Ubuntu Installation :: Installed Program Not Listed Under Wine
Jan 27, 2010
My Proteus which i installed through wine does not appear in uninstall wine software and it also does not work because you have to execute some license file which i did not figure out how to work it out.
I am new to fedora and installed wine to see if I could get the sony reader software working (required to access sony bookstore from my sony ereader). Well the program did not work though it did create icons on my desktop. wine kept crashing and I said lets just get rid of it. I uninstalled wine via yum remove and nothing appeared to happen so I did rpm -qa |grep wine and saw lots of stuff. So I simply did yum remove wine* and then a rpm -qa |grep wine was empty. however wine is still under applications on my desktop and still has a category for programs--reader. I should also mention that while wine was installed I attempted to remove the reader via the wine uninstalller but a) wine gave a message of a core crash and b) all the uninstaller did was give me the option to reinstall the reader program. so now when I attempt to open an epub it tries with the sony reader software. I know I can just right click to use another program but for now I want wine gone completely from my pc and the sony program gone.
I attempted to install Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 under Wine and it failed. Then I read a thread that offered some tweaks. But now when I try to install all that it offers to do is UNinstall. I thought I could UNinstall and then reinstall, but no...It fails to UNinstall too...just as it failed to install. So I'm wondering how to remove this (the command line way) from the system. I tried "yum remove wine" and when I put wine back, like a phantom, the same problem was there. I tried removing the entire .wine directory in my home folder...same problem.
I installed a game (Shredder 11) using Wine on my Ubuntu system. The installation seemed to go well, including the directx part, but when I want to run the game, I can't find it anywhere. It's not in Applications -> Wine, it's not on Wine's C: drive, and I even tried a search "find / -name shredder", which came up empty. I tried to install it again, but according to the installation program it is already installed! (It asked me if I wanted to modify, repair, etc..).
When I try to open something in gnome, say, a file format it does not recognise, I get the usual "open with..." dialog. There, I see many duplicates of wine programs, such as Windows Media Player, or Wine core exe, wine windows program loader, etc.For example, the "Windows Media Player" is listed at least 10 times in that dialog. How can I remove these duplicates?
How can I uninstall / purge wine and any wine installed windows programs?I've tried deleting .wine (hidden folder)but in /usr/bin/ there are a number of wine related files. And wine sub menu still appears in Applications menu
I downloaded Wine from [URL] and installed Wine 1.1.32 and it stated that I'm missing a file can anyone tell me what the deal is? do I need something more or ignore it?
I've downloaded & installed WINE via YUM, as root, but can't seem to find the file afterward? Where can it possibly be located? I'm using regular user account now. Or must I be root to find it? Source: [URL]
I am trying to install a program named "Ntrip" with wine, running Linux Mint 10 64bit (based on Ubuntu 10.04) I installed the software without problems, when I try to start it I get the following error:
Code:
fixme:actctx:parse_manifest_buffer root element is L"asmv1:assembly", not <assembly> wine: Install the Windows version of Mono to run .NET executables
As far as I know, mono is by default on every Ubuntu 10.04 installation, however as per the error message, I installed the Windows version of Mono via Wine successfully. Trying to start the program again, still coming up with above error.
I've got a program in /usr/local/bin/envy24control I just installed it using .configure, make install because there was no Slackware package for it. envy24control does not show up under KDE Multimedia where it should be, so I have to start a terminal program, and start in on the command line. How do I get /usr/local/bin/envy24control listed in KDE Multimedia so I can use the mouse to start it ?
I installed Fedora13. But my Windows is Gone. I followed Next-->Next and completed installation after 1 hour. When i restarted the system, isaw blue screen something called grub and windows is not listed. I had important data in it where did it go?
i just upgraded to ubuntu 10.04 the netbook distro. at the desktop view there is a list of about 10 buttons/menus listed on the left hand side, is there anyway to control what buttons/menus are listed and which icons are listed under each of them? having a netbook i would like to remove and unclutter the desktop view as much as possible but i dont want to remove those apps i still want to be able to open those apps if i want to even if by removing those icons and menus/buttons makes it a pain.
