I had both 32 and 64 bit wine installed on fedora 12 and worked ok.But after I updated them from 1.1.29 to 1.1.36 from fedora repository, the 32bit wine stops working and gives the error message "wine: for some mysterious reason, the wine server failed to run." when I tried to start any windows programs which worked before.!

However, the emulator keeps crashing with "Segmentation Fault" error. Since Android emulator is a binary only 32 bit executable, I suspect that I am missing some 32 bit library, so I tried to install qemu.However, since my installation is 64 bit, I can only install 64 bit qemu. how to enable 32bit repository on a 64 bit system? I just downloaded and burned Ubuntu 10.10 32-bit to install as a dual boot on my Dell Optiplex GX270 with WinXP and 256mb RAM. I boot into the CD and I select install now, and then an error message pops up saying it failed to start the installation, and that it is going to start a graphical interface so you can investigate the problem and try again. I really would like to install Ubuntu on my desktop because its much faster than Windows XP and I can't use wubi because of the 256mb ram.

I'm just starting out with Ubuntu 10.10 on the desktop, (got VPS experience) and I'm running into an issue when installing Ubuntu 64bit. One that I'm unable to reproduce with the 32bit (x84/i368) disk. Just to note, the ISO's and disks have been checked with matching MBR.
I'm able to run the live CD on both versions perfectly. However when I press next after the 3th step of installation (The one in which you can choose whether you want to install updates and 3th party software or not), the Ubuntu 64 bit version stalls. Ubuntu doesn't freeze or anything, but it just doesn't seem able to go to the next step. (Partitioning)The odd thing about is that I can access the step perfectly on the 32bit disk. Now here is the question..... What could be the clarification for this issue and would it be possible to resolve it? (If so, how?)
P.S. Attached you can find a dxdiag output of the laptop. It's an Acer Aspire 7520G.
I am new to fedora and installed wine to see if I could get the sony reader software working (required to access sony bookstore from my sony ereader). Well the program did not work though it did create icons on my desktop. wine kept crashing and I said lets just get rid of it. I uninstalled wine via yum remove and nothing appeared to happen so I did rpm -qa |grep wine and saw lots of stuff. So I simply did yum remove wine* and then a rpm -qa |grep wine was empty. however wine is still under applications on my desktop and still has a category for programs--reader. I should also mention that while wine was installed I attempted to remove the reader via the wine uninstalller but a) wine gave a message of a core crash and b) all the uninstaller did was give me the option to reinstall the reader program. so now when I attempt to open an epub it tries with the sony reader software. I know I can just right click to use another program but for now I want wine gone completely from my pc and the sony program gone.
View 2 Replies View Relatedive been trying to move myself away from windows, but it seems like ubuntu just wont have it, either that or win7 puts some curse on ubuntu Just done my 3rd(3rd time this error has now happened) fresh install of ubuntu 9.10 onto my second hard drive(first hard drive has win7), install seemed fine, boots up nicely into grub, got the internet working fine(worked out of the box, wireless), other programs run fine, all seems to be working wonderfully well!
Until I tried to update, started up the update manager, clicked on check, its finds loads of updates so I let it download them, downloads all 200+ updates, starts to install them.
The updates are installing fine but then about three quarters of the way along the progress bar for installing it gets an error.Heres the details it showed at the error: (the rest of the details just looked like successful installs/updates)

I have installed RHEL 4 32 - bit on sda3 and after that , installed installed RHEL 64-bit on to a partition sda 5. Now i am unable to boot into RHEL 32-bit. View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running opensuse 11.2 since a few days. I installed wine to play some game. Originally I tried with the default version but since it didn't work I have installed a newer version from winehq website (just the same, an rpm package, supposedly for suse). In the mean time had a lot of stuff installed, like winetricks, or wine-doors, and the necessary wine software like directx or microsoft fonts.
After a couple of days the game is not working anymore so I have tried to remove everything and start from scratch. The problem is I can't remove wine. If I remove wine the dependency will say, it will remove package 'wine' and install 'wine-snapshot'. If I uninstall wine-snapshot it installs wine. And so on.
I'd just like to remove everything related so i can check and eventually manually delete rest of wine-related stuff to make sure it's all clean... reinstalling the game didn't help so I figured that wine is broken somehow.
Been unsuccessful in trying to install wine on my 11.3 KDE4 x86_64 system, from the Emulators:Wine/openSUSE_11.3 repo.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an old copy of daemon347.exe.I tried to run it using wine (right clicked on the file and clicked "open with wine"; also tried the "open with wine program loader" option.)After agreeing to the license agreement, I clicked the "Next>" button. But then the setup terminated.I do have an alternative for daemon - the ubuntu mounter. But this happens with quite a few .exe files. Is there a more correct way to operate wine? Either the setup files terminate after a few windows or a few setup files don't run at all.
P.S.: I have Ubuntu 9.10 amd64

One of the things I'm going to test requires me to have wine installed on the CentOS box. I found that to install wine I need to use the command "yum install wine". When doing this nothing really happens. I get the following output on the screen:
