Ubuntu Installation :: How To Get 3d In The Xf86-ati-drivers

HOW TO GET 3d with the XF86-ati-driver
install from source the 2.6.32-r2 kernel
upgrade Xorg-server to 2.17.999
install from git libDRM-2.4.17
install from git mesa-7.7
install from git the xf86-ati-driver-9999
unless you KNOW what you are doing dont do this, you will also have to recompile KDE/gnome ( so I guess you have to install that from git as well )ooo I forgot the reason why I posted this. Doing this is NOT worth it, I did it and when I went to play a 3d game it renders shadows poorly and some reflections are rendered upside down.If you want 3d accelleration with an ATI card, you MUST install the FGLRX proprietary driver.

When I first installed Ubuntu 10.04, my XF86 buttons worked perfectly with Totem. I could pause, stop, fast forward, etc with no problems. I would prefer to use VLC or something as my media player, but I could not figure out how to get these media buttons to work so I just stuck with Totem.
Well, within the last couple of weeks my XF86 buttons have run into some issues. If Totem is in the foreground, they all still work perfectly, but if Totem is minimized or not the focus window the buttons no longer interact with it in any way. My volume keys still control the system volume with no problems. If I am working in emacs and I press the play/pause button emacs will print the error "<XF86AudioPlay> is undefined". So I know that the system is getting the commands, but they aren't being sent to the right windows. Is this an X11 problem? gstreamer?

I've installed 10.04 netbook on an old Fujitsu Amilo L1300 laptop, with an Intel i845 graphic card. As I know, it would run just OK with the 2.11.0 drivers, but i have no idea how to install that. I've downloaded the driver, and every package written on the page: [URL] At first I couldn't even ./configure the install, but now the configuration runs smoothly. However I cannot finish the make part, because it gives an error.
Quote:
sentor@laptop:~/Documents/xf86-video-intel-2.11.0$ make
make all-recursive
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/sentor/Documents/xf86-video-intel-2.11.0'
Making all in uxa
[Code].....
I've been working on it for four days now, and as much as I'd love to continue it, I've run out of time.
Or if there's a way to use the 2.12.0 driver, then could somebody tell me how?

I have an ATI Radeon HD 4850 running on Arch Linux with the xf86-video-ati driver.
Is there any way to control the fan speed (from a conf. file, the command line, whatever) or should I change to the Catalyst driver?

I have been using ubuntu for quite a long time, and for the first time, I am now unable to set nvidia drivers to work. I have just install ubuntu 9.10 amd64 on an AMD 64 athlong X2 with a GEForce 6500 nvidia card.
The only reason I need the proprietary drivers is to use two monitors.
I am going crazy, I have tested everything I have found on the web. I have tried all the nvidia drivers version, I have tried envyng, ... but nvidia do not work!!
I am trying Xinerama with nv, but it does not work either!!!
Here is my xorg.conf file in which I have tried to use nv driver to set dual monitor. X fails to load and it says that screen 0 is deleted, that devices are found but there are no matches in the config file. Any clue?

I installed Xubuntu the other night (completely wiped machine) and started doing all the updates on it. After a couple of reboots, I changed from the proprietary drivers, to the regular nVidia drivers. After doing this, the startup logo is displayed at a really low resolution. Is there a simple fix to change this and use the nVidia drivers as well?

I've installed Ubuntu Netbook 10.04 on my HP DV2000 laptop and now I want to get my wireless to work by installing the proprietary broadcom drivers (4311, I think). But my internet doesn't work yet obviously, so I need to download the drivers to my thumb drive on my desktop and install them on my non-networked laptop. My issue is that I don't know:a) Where to get the driversb) How to install them from a local drive

I just installed Karmic beta and I'm having issues with getting my wireless driver to work. When I was using 9.04 and when I booted 9.10 from a CD, I could just go to System > Administration > Hardware Drivers and activate a wireless driver and everything would be just peachy. The problem is that, in the install of 9.10 beta, no drivers appear when I load the Hardware Drivers GUI, so I can't get wireless internet.
Is there anything I can do besides wait a few days for the full release of 9.10 and hope that solves the issue?

I have got to install nvidia 260.19.12 drivers in ubuntu 10.10 64 bit. I have got a GTX 460, so I think these are the right drivers [URl]..The question is: how do I download and install 260.19.12 drivers? I would need a step by step guide, because I'm not familiar at all with Ubuntu, so it can be difficult for me, even if I will try my best.

When I run the liveCD (which I'm on right now), it shows proprietary drivers for my wireless hardware. I installed 10.04 from the liveCD onto my laptop, and after the install, it says there aren't any drivers. Is there a way I can pull the drivers from the liveCD, or should I try a reinstall?

I recently decided to install Ubuntu 11.04 on a 320gb hitachi sata hard drive. This is going into a new system with an Asus MB, AMD Proc, not sure if this matters. Anyway I can not set the bios to use ahci and see the sata drive. I can only use IDE mode with sata enabled. Asus support says to install ahci for os. If I boot into the USB install key and attempt to the install OS I receive a read/write error. I have another drive on IDE that has 11.04 on it and if I try to format the new drive and partition it with Disk Utility it fails with "Error formatting drive: error creating partition table: helper exited with exit code 1: error calling fsync(2) on /dev/sdb: Input/output error". I have tried to use dd and fdisk but I don't believe I need these until I do something else first just not sure how or where to look.

After installing I could not boot. In reading several posts I came to the conclusion that I needed nVidia drivers. I installed v173 nVidia drivers & after a few tries got it to boot. But, not somethings didn't work, like Hardware Drivers, Synaptic Package Manage wouldn't search & some software wouldn't open. I tried to update in terminal sudo apt-get update, then sudo apt-get upgrade (I did this before installing v173).
It says:
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of nvidia-glx-173:
nvidia-glx-173 depends on nvidia-173-kernel-source (>= 173.14.20);
However:
Package nvidia-173-kernel-source is not configured yet.
dpkg: error processing nvidia-glx-173 (--configure):
dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Errors were encountered while processing:
nvidia-glx-173

Do you think if I do an upgrade from 9.1 to 10.04 and then add i915.modeset=0 ( works with the live CD) to the boot sequence and then load the proprietary NVidia drivers from sys/admin/hardware drivers, that I'll get full screen resolution.
BTW if I don't use the modeset=0 I get a blank screen after update reboot.

Booting into a live desktop from USB, the correct wireless drivers pop-up to be installed even when not connected to the internet. But upon installing Ubuntu the only way to install these drivers is through a wired connection. Any thoughts as to why this is? I'd love to be able to run any version of Ubuntu out of the box, but experience always brings back the ethernet cable.
Running: HP Mini 110, Broadcom wireless

I would like to use an EFI loader, if it's easy to do, and doesn't require a whole other set of drivers.. My laptop has EFI, but I think the default 10.04 AMD64 install uses regular BIOS bootloader. The HD isn't GPT though as far as I know, it's MBR, as Gparted says it's MSDOS.. (but i do have an ext4 partition, the ntfs HP recovery partition, and a small HP tools EFI partitions, at the very end of the HD).. How do I install it, should I, is there a benefit (memory?)?

I installed Ubuntu yesterday to try it out, but encountered some freezing/locking issues. Seems to be related to the video card. I'm running Ubuntu in low graphics mode, but wanted to install the proper ATI drivers. I went to the ATI website for my X1950 (sucks, I know). Downloaded them just fine but when I run them nothing happens. I'm used to Windows so I'm probably doing something wrong.
