Debian :: Cannot Browse Internet With Firefox?
Dec 29, 2010In debian lenney I use the dnsmasq as dns resolver, and wvdial to connect to isp, the wvdial connect to the isp but cannot browse the internet with firefox, these are what is done:

Software :: Wireless - Can't Browse With Firefox
Jul 21, 2009this is really software and not hardware. So, my wife trashed her Windows laptop with a lovely virus for the third time this year. I told her that three strikes and she's going to somewhere she can do no harm: Linux. So, her personal laptop is an old HP-Compaq from 2004.
It took Ubuntu 9.0.4 like a champ, wireless and everything working. I expected nothing less. OK but here's the problem, on the wireless connection, not the wired connection, she can't browse with Firefox. Oh, I can ping external IPs, I can ping external host names and I can browse from the CLI with Lynx. I know this is going to be something really obvious but I am stumped.

Feb 13, 2009When the dsl modem connected to net I cant browse pages through my fedora9 in my desktop. I never had the same prob before I used it a hour ago now it is not working. The connection established symbol comes and the ip addresses are assigned by dhcp and the connection is eth0 and I can use the same in windows xp so the router and internet connection have no prob. I cant ping through fedora and I can ping my own IP address, I can access my router only the browsing have problem my browser is firefox.

Wired ethernet network is seen only if ethernet cable is plugged in before booting. Then, I can ping sites by name (yahoo.com, google.com) -- however, FireFox does not load any web-page over the internet -- it does not put up an error message either, it just keeps waiting (it is in on-line mode).Info on the system

OpenSUSE Install :: Cannot Browse Internet Using Firefox
Mar 17, 2010After I installed a new version of firefox and try to use it I get the following:

Also I cant browse the internet from the desktop icon, but I can using the Konqureror browse the internet. I am using openSUSE11.1 32-bit with KDE.

Oct 14, 2009I have a problem, I'm have a course at high school (webserver management) in class this morning we had to install apache, php, ftp and so on but I didn't finish on time so when I got home I was playing around. I'm on wireless here and changed the vm connection from bridge to nat.
normally we had to install apache using yum (yum install httpd) and start the service. that's what I did and then we had to go to firefox (or IE) and type the ip of our server. but when I do I get "problem loading page" instead of the apache default page. I've set httpd runlever 2 to 5 to on and rebooted. but still not working.

Jan 24, 2010I have two kinda weird problems that have been preventing me from wasting my time!
1. I can go to a flickr page and see the first picture fine. When I use the browse buttons and/or try and change to another picture, firefox crashes.
2. When viewing pictures in facebook (the only reason I use it is to share pictures with my far-off family who doesn't get to see my kids often) the pictures are very badly pixelated.
I'm using an Acer Aspire laptop (Intel 915 graphics, celeron processor, 1.5GB ram) with a completely up to date Fedora 12 installation. The weird part is, my wife's netbook, (1GB ram, Intel 945 graphics) with Fedora 12, displays everything fine. I'm cometely stumped how one machine is having such issues while another isn't. This problem existed in F10 when I used up until the F12 release so I'm presuming it is a graphics card problem (???) since the software and OS has changed.Does anyone know what might be going on or how I can check?