I've downloaded and installed WINE, works well with most windows programs I run. I recently downloaded a program called METT (micro expression training tool), and apparently it needs a disc to be ran. Well, I installed KISO and mounted the image there, but I still can't get it to run.
I have wine installed on Ubuntu 10.04. I am trying to get Quicken 2004 installed with the installation cd. I open the cd to go to the Install.exe file. Right click on the that file and tell it to: Open with wine windows program loader. I get the following window:The file '/media/QW04BASR1/install.exe' is not marked as executable. If this was downloaded or copied form an untrusted source, it may be dangerous to run. For more details, read about the executable bit.Ok, I go to read about executable bit. Looks like I need to change the permission of it. Won't let me do it. Says:Sorry, could not change the permissions of "install.exe": Error setting permissions: Read-only file system Ok, look up and see that it is a read only. Click to change that to the only other option: Read & Write. What do I need to do here? I have never had this problem installing Quicken in wine before using previous versions of Ubuntu.
I recently got a new netbook and the first thing I did was install ubuntu along side the XP install. The problem I'm running into right now is when I try to install a statistics program that I need for class I get an error. There is a popup labeled RegUtil with the error "Run-time error '5': Invalid procedure call or argument" and in the terminal window there is the message "wine: cannot find L"C:\windows\system32\netsh.exe."
After uninstalling WINE through by clicking on the uninstall button in the installed programs section I found there still lingered in the "open with other programs option" a list of wine exe. and WINE which of course do nothing now. How can I completely uninstall the WINE program?
I installed Wine no problem. Then I downloaded a Windows Chess program(ECTool) to the desktop. I right clicked on the ECTool icon and checked run with Wine. The program came up just fine and I could make moves on the chessboard, but no information was saved. I got a blank screen under games in progress. Anyone use this program or have any ideas what to do next? ECTool is listed as a program that works with Wine.
I have Wine installed in ubuntu/Kubuntu Jaunty and I can play games like Roller Coaster Tycoon fine in it (it works great and has sound) but when I try to use my disk for Ear training (which is an .exe file) I can view/use the program perfectly except there is no sound, the disk works in the school computers so I know its not faulty, but the sound just doesn't work in Wine.
I changed the format in Wine to all the different Windows (Vista, XP, 2000, etc.) and the sound didn't work in them either, everything in Alsa mixer is turned up 100% and I've tested it with both my head phones and computer speakers, but theres never any sound.
I want to now is it possible to use and how to configure to work program My Heritage try Wine? Please help its important to me.P.S I'am totaly noob regarding Ubuntu netbook remix
As a newbie, I'll probably be asking some absurd questions. I'm running Ubuntu 9.10. I downloaded Movie Organizer 2.7.7 and installed it with WINE. Now it will not run because it needs MDAC. Is there an MDAC program available which might help? Otherwise, how can I remove this program? It is not listed under installed programs in the Ubuntu Software Center, but is under the Applications as an "other" program.
I only use it to run a program off of CD, not an installed application. This same program ran fine with wine under Fedora 10 & 11, but not on Fedora 12. I installed wine with:
Code: yum install wine as root. When I try to execute the program, it shows the little bouncing wine icon and all, but then wine disappears. Also, when I looked at the wine configuration, the configuration program crashed/hung. I had to kill it via the System Monitor. I'm on a KDE desktop with hardware acceleration, and Fedora 12 x86_64.
I'm trying to setup Baldur's Gate in Wine and it's giving me this error: "There is no Windows program configured to run that type of file". I've enabled the file to be allowed to run as an executable, and the program is completely uncorrupted - I just installed it on another computer with Windows.
I have WINE installed and need to mount some disc image files, I posted in general help because this is just relating to the mounting. I have various formats other that .iso, i have .img, .ccd, .bin, etc. How would I would go about doing this? I have something called gmount-iso but it only mounts iso's.
I can't remove nor uninstall the wine programs. I have tried the uninstaller that comes with wine but it doesnt work. How can I remove them from the start menu and the uninstall list as if they never existed on my pc? The only thing I can do is to remove the files.
is it possible to use a terminal to install/run currently installed WINE apps...? if so, please let me know how to do so, i'm trying to run my guild wars game client, and its saying that the program doesn't have sufficient priveleges to run...
EDIT: i think i figured it out, but it gives me this code:
