I installed Fedora13. But my Windows is Gone. I followed Next-->Next and completed installation after 1 hour. When i restarted the system, isaw blue screen something called grub and windows is not listed. I had important data in it where did it go?

I don't really have any Linux experience. But I wanted to try it out. Now I'm afraid I did not set this up properly. Grub gives me 3 options:
Fedora (2.6.38.8-32.fc15.x86_64)
Fedora (2.6.38.8-26.rc1.fc15.x86_64)
Other
When I select <Other> to boot into windows... it starts to try to boot... but then flashes a quick blue screen & restarts. I tried to boot into Window's normal mode, safe mode, and command line... all just restart fdisk -l gives the following:

Has anyone managed to do a dual boot with W2K and a linux system without a resulting blue screen of death on the Windows partition? What I mean is only W2K and Linux, not one with XP. I think there is a difference in the bootloaders of XP and W2K.

2: When I boot I don't get a boot image, only a blinking cursor in the upper left corner. Not a big deal, but I would like to have a normal boot image. Any ideas how to fix it? I tried googling but I only find old threads. My laptop is a Acer Aspire 7735Z
Graphic card is ATI Radeon HD 4570. BTW; I got no other problems what so ever. Everything works great really.
I have a Compaq CQ40-616TU Laptop. I have installed fedora 11 64 bit more then 20 times and facing the same problems. The Problems are
1) After booting into the fedora it get hanged up and blue screen with the logo of fedora.
2) Some time it shows message that "Could not update /var/lib/gdm/.IC Eauthirity"
3) I have also updated through yum but still facing the same problem
4) I have also tried fedora 12 but during installation process it shows message that no suitable hardware found.
Ever since the intro of Grub2, on the main Log-in screen, there is a "User" listed at the bottom of whoever is listed on the Users Log-in. Just what or who is this used for?. If it is 'clicked' on, then it asks for a password, as if 'it' is some kind of "user". But, as I don't know just what 'it' is for, therefore I also don't know 'its' password either.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI had Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and used the Upgrader to go to 10.10. After it went through downloading and installing Ubuntu, it wanted me to restart. Upon restarting and picking Ubuntu in the Boot Options, it says something is missing in NTFS called wiulibsomething then it goes to this cmd type screen with grub>. I have used Linux for about three weeks now, and I think one of the threads after me has already talked about this and I'm really not sure how any of this works. I don't want to sound dumb, but yeah, I've used Windows all my life and I'm clueless how to fix this. EDIT: Error is Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB possible device or file completions.

I am at the end of my wits: I downloaded a liveCD, which will not boot. My XP cd boots but gets a blue screen afterwards I downloaded a windows 7 live cd which did not help either
Problem is, I can't load my bios anymore to change the boot order... Didn't even know Grub was part of linux...
Point is, I got a presentation tomorrow and all my important files are on that laptop. . . the setroot=(hd0,0) gives no response. I tried a bunch of other commands but I keep getting unknown command...
I have two listing of windows 7 listed in Grub (I'm not sure why.) and I would like to know how to remove one if I can.

I get a quick blue screen, and then it goes back to the grub menu. Ubuntu boots just fine. I occasionally have reason to boot into Windows. So it would be nice to get it working. I have tried dual booting Ubuntu 9.10 and W2K two times and this has resulted in a blue screen of death in the Windows partition. I have subsequently had to wipe Linux and restore Windows using fdisk/ mbr.
The MBR was set to hd0, but should this be installed on the Linux or Windows partition to prevent this?
If I try and install, any distro on a ide External hard drive, Will I still get a Bootup Grub installed on my internal Windows MBR. I am thinking the answer is yes.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just installed Ubuntu using Wubi and I am having problems with it. I am running an x58 Rampage II Gene with a radeon hd4850. I'm using a polaroid tlx-04240b hdtv for my monitor. After installing via wubi when I select ubuntu from grub I just get a blue screen that says no signal. I had the same problems before when I tried installing ubuntu and I finally gave up after messing with it for a while. Anyhow I finally started trying to figure it out again and I am brand new to linux so i really dont have a clue what to do here. I'm about 70% sure the problem is just the resolution being to high or the proper driver not installed but as i said I've never successfully used linux so i just dont know how to fix it.

I have tried several different versions of Fedora (64bit and 32bit) and have tried to burn it to a CD and/or DVD (For the larger version) and copying it to a usb pen with universal linux usb, liveUSB creator (from Fedora) and last one i don't remember the name on.

I restarted my computer and when it was restarting ubuntu logo came up (as it booted from the disc). I was not wanting to install it at this moment so i was waiting for it to load then cancel it(just like a windows installation).It then froze and became pixelated with green and white colours.I thought it was nothing maybe just an error in teh disc. I waited 5-10 minutes then held the power button to shut it off. I then went to settings in the bios and changed it to boot from hdd first. After restart, windows began to load for like 3 seconds then blue screen. Have had it installed and Acer Veriton for a while but after last yum update it now hangs on the blue screen with the F bubble in the middle. I can login remotely OK but am not sure what to look for. It seems to be something X11 related but I'm not sure. I would post the relevant logs but am not sure which ones are associated with this problem.

Now the Fedora boot just hangs up at the plain blue "f" screen. I have been prodding around looking at the problem of having no WLAN under Fedora but have not knowingly made any changes. I thought about just doing a re-install but am reluctant to risk messing things up further i.e damaging the Windows until I have Fedora working ok.

Everything has been working just fine until this morning when I booted up the computer and it hung at the blue screen with the F bubble in the middle. I have done this in Windows by enabling a service called 'routing'.Is there something similar in Fedora 11? Ive been running windows 7/Ubuntu dualboot for some years now and never had any problems.Some months ago I got a new Patriot Inferno ssd. Ofc the first thing I did was to installl windows 7, it had no problems, ran fast and smooth. Then when I reinstalled grub I started to get error when trying to start windows, the logo never apeared and all I got was the message "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software"Status: 0x00.00F" "Info: The boot selection failed because a required device was inaccessible.". It does not matter what order I install windows and ubuntu in, or how many times Ive tried to reinstall grub. Windows 7 will not work while I have grub/windows installed. Right now Ive got them installed on separate drives, ubuntu on the ssd and windows on a partition on a 1tb hdd. Unfortunately I need to have windows for .net programing and gaming..

Since I see on my Centos 5 system, when using the Gnome Terminal, there is no 'Find' feature, do I use grep to search the output on Gnome Terminal?
I see grep syntax is:grep search-term file
But what do I use as the 'file' when what I want to search is the contents of the gnome terminal screen?If there is a good terminal program that does have a 'find' feature, let me know.
