I'm running Debian sid on a 64 bits system. I need to install ia32-libs to install 32 bits packages (especially for skype).The problem is the following:

HW:ACER ASPIRE 4920G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400 XT. I installed debian sid from latest daily testing businesscard the day before yesterday. I did a fresh install,I select LXDE for desktop and checked standard & desktop packages while installing. I got a complete blank screen with broken color when I restart pc while I finished installing. I did a web search and add radeonhd.nomodeset=0 to grub and I run into LXDE. But I still get a problem. I tried to install gnash & gnash-common. I got E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

I just started having a problem with my ubuntu Jaunty.When I try installing Gimp and VLC through Synaptic I get the following error Could not mark all packages for installation or upgrade The following packages have unresolvable dependancies. Make sure that all repositories are added and enabled in the preferences
gimp:
Depends: libgimp2.0 (>=2.6.10) but 2.6.6-0ubuntu1.1 is to be installed
Depends: libatk1.0-0 (>=1.29.3) but 1.26.0-0ubuntu2 is to be installed

I get similar message for VLC as well
I installed Amarok after this problem started and it installed properly.
I cannot install java (or the restricted plugins) at all . Can anyone send me your "lucid" sources.list while I'm at it?

I then realised the GUIs sucked, so I removed them. Rule 1 : Mark all packet coming from 192.168.2.0/25 with number 1
Rule 2 : Drop all packets which has been mark with number 1
I use Debian Jessie + KMail on desktop side. My mail server has Spamassassin installed. My problem is that I receive some spam and it goes though the server-side filtering.
I mark all messages as SPAM in KMail but neither KMail or the server learn that those are spam and should not enter the inbox.
How to get rid of the messages? Unsubscribing is not an option - I don't want to click on any link contained in the mails.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI had a broken URL in my /etc/apt/sources.list file, apparently because the debian-multimedia.org site had some kind of server issue and they had to rebuild the site from the ground up. They must have changed their directory structure, because I began getting 404 Errors when upgrading packages. I eventually fixed the URL last week after it had been broken for three months, then I upgraded and rebooted. After that, sound stopped working, even system sounds. My speakers work, because I plugged them into another machine and they worked. I eventually discovered that the master volume was set to "mute", and so was the master volume in the alsamixer. However, even after changing it to 100% for both, sound still doesn't work. I even made sure to issue a "alsactl -store" command toeep the settings there after a reboot. I removed and reinstalled all the alsa and pulse audio packages, made sure that the emu10k1 driver was installed for my Soundblaster Audigy card, and made sure everything was unmuted. I have also tried a million other things that I've found on Google, but nothing seems to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have just installed Debian Lenny and was trying to upgrade the installed packages from the packages.debian.org site. when i asked synaptic to add the downloaded packages the would not appear, but when i checked the .xsessions file there are entries saying that the packages were being ingnored because they were either different versions, the MD5 did not match or even "can't find pkg". i have to use the local library to download the packages because i dont have an internet connection at home.

the mcr85+1 packages were built using qt 4.6.3, so will be squeeze-compatible. umplayer is a fork of the abandoned smplayer project which adds skinning, shoutcast stream, and minitube-like videos search, playback, and download capability to the program.

squeeze users should use the mcr85 packages, the mcr110 ones need qt 4.7. sources included as usual. it looks like it would be a nice addition to the debian repo...
Here's the deal: I'm in the backwoods with this mini-laptop and I'd like to do some composing with it. I don't have much internet here so I can't start googling around or download hundreds of MB's of packages. Anyone able to recommend me a good, lightweight midi notation software?
View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter installing debian 5.0.4 basic from first dvd, I extracted all other dvd images to hard disk and pointed /etc/apt/sources.list point to all these directories.
after refreshing using synaptic package manager, I got list of all 20,000+ packages, and did a
"apt-get -y install ......(all 20,000 names)". It failed due to some conflicts. So I used "--force-yes -f " option as well.
It went on for nearly two days to install everything. (in between due to power failure, something was done half way and was able to login to KDE boot option and see lots of software installed.)
After complete install - it shows a startup screen of Debian EDu - but fails to boot up.
Is there a way to install all softwares + all XWindow systems simultaneously?

I wanted to install the newest pidgin, so I added at sources.list the sid repository, and tried to install pidgin, but it needed the newest perl-base 5.12.3-6 (from 5.10.1-17). I first noticed this behaviour with Fedora 9, so I guess the install process is behaving as intended. However, when I install grub in the linux boot partition, SDA 6 with my current configuration, I would like my Vista partion to remain active. I use EasyBCD in Vista to control booting, as I have more Vista systems than linux systems. Currently, I have to boot the Vista install DVD after every Fedora install to do a start up repair on the hard drive. After the Fedora install, the Vista partition is marked inactive and needs to be marked active again. IMHO, if the linux boot loader is loaded in the linux boot partition, the currently active Windows partition should be left active. Unless I'm missing something, the MBR on the drive is going to be pointed at some other partition than the linux partition whenever grub is installed in the linux boot partition instead of the MBR. It's not that hard to activate the Windows partition, but after installing a few F12 alpha snaps and beta TCs and RCs, it's getting annoying. Any chance this can be changed?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI uninstalled mplayer w/ apt-get (and with it mplayerthumbs + mozilla-mplayer) for the purpose of running a 'make install' on an SVN version I compiled - that worked out fine. Now I want to reinstate mplayerthumbs + mozilla-mplayer, but of course in doing so, mplayer is marked as a dep. How then do I mark mplayer to be ignored using the aforementioned package managers? Additionally, why isn't dpkg referencing my sources list?

I am tried to install Sopcast for Ubuntu Netbook remix but keep being told I have broken packages but I can't find any in synaptic or ubuntu tweak. I think I had a failed install before I found the frontend package on ubuntu tweak but I cannot find where the problem is.
I am running ubuntu on an Acer Aspire One as my sole operating system.
Does Debian ship with Xen 4.0.1 installed? And if so what CD/DVD contains the packages?

After installing the Ubuntu i opened update manager and started the updates and after half hour, some of the updates were done but the sound and multimedia package was not installed. Then i played a song and ubuntu asked me to install 2 packages for that and after i made a confirmation to that, it shows that it is unable to install the package.
