Ubuntu Installation :: Unable To Fsync Updated Status Of 'gtk2-engines-pixbuf

Feb 17, 2010

ive been trying to move myself away from windows, but it seems like ubuntu just wont have it, either that or win7 puts some curse on ubuntu Just done my 3rd(3rd time this error has now happened) fresh install of ubuntu 9.10 onto my second hard drive(first hard drive has win7), install seemed fine, boots up nicely into grub, got the internet working fine(worked out of the box, wireless), other programs run fine, all seems to be working wonderfully well!

Until I tried to update, started up the update manager, clicked on check, its finds loads of updates so I let it download them, downloads all 200+ updates, starts to install them.

The updates are installing fine but then about three quarters of the way along the progress bar for installing it gets an error.Heres the details it showed at the error: (the rest of the details just looked like successful installs/updates)

Code:

Setting up gtk2-engines-pixbuf (2.18.3-lubuntu2.2)
dpkg: unrecoverable fatal error, aborting:
unable to fsync updated status of 'gtk2-engines-pixbuf': input/ouput error touch: cannot touch '/var/lib/update-notifier/dpkg-run-stamp': read-only file system

Ubuntu :: Fatal Error: Gdk-pixbuf/gdk-pixbuf.h: No Such File Or Directory

Oct 2, 2010

I have updated to ubuntu 10.10, but when I try to compile chromium on ubuntu, I get this error:

Code:

In file included from /usr/include/gtk-2.0/gdk/gdkcairo.h:28,

/usr/include/gtk-2.0/gdk/gdkpixbuf.h:37: fatal error: gdk-pixbuf/gdk-pixbuf.h: No such file or directory

What I don't understand is why gtk-2.0/gdk/gdkpixbuf.h complains that gdkpixbuf/gdk-pixbuf.h is not found. And how can I fix it?

Ubuntu Installation :: E:Unable To Parse Package File /var/lib/dpkg/status (1)

Mar 31, 2010

I'm running ubuntu 9.04 and was happy because I finally got the screen resolution to be a good size, but now I can't update anything or even upgrade ubuntu. The message I get is

Quote:

Could Not Initialize Package Information

An unresolvable problem occured while initializing the package information. Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:

'E:Unable to parse package file /var/lib/dpkg/status (1), E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.'

I've also had issues with installing new programs (specifically tried Boxee (64bit ver) and Last.fm Scrobbler), but was thinking these issues might be related to the updage-manager error.

Ubuntu Installation :: Upgrade Interrupted - Unable To Access DPKG Status Area

Jan 6, 2010

I was in the process of upgrading my ubuntu system (probably the latest version, it was about a month ago) and my computer froze (it does that on occasion). I have looked around this site, and tried a few things. I assume I am supposed to use the command "sudo dpkg --configure -a" to fix it. The problem is that when I do that, I get the message "dpkg: unable to access dpkg status area: read-only file system". So, what do I do now? I definitely dont want to mess up my system, but I want to fix it.

Software :: Gdk-pixbuf-2.0 Package Not Found When Installing Gtk+-2.22.1?

Dec 2, 2010

I am trying to install the gtk+ package so that i can install grapher which require gtk+-2.0

When I ./configure gtk+ I get this (lots of output before what I pasted):

configure: error: Package requirements (glib-2.0 >= 2.25.10 atk >= 1.29.2 pango >= 1.20 cairo >= 1.6 gdk-pixbuf-2.0 >= 2.21.0) were not met:

No package 'gdk-pixbuf-2.0' found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables BASE_DEPENDENCIES_CFLAGS
and BASE_DEPENDENCIES_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config. See the pkg-config man page for more details.

How/where can I find this package. I tried the usual apt-get to no avail.

Ubuntu :: GTK Engines Won't Recognize Their Themes

Sep 7, 2010

I just installed Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 64 bits in my laptop because its kernel version is the only one that will recognize my fan, so upgrading to another version of Ubuntu is not a solution to this problem:So far everything has been working correctly except the capability of some GTK engines to recognize themes: they look like Windows 95 (I'm guessing they take the Raleigh GTK theme because they don't recognize the one I installed).

I've installed, uninstalled and reinstalled several times the Murrine, Equinox, Aurora and Pixbuf GTK engines, without luck. I've installed them from Synaptics (adding the source for some of them) or downloading them from gnome-look, but the problem persists. They both use Equinox, Aurora and Murrine. I'm guessing the problem is with the Murrine engine, because the "New Wave" theme that comes installed by default with Ubuntu doesn't look right either, and it uses that engine.I don't know what else to do, I disabled the Compiz effects but the problem is still there.

General :: Web Search Engines And Emacs / Vim

Nov 8, 2010

The facilities offered by any text editor to look for a string are highly superior to those offered by search engines such as that of Google or the one used by LQ>Search. To only speak of the most one elementary that comes to my mind, you can reach 'john smith' by searching with the string 'hn smi' in any decente editor, but I know of no search engine that offers this feature.

On the other hand, I have always heard of the power of Vim and Emacs. For instance, they say there is no thing Emacs cannot do. Lets advocate to the job of adding Google searches the ability to find 'john smith' by using 'hn smi' as the matching pattern. Or to add regular expression capabilities. Could I use Vim/Emacs to solve this problem?

A little light into the meaning of my words: It would be Vim/Emacs the one in charge of making the Internet connection, connecting to Google and send appropriate commands go Google. Then, to look for my string, I would be directly using Vim/Emacs which, upon receiving my commands, would send the appropriate ones to Google and return control to me.

Debian :: Unable To Check Status Of A Cups Printer?

Oct 15, 2010

I'm using Debian squeeze and for an assignement, i have create 2 virtual pdf cups printers. Both are working very well. To test the different administion command; i try to disable one of the printer and move his queue file to the second one. I'm able to do it easily.

Now, i wish to write a bash script that wil test the status of the printer. So that,if the printer is disable, it just execute the "move" script. Is there a way to know the status of a cups printer and use that information in a script?

For example, a command/function that can return "O" is the cups printer is enable and "1" if not.

OpenSUSE Install :: Unable To Change Status On Repositories?

Apr 22, 2011

After I upgraded from KDE 4.5 to KDE 4.6 I ran into a problem with changing the the status of different repoes from enabled to disabled, and vice versa. As I only did a desktop upgrade it is perhaps just a coincidence and hence the problem may be related to something different. But in any case, if I tick or untick the 'enable' or 'disable' option within the Yast module Software Repositories for the repo I wish to activate or deactivate, nothing happens. Deleting and readding the repoes has no effect, neither has rebuilding the rpm db or zypper refresh. I'm not very familiar with the command-line for these operations so I am grateful if anyone could give me a hint on what to try next.

Ubuntu :: Twitter Status / Update Pidgin Status In Lucid

Jul 5, 2010

I have just upgraded to Lucid on Ubuntu. I am a long time Pidgin user. I tried using Empathy with Gwibber, but I can't get Gwibber to update my IM status(es) in Empathy, so I want to go back to using Pidgin. (Additionally, I can't get Skype to work with Empathy.)I installed pidgin-microblog and pidgin-mbpurple, and they allow me to view my Twitter feed in Pidgin and update my Twitter status in Pidgin. However, in Karmic, I was also able to specify certain "status availabilities" (one named "Twitter-Available" and one named "Twitter-Away", for instance) to have the IM status message for these statuses become populated with my Twitter feed. This capability seems missing in pidgin-mbpurple in Lucid (and it seems to be the only thing missing from Karmic).

Is there a way to have pidgin-mbpurple update certain "status availabilities" in Lucid (and I'm just missing something) or is this no longer possible?Equivalently, is it possible to have Gwibber update my status message in Empathy? (I just want to be able to update my status once on one of my three computers - and have it propagate to all my other accounts (IM and social networking) and computers).
