I've got a program in /usr/local/bin/envy24control I just installed it using .configure,make install because there was no Slackware package for it. envy24control does not show up under KDE Multimedia where it should be, so I have to start a terminal program, and start in on the command line. How do I get /usr/local/bin/envy24control listed in KDE Multimedia so I can use the mouse to start it ?

View 1 Replies View Relatedi just upgraded to ubuntu 10.04 the netbook distro. at the desktop view there is a list of about 10 buttons/menus listed on the left hand side, is there anyway to control what buttons/menus are listed and which icons are listed under each of them? having a netbook i would like to remove and unclutter the desktop view as much as possible but i dont want to remove those apps i still want to be able to open those apps if i want to even if by removing those icons and menus/buttons makes it a pain.

I just installed Karmic. My HDSP is detected (listed in aplay -l and alsamixer) and the firmware is loaded. No errors from dmesg.
Yet no sound... It is not listed in the Sound Preferences GUI.
I know the subject title makes it seem like this should be something on the Slackware forums but I think it can be generalized to other 64-bit Linux operating systems which is why I ask here. I'm running Slackware 13.37 64-bit and was wondering if I use Wine to run a Windows program (with multilib files), would it still run as if it had been used on a 64-bit computer?

Although previously correctly recognized and fully functional, after installing several non- audio updates, the sound from my USB speakers ceased.Moreover, this pair of Logitech Z-5 USB speakers aren't even listed on the Sound menu (System > Preferences > Sound) although lsusb lists them correctly. I have an embedded sound adapter to which no speakers are connected. My PC runs on Ubuntu 10.04. What should I do to get the sound through my USB speakers?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've just bought a new rig. The graphics card (as listed in the title) is a ATI Radeon HD 5830. With the normal out of the box drivers I can get a resolution of 1366x768 (The native resolution of my 32inch panel) but the 3D performance isn't good.With the ATI proprietary drivers installed 1366x768 isn't in the options (The ATI menu and the normal one)So I need to generate an xorg.conf and add the resolution?[edit] OK so I checked to see if the 3D performance was any better with the proprietary drivers (despite the funky resolution) and it caused Minecraft (The only game I really play under Linux) to freeze on startup. I think what I'll do is stick with the Radeon Open Source driver (which runs all the visual effects nicely anyway) and just do all my gaming in Windows

View 1 Replies View RelatedMPlayer was working just fine last night, but today I'm having problems which may be due to me performing a system update. I noticed that MPlayer was no longer listed in my Applications menu and I no longer had the option of opening videos with it. However, I now had Gnome MPlayer which must have been installed with the update because I never installed it. Whilst going through Synaptic, I found that the MPlayer GUI had been removed, so I re-installed it. However nothing happened when I attempted to open videos with it.
When I tried to use it through the terminal I got the error message:
mplayer: relocation error: mplayer: symbol codec_wav_tags, version LIBAVFORMAT_52 not defined in file libavformat.so.52 with link time reference
I found a bug report on this very problem here [URL]. The conclusion was that the person filing the bug report was using a version of ffmpeg not found in Debian and that he'd need a version of MPlayer built with his version of ffmpeg libs. I'm assuming that this is also the case with me, however I'm not sure how to go about finding a build or simply building a version of MPlayer with whatever version of ffmpeg that I'm using. For reference, I'm using Squeeze.
I have a suspicion that this is easily fixed, however a good google (and this forum) hammering having turned up the fix. So I probably have the wrong search criteria, My Gnome Applet for switching CPU Frequency Scaling has 'disappeared' and is not listed in the the Add to Panel.. list of applets.

I'm working in CentOS 5.4 with the default 2.6.18-164 kernel (which I will be editing but have reverted back to in order to solve this problem.)
Near the end of the init script I have thrown a /bin/sh to get into a busybox bash shell in order to test some scripts. Ive attached the init below.
While in this shell I can see my usb drive in /proc/bus/usb/devices and my hard drive in /proc/scsi/device_info however I cannot mount them as they are not in /dev.
I have scsi emulation set in the kernel. When I plug in a USB stick it finds the address but still no sign of it in /dev. There are other modules listed in /sys/module such as usbcore that dont show up in lsmod, is that possibly the problem?

I recently updated my computer Using 9.10 and I updated on the 14th. Before the update my sound was working great. No problems, but afterwards my sound is completely gone and under hardware when I click the sound option on the speaker icon I get nothing listed under hardware.

For instance, and here I am showing my ignorance, but surely if I download a program source, shouldn't the resultant binary following compiling and building be a result of the platform it is built on, or does the source code include references to whether it is a 32 or 64 bit program.
