F12 on the RocketRaid failed to properly set up the boot. It turns out that the "rr2640" module I "slipstreamed" into the installation process was *NOT* permanently added to the initrd by anaconda. (F12 gave me "no root device found boot has failed, sleeping forever", on boot; F11 hung also, without such error, I presume, during the init script execution). Because of limited resources and time, I only know for sure the module was missing from the F11 initrd, and am ASSUMING the same was the case with F12.
The only difference between the successful installs and the ones with failed boot is that the successful installs were made on a single-drive (JBOD) mode on the controller; whereas, the failed ones were placed on RAID 5. But, AFAIK, the created logical device for the card is "/dev/sda", in both cases, and the kernel can not distinguish between the two cases (or can it?). Thus, the inconsistency cost me a lot of time, and is still inexplicable to me.
Question: What is the best way to deal with custom drivers, today? There are custom spins, and many tools, like isomaster. Stupid question: Is there a way to modify the initrd inside an installer ISO -- be it for CD/DVD/USBboot drive -- beefing the init RAM disk with whatever modules you'd like, for the boot process (using, say, isomaster)?
And what makes anaconda understand that a module must be added to the initrd ? How can one force anaconda to do so?
How does moving to dracut as the initrd tool affect any/all of the above?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am new to linux (ubuntu) and I really like it, but the same day I installed ubuntu in my vaio, it asked me to install the upgrades, and after I did it there is sign in my desktop saying:
An error occurred, please run Package manager from the right click menu or apt-get in a terminal to see what is wrong,
The error message was 'error BrokenCount >0. This usually means that you installed packages with unmet dependencies
So I did some research and use the package manager (it says that I have 280 broken packages) and try to fix broken packages but it did not work. I had to learn how to use the terminal and I did things like apt-get clean all or update upgrade etc but nothing works the message still there.
I am a new ubuntu user, I downloaded it because it was recommended over windows for programming uses. I am new to Ubuntu, and everytime I try and download something from the Ubuntu software center an error pops up saying:
"Requires installation of untrusted packages. The action would require the installation of packages from not authenticated sources."
It does this for everything I try and download.
