Ubuntu Installation :: Over Win 7 On Intel X-25 M G2 SSD?

Mar 20, 2011

I'm trying to figure out how to install Ubuntu on top of Windows 7 on my intel X-25 M G2 SSD. I bought the SSD a while ago and installed Win 7 without partitioning it. Soon, I got sick of worrying about the wear and tear, and chucked it into my drawer. Instead, I installed Ubuntu on my HDD, and forgot about the SSD. Now that I need to dual-boot because of some obscure VM-bashing ActiveX plugins,

I need to install Ubuntu on my SSD. However, I'm overwhelmed and confused. I just have no idea how to do just that. What steps should I take to install Ubuntu without messing up Win 7 on my SSD? I need general pointers like align your drive, manually partition for ubuntu, and the like. I think I can plough thorough howtos and find out necessary details. I've been searching, but my effort was fruitless mainly because I didn't know what was involved.

Ubuntu Installation :: Rebuild Status Raid 1 Intel Isw Fakeraid Intel?

Oct 1, 2010

I have recently installed Ubuntu 10.04.1 lts server on my Intel "fakeraid" (software raid) (2x250 sata). To test my RAID 1 I turned off one HD and start the system. The first screen (Intel software screen) show Status = Degraded, but the system starts normally with just one HD.Then I turned off the system and turned on the HD again, so the first screen (Intel software screen) shows Status = Rebuild. If I enter in the software raid panel the folowing message is showed: "Volumes with "Rebuild" status will be rebuilt within the operating system"The system starts normally... but this message status stays permanently even I restart the system again

Ubuntu Installation :: Intel 82865G Chipset - Black Screen During Installation?

Jun 29, 2010

I have spent the better part of 2 days perusing these forums for assistance. Here is the short story:I run a 7 year old custom build with a 82865G Intel Chipset and a NVIDIA FX5200 graphics card. Had been running a sluggish XP and after adding 2GB of fresh RAM wished to start fresh with my old friend, Ubuntu.

I've tried 10.04 LTS with and without my NVIDIA card installed with no luck. I have successfully installed 10.04 using the alternate install, but this also goes to black. I can hold shift to see GRUB and play around there, but no luck so far. I've also tried 9.10 but have not gotten past the pulsing Ubuntu image. I've seen plenty of support for NVDIA and Intel onboard graphics chips suggesting boot commands like nomodeset and i9015.modeset=0/1...it's all falling short.

I'm heavily leaning towards just installing an earlier LTS or a different linux distro all together. If there no one can help me debug, maybe someone can suggest a distro that will make me happy.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: 11.3 On Intel Core I5 With Integrated Graphics + Intel H55 Express Chipset

Aug 18, 2010

! I'm thinking of buying a corei5-660 on a motherboard with an Intel H55 Express Chipset. Does anyone know if it's fully compatible with OpenSUSE 11.3? I mean video (that comes from the processor, not an off-board PCI), audio (HD Audio), networking (Intel 82578DC Gigabit), SATA Controller, USB, etc. I've tried to google but didn't find much info so I wonder if anyone is using or knows where I can find more info about it...

I have found this thread on the forums about the H55 chipset: Core i3 Intel Clarkdale graphic controller problem But the problems were facing on 11.2, I don't know about 11.3...

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Intel HD Graphics (Intel Core I3) With Suse 11.3 - Poor Resolution

Jan 2, 2011

I've installed Suse linux 11.3 (kernel 2.6.34.7-0.5) on my brand new computer HP all in one 5130. Everything worked incredibly well : Wifi, wireless keyboard and mouse, sound, webcam.. There is only one remaining issue : I get a very poor resolution (1280x1024) instead of the 1920x1080 allowed by the screen. The graphic card is an intel chipset (HD graphics) integrated to an intel core i3 CPU. Here is (part of) the X11.org log :

Ubuntu Installation :: New 9.10 On A Machine With Intel Raid?

Jan 22, 2010

This question is going to flag me as being a bit green to Ubuntu, but I must confess that in 15+ years in I.T., I have never had such a hard time understanding the partitioning scheme. Here's where I'm at.

I installed from the 9.10 live CD and selected the option to use the entire disk. The system has an Intel raid controller built in to the motherboard and two 80GB hard drives in a mirrored configuration. The system has previously been used with both XP and FreeBSD and never had an issue with partitioning or, more importantly, getting the boot manager to work.

So the live CD partitioned my hard drives, installed all the software and mount points, and claims that everything is finished. When I reboot, no boot device is found. If I then boot again from the live CD and select the option to boot from the hard disk, it does and I am in fact typing this message from the system. However, nothing I can do will make the thing boot without the bloody CD.

I've spent hours trying to figure out how to make grub work, or how to fix the MBR but no luck. The drives don't show up as /dev/hda or as anything logical that I can discern, so I can't even construct a workable install-grub command. Doing a df gives me this:

[Code]...

which is not very informative, is it? FreeBSD was never such a pain to make boot.Frankly, I'm not very impressed that a clean install (non dual boot) on such a standard hardware configuration could be so difficult to make the boot loader work. Documentation on this subject is voluminous but very shabby. I have searched and searched and I cannot find any mention of hardware mirrored IDE or SATA drives, nor what dev they would show up as. Very frustrating. Every tutorial I've read on installing grub2 or grub just doesn't work, usually because the dev is not right.

Can anyone shed some light on this bizarre behavior and perhaps offer some advice that will allow me to boot this system without the use of a live CD?

Ubuntu Installation :: Unable To Use The Intel System

Mar 1, 2010

Since Karmic has come out, this chipset crashes Ubuntu and, months later, this has not been fixed. (See bug #456902). So I had to re-install Ubuntu 9.04. Thinking this was a Ubuntu problem, I went out and bought a Linux magazine with a Fedora 12 inside. This was after I had downloaded the same distro but couldn't get the install going because of the proverbial chipset. After re-installing 9.04, after I installed Fedora 12 twice, I am now back to a crappier display then the one I had when I decided to "upgrade" to Ubuntu Karmic in November.I cannot afford a new computer nor Windows 7.

Ubuntu Installation :: Intel T4500 Labtop Install?

Labtop is a Acer Aspire 5736z-4427 with a Intel T4500 processor. Now I know it is not 'officially' listed as a certified notebook, is that the reason why it's not running the disc? Or should I try re-burning a disc and try again? I'm trying to install Ubuntu's latest version btw.

Ubuntu Installation :: Gnome Init Freezes In 9.10 On New Intel DH55TC

Jan 13, 2010

I just purchased a new Intel DH55TC motherboard, a Core i5-661 processor, a WD Caviar Green 640GB drive, and a Linksys WMP110 card. I was able to successfully install 9.10, but every time it loads to the desktop it freezes. It seems like it may be an ACPI problem with the built-in H55 graphics card on the CPU. I hit 'e' at the grub prompt, and added 'noacpi' to the end of both the kernel (or linux?) line and the initrd line. WHen I did that, I was able to get to a point that it was fully loaded and I could move the mouse around, but as soon as I opened a menu, like 'Applications', the desktop froze again.

(NOTE: I have today's daily 10.04 on a USB, and will try that next as a live disk)