Sep 7, 2010I just installed Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 64 bits in my laptop because its kernel version is the only one that will recognize my fan, so upgrading to another version of Ubuntu is not a solution to this problem:So far everything has been working correctly except the capability of some GTK engines to recognize themes: they look like Windows 95 (I'm guessing they take the Raleigh GTK theme because they don't recognize the one I installed).
I've installed, uninstalled and reinstalled several times the Murrine, Equinox, Aurora and Pixbuf GTK engines, without luck. I've installed them from Synaptics (adding the source for some of them) or downloading them from gnome-look, but the problem persists.They both use Equinox, Aurora and Murrine. I'm guessing the problem is with the Murrine engine, because the "New Wave" theme that comes installed by default with Ubuntu doesn't look right either, and it uses that engine.I don't know what else to do, I disabled the Compiz effects but the problem is still there.
General :: Web Search Engines And Emacs / Vim
Nov 8, 2010The facilities offered by any text editor to look for a string are highly superior to those offered by search engines such as that of Google or the one used by LQ>Search. To only speak of the most one elementary that comes to my mind, you can reach 'john smith' by searching with the string 'hn smi' in any decente editor, but I know of no search engine that offers this feature.
On the other hand, I have always heard of the power of Vim and Emacs. For instance, they say there is no thing Emacs cannot do. Lets advocate to the job of adding Google searches the ability to find 'john smith' by using 'hn smi' as the matching pattern. Or to add regular expression capabilities. Could I use Vim/Emacs to solve this problem?
A little light into the meaning of my words: It would be Vim/Emacs the one in charge of making the Internet connection, connecting to Google and send appropriate commands go Google. Then, to look for my string, I would be directly using Vim/Emacs which, upon receiving my commands, would send the appropriate ones to Google and return control to me.

When I click on the current search engine's icon to display all my search engines so I can choose another one, the list of my search engines appears but not their icons and other people with the same OS and browser say they don't have this issue. Aug 16, 2011I recently installed Apache on Lucid Lynx (Macbook 1.1) using the following tutorial: [URL] Everything appears to work correct except that when I browse http://localhost/ in Firefox, I cannot see any of the directories. Although, files such as html documents are visible. When I view the /var/www directory using the default graphical file browser, all of its child directories have Xs over their icons. When I attempt to open the directory "js", the following error message displays:The folder contents could not be displayed.
You do not have the permissions necessary to view the contents of "js".
I figured this was preventing Firefox from viewing the directories. So I launched it with the "gksu" command to see if it would help. I still couldn't see directories when browsing http://localhost/ I'm basically trying to achieve functionality identical to the MAMP local server for Mac OS X. I'm about to start a LAMP project for a new client so having this up and running is important!

Feb 17, 2010ive been trying to move myself away from windows, but it seems like ubuntu just wont have it, either that or win7 puts some curse on ubuntu Just done my 3rd(3rd time this error has now happened) fresh install of ubuntu 9.10 onto my second hard drive(first hard drive has win7), install seemed fine, boots up nicely into grub, got the internet working fine(worked out of the box, wireless), other programs run fine, all seems to be working wonderfully well!
Until I tried to update, started up the update manager, clicked on check, its finds loads of updates so I let it download them, downloads all 200+ updates, starts to install them.
The updates are installing fine but then about three quarters of the way along the progress bar for installing it gets an error.Heres the details it showed at the error: (the rest of the details just looked like successful installs/updates)

Feb 2, 2010I just booted up, after making a flash USB for a test (didn't work) so I booted as normally into Ubuntu 9.10 (not dual boot). When I get back on, there's this... I don't know how to explain it. If someone can think of a better way to explain this, I'll change the title to be a bit more helpful, and easier to search for those who have a similar problem.
I can't browse through windows (such as with Alt + Tab, or even just clicking on another window), nothing comes to the front, and stays as is. I've not touched my graphics / display settings, so the only thing I can think of, is when I was going through the boot-up applications, but I doubt I disabled anything that would have been graphics and GUI based, or the compizconfig-settings-manager disrupted something. I've ye to test anything, it's rather early.

Jul 18, 2011My centos 5.6 firewall server shares its Internet connection with my windows machine behind it. After the required settings, the windows machine can ping valid ip addresses but it cannot browse valid url (despite the fact that DNS is set for it).

Fedora :: Unable To Browse Network
Jul 4, 2011I just installed FC15 from scratch, and everything seems to be working OK, except that I cannot view other computers on my local network. I didn't have any problems when I was running FC13.I am able to get on the internet, and view the website I configured on this machine, but anything "network" related I cannot see.But now when I open Network, I am presented with MYGROUP, WORKGROUP, and my domain name (which is my actual "workgroup" as I don't have a domain). I cannot get to any of them - get the same timeout error as above.
