View 9 Replies View RelatedI've recently been trying to put Centos on a PC which I have had Windows 2000 server on up until now. The system has an Intel SCSI RAID Controller which seems to be successfully detected before the graphical stage is reached. The system is fairly old now and consists of a p3 processor and 320mb of ram. However when the installer reaches the point of launching Anaconda in graphical mode it seems to start to load but then the system immediately boots itself down Quoting an Abnormal Setup Termination however gives no more details than that. I have tried changing the graphics card to no effect. I am not sure if anyone knows what could be causing the problem the media also shuld be ok as I have used it successfully on other systems.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem with my Core i5 system running Centos 5.5. The system will lock up with a black screen on occasion when launching X11 - this could happen at any time, from the install CD the first time it's being installed or trying a live CD, or the 3rd-10th time I launch startx from tty1 or sometimes just switching from tty1 to display0 or display1. When the crash occurs, sometimes the systems fans will all turn on loud, and the reset button becomes non-responsive. Other times the screen is black and it just sits there and I have to hard power off. There's nothing in /var/log/messages.
I tried a fix from an old post for 5.4 adding the option for "DDC" "false" in the xorg.conf file, and this did not help. I also ran all the system updates, no help.
The system is totally stable so long as I don't switch between ttys and X11 or launch new X11s (it's also stable under other OSs and has passed Memtest86+ 4).
Is this an instability with the Core i5 driver? The "Video Card" in the display options is set to "intel - Experimental modesetting driver for Intel Integrated Graphics Chipsets" - the "experimental" part is a little scary. Should I try setting the driver to "i810" as the 5.5 release notes recommends (again there's no onboard "chipset" this is an embedded graphics processor on the i5 CPU).

So before natty, firefox 4 interface fonts matched the rest of my apps, but now they are huge! See the screen-shot to see what I mean. Anyone know how to get them to match again?
I think some of the browser fonts changed as well, but I know I can change them in the options menu.
I just upgraded to 10.10 and I was previously able to run the following command in startup applications preferences menu "command" box to have firefox launch around the time that my wireless card came up:
sleep 20; firefox
For some reason this doesn't work anymore. I can run the command from the terminal and it works fine. Is there something that I'm missing?
I think "Absolute Beginners" is not the best place for it to get an answer. It might take a while to get moved. I installed Ubuntu 10.10 on a clean drive afyer an issue with 10.04 I couldn't resolve. The attched screen shot shows the error that happens when I launch Firefox. WHat is it, and how do I correct it. I can't find a setting for SSL or anything that might be turned off in firefox, so I guess it's an UBUNTU thing?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've installed SuSE 64 11.3 (with updates) as a new installation 4 times because of video driver problems. On the 3rd installation Firefox crashes. I had no difficulties with 11.2 with the same hardware. I followed CAF's suggestion to another user to add it to the repo list and run a zypper install. No difference. I've added no new hardware. I then re-installed SuSE and made no changes to any setting or driver, but again, no Firefox continues to crash.

I just upgraded to Natty on a (almost brand new) HP pavilion dm4t. I'm finding that it crashes pretty frequently, in a variety of ways that might or might not be related.
1) Sometimes (every 2-3 days) it will just blink out and go back to the login screen. This usually happens within a minute or so of logging in. If I log in again after this, it will usually crash again. A restart of the system typically will make the problem go away for at least a few sessions.
2) If I leave the computer on for a while, the screensaver will freeze and nothing can get me back to the desktop. Processes seem to still be running behind it (I left some music playing once and the music continued to play, but the screen was black and I couldn't get back to my desktop - I had to do a hard shutdown)
3) A perhaps unrelated problem, every ten sessions or so when I log in the indicator applet will be gone and an error telling me that indicator applet failed to load (or something to this effect)
Btw I'm using ubuntu classic rather than unity (just because I like it better). I haven't used Unity enough to know whether these problems also occur with it.
I just upgraded to 11.04 and I'm having problem with Totem.
When I load a movie it crashes, and prints this message to the terminal code...
I tried to remove and install it again but it wasn't fixed.
This problem did not occur in 10.10.

