Ubuntu :: WINE, Program Not Starting Up?
Jan 21, 2010I installed Wine, and installed my printer Epson Tx110 scan program afterwards, but I cant get the program to run at all? Did I do anything wrong?

Fedora :: Remove Wine And Wine Installed Program?
Nov 19, 2010I am new to fedora and installed wine to see if I could get the sony reader software working (required to access sony bookstore from my sony ereader). Well the program did not work though it did create icons on my desktop. wine kept crashing and I said lets just get rid of it. I uninstalled wine via yum remove and nothing appeared to happen so I did rpm -qa |grep wine and saw lots of stuff. So I simply did yum remove wine* and then a rpm -qa |grep wine was empty. however wine is still under applications on my desktop and still has a category for programs--reader. I should also mention that while wine was installed I attempted to remove the reader via the wine uninstalller but a) wine gave a message of a core crash and b) all the uninstaller did was give me the option to reinstall the reader program. so now when I attempt to open an epub it tries with the sony reader software. I know I can just right click to use another program but for now I want wine gone completely from my pc and the sony program gone.

Software :: Starting Firebird Database From Wine Windows-based Application
Oct 1, 2009I have a Windows-only language lab program ('Logolab') which provides students with listen and repeat exercises on audio and video material loaded by the teacher. It operates in conjuction with a Firebird database which stores subtitles (I think) and the sequencing data (the lengths of each segment) for recording (a recorded piece will be subdivided into small audio/video segments during which the student repeats what's been said).The audio and video functions are run internally by Windows Media Player, and the video input must be in .WMV format for the system to function.Using Wine, I've managed to install the language lab program on Ubuntu, as well as the Firebird database program. However, each time I start the language lab program, I get the message "Firebird database not started!".There is a BIN folder with the language lab software that contains a .INI file with the following contents:
Perhaps that needs to be modified for Linux or Wine on Linux? I've tried changing the DataBase field with the Linux path to the appropriate .FDB file, and likewise the ServerName field to the Ubuntu computer name or the ip address, but to no avail. Lately, I've installed the Linux version of Firebird and Flame Robin (which I couldn't understand).If anyone can provide any help or suggestions, I'd be most grateful (it's the only thing preventing me from migrating 100% to Linux).

Jul 19, 2011So basically, for my research I need to use Gadget2. The only problem is, I have no idea how to "install" it, I guess. I've looked in the user help guide but I think it was written more or less for those that actually know what they're doing, hence why my research professor doubted my abilities to get it running.
So, I've downloaded all that .tar.gz files and gotten rid of the .gz part and now I have a bunch of .tar files (Gadget2.0.7, gsl-1.15, fftw-3.2.2, openmpi-1.4.3 and hdf5-1.8.7-freebsd-static). I've also done the whole tar -xvf thing to just extract the files and now I have 5 folders. I looked in their help guides and I think I might've done something right 'cause now I have some lib folders and some etc and some share ones.
I think my message passing interface is operational because every time I shut down my computer now there's this weird screen about some pretty harmless looking stuff like my computer is openly passing messages so I think I'm fine there. But how do I make sure all the other stuff is good? I've tried installing and configuring (maybe not in that order, mind you) but I'm still kinda lost.

How can I start the program from the SSH terminal so that it opens on the desktop, and then stays open even after I log out of SSH.

Mar 22, 2010I have a dual-monitor setup. I have some programs which I would like to start automatically. I each one to start up full screen on a particular monitor, in a particular workspace. Then I can use the workspace facilities to easily switch between the programs, and they will always appear on the correct monitor, in the correct workspace. (At least one of the programs (VMWare Workstation) does not seem to be startable using the facilities to save the current session on logout.)

Nov 27, 2009I installed Wine no problem. Then I downloaded a Windows Chess program(ECTool) to the desktop. I right clicked on the ECTool icon and checked run with Wine. The program came up just fine and I could make moves on the chessboard, but no information was saved. I got a blank screen under games in progress. Anyone use this program or have any ideas what to do next? ECTool is listed as a program that works with Wine.

Jan 2, 2010I have Wine installed in ubuntu/Kubuntu Jaunty and I can play games like Roller Coaster Tycoon fine in it (it works great and has sound) but when I try to use my disk for Ear training (which is an .exe file) I can view/use the program perfectly except there is no sound, the disk works in the school computers so I know its not faulty, but the sound just doesn't work in Wine.
I changed the format in Wine to all the different Windows (Vista, XP, 2000, etc.) and the sound didn't work in them either, everything in Alsa mixer is turned up 100% and I've tested it with both my head phones and computer speakers, but theres never any sound.

Now it will not run because it needs MDAC. Is there an MDAC program available which might help? Otherwise, how can I remove this program? It is not listed under installed programs in the Ubuntu Software Center, but is under the Applications as an "other" program.

Mar 25, 2010Suddenly within the last 4-5 days my mail-notification program stopped starting.Googling the error really doesn't give much help, it sounds like the same error message is in tens of libraries.Anyone know what might be going on?Running Ubuntu Jaunty, and already tried reinstalling the program. It's the normal mail-notification from the Add/Remove Programs thing.
Apparently it only does this when it tries to connect to the internet. It runs fine when I'm not connected, but crashes as soon as I hit refresh. (And also crashes at startup when I'm already connected to the internet.)

Jul 22, 2010After running for a while, often after starting a program that displays graphics, such as Shutter, Gimp, Ocular, or maybe simply having previews in Dolphin (as some of my folders default to large previews)most menus, and some windows will go completely black. Some simply grey out (only ksystemlog does this that I have noticed so far)Blindly clicking anywhere on top title bar has no effect (would expect minimize/maximize etc to work if hitAlt-leftmouse or alt-middlemouse will allow window move/resize - black actively conforms to new window size/shape.

Fedora :: Wine - Can't Run Program Properly
Nov 19, 2009I only use it to run a program off of CD, not an installed application. This same program ran fine with wine under Fedora 10 & 11, but not on Fedora 12. I installed wine with:
Code: yum install wine as root. When I try to execute the program, it shows the little bouncing wine icon and all, but then wine disappears. Also, when I looked at the wine configuration, the configuration program crashed/hung. I had to kill it via the System Monitor. I'm on a KDE desktop with hardware acceleration, and Fedora 12 x86_64.
SUSE :: Starting A Program With Multiple Versions Installed
Feb 11, 2011I have matlab installed on a network (I am not the administrator) and we usually start the program by typing "matlab", then choosing one of the version options from the menu i.e. typing "n". So because of this, trying to run matlab programs or commands directly like this... matlab -r ProgramName
...does not work. I just get the menu as usual and everything else is ignored. I assume the admin has overridden the matlab command with their own custom script. So my question is can I start a specific version of the program by specifying the folder that the version is in? I thought it might be something like /opt/matlab/version -r programname
this might look foolish, but I am a bit of a linux noob. Let me know if I should just ask my administrator but I thought there might be something easy I am missing.

As far as I know, mono is by default on every Ubuntu 10.04 installation, however as per the error message, I installed the Windows version of Mono via Wine successfully. Trying to start the program again, still coming up with above error.