Anyone having problems with the theme crashing using natty in virtualbox 4? I log in and you see the default ubuntu theme, then about 5 seconds it switches to an older gnome light theme and can't be switched back. Every once in a while, possibly due to updates or something it stays on the correct theme, but as soon as I restart the vm, it starts happening again.

I'm running Natty with a dual-boot setup and I wasn't having any problems about a month ago, but I started only running windows for a while more often, but now when I play around with Ubuntu, flash will not work on any site in FF or Chrome. Each time it says: 'The following plugin has crashed, Shockwave Flash'.
I've searched a lot and tried different things to fix the problem, but nothing is seeming to work. It's so weird though cause it had been working and now nothing I do is making it work.
I have had Natty installed for sometime now, and this happened once or twice before where it crashes all of a sudden to a black screen with some text on it, but I don't think there is anything particularly useful in the text. The problem is, in the last couple of days this has happened quite a few times, which shows that something is wrong.

I recently upgraded (via Ubuntuzilla) to firefox 3.5.7 and now, every single time I close Firefox, the program seems to crash without quitting completely.
First, I receive an error saying that the program will not close and asks me if I want to Force Quite or Wait for it to close on its own. This has been happening ever since I upgraded to Karmic and if I just wait it usually quits fully after a couple seconds.
Now what happens is this: the window still closes, but if I try to reopen Firefox then I get this error stating that Firefox is already open and therefore cannot be opened again. The only way to get back into Firefox is to restart the entire computer. (Incidentally, this is the same problem that occurs whenever I try to Force Quit Firefox)
This now happens every single time I "close" Firefox.
Does anyone know the source of this error? Or a workaround?
Since I have updated last night from maverick to the latest beta of natty narwal, I'm having a lot of trouble getting Nautilus (desktop included) to work.
It seems to crash since the very start as when I turn off the computer, the message of "force exit" appears.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got three user accounts, 10.10 running on eeepc. Two of them work relatively well, but the on the third one firefox keeps crushing every 10 seconds or to be more precise every 2~3 link clicks.
There is a firefox crash info but no specific problem is being suggested. Same goes for terminal - clear.
Doesn't matter if I delete the 'old' third user and put new one. FF behaves always the same on fresh account. It also affects minefield.
I'm having a problem with Firefox going dark (application so busy it stops responding) while it is loading web sites. When I switch to the terminal and do "top", it shows "compiz" and "Xorg" as the most busy applications. I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 and Firefox 3.6.17. Anyone have an idea of what might be causing this?

Firefox stays open for a few seconds and then dies and won't restart. Google Chrome keeps giving me the "Aw, Snap!" screen. Seamonkey and Epiphany run for a while and then crash. After some research, I uninstalled Flash, but that didn't change anything.On a possibly related note, I've been informed of disk errors during boot and prompted to fix them twice in the same two week period.

Not always in the same websites, but it always happens sometime in the first 2 or 3 minutes of running. I can see the hard disk led is ON all the time the browser is hung.
My operating system is Linux and I don't currently have any extension/plugin installed here.
I have no form completion, no history and have no more than 20-30 bookmarks.
Has somebody noticed something similar, or know how can I debug this to find out what Firefox is doing or trying to do?
We're currently running a web site on CentOS 5.5 running Apache - Tomcat - Mysql. A part of the web site runs slowly or it would appear to be.
The part in question returns records from mysql about approx 200 - 400 rows of data.
The first point of call was the SQL database we've managed to fine tune this. The problem I have is with IE7 and IE8 when I run Firefox or IE6 SP2 the rows return in about 9 seconds. I use IE7 or IE8 and it takes about 20 - 25 seconds.
Could this be an APACHE problem?
