View 1 RepliesI have an ATI Radeon HD 4850 running on Arch Linux with the xf86-video-ati driver.
Is there any way to control the fan speed (from a conf. file, the command line, whatever) or should I change to the Catalyst driver?
How is OpenGL support (specifically OpenGL 3.x) in the different video card drivers available for Linux?Assuming that the hardware supported it well, would the drivers be an issue?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've installed 10.04 netbook on an old Fujitsu Amilo L1300 laptop, with an Intel i845 graphic card. As I know, it would run just OK with the 2.11.0 drivers, but i have no idea how to install that. I've downloaded the driver, and every package written on the page: [URL] At first I couldn't even ./configure the install, but now the configuration runs smoothly. However I cannot finish the make part, because it gives an error.

I've been working on it for four days now, and as much as I'd love to continue it, I've run out of time.
Or if there's a way to use the 2.12.0 driver, then could somebody tell me how?
Yesterday I played a little with a Bitcoin miner and discovered today that I must have scambled my 3D settings. My Intel graphics card doesn't seem to work, instead I must have added a nVidia Settings Manager to my menu.
I already removed the package I mistakenly installed (something concerning OpenCL) but nothing happens. The xorg.conf file seems to be okay.
Gnome now only starts in 2D mode and Unity refuses to work at all. how I might get my Intel card back working?
I have finally got both video drivers working. Is it me or is the quality of the Intel drivers almost better than the nvidia? I will try something with hardware acceleration soon but the 2D (compiz etc) all works really well.

I do not understand, do I have an Intel video card, or an Nvidia video card? Should I install the Nvidia video card driver, because every time I try, everything gets real glitchy and I revert back to my original setup.
Due to the miss of proprietary drivers from AMD for Fedora 12, I have installed a second video card in my system (a Nvidia one) for BOINC calculation. This card is not connected to a monitor.
So in the system I have this two cards:
ATI Shappire Radeon HD2600XT (256MB)
Asus Nvidia Geoforce 6600 (356MB)
The ATI is in the first PCI express device, the Nvidia to the second PCI express:
Code:
So I have used this Xorg configuration file (if I let Xorg to configure without the configuration file, it sets NVidia to default card and X files to start):
Code:
The Nvidia driver were installed as described in some forum:
1) disabling nouveau in grub configuration
Code:
2) Take SElinux to alow the driver:
Quote:
With this, the driver is correctly loaded in memory:
Code:
But the Xorg says that not Nvidia Driver where found (see the attack file).
These are the NVIDIA driver installed:

What can I do to make NVIDIA driver to work?
I am using Fedora 13 x86_64 on a Acer Aspire 7730ZG laptop with: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G98 [GeForce 9300M GS] (rev a1) I have kmod-nvidia-2.6.33.6-147.2.4.fc13.x86_64-195.36.31-1.fc13.2.x86_64 installed from rpmfuison when I plug in the hdmi cable to the tv, my tv says the resoultion is at 720p, and I can not get any of the resolutions settings to look right on seperate x screen with the nvidia X server settings gui. my tv is a vizo 42inch. also another question is their a way to set the video card to output at 1080? this might be part of my problem?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI run Ubuntu 9.04 on with proprietary NVidia driver 180.44.When I change anything in the nvidia-settings, e.g. screen resolution, brightness, second screen etc, everything works fine - except for the fact that I can't play any video files in any player. Sound is there, players don't display any error messages, but the image is black. Flash video within browsers is fine, though.Things go back to normal with the new settings kept after restarting X. However, having to restart X and lose my desktop set up every time when I just want to connect my laptop to my office screen is highly inconvenient. Is this a bug or expected behaviour that I have to live with?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a Linux tool that allows me to transcode videos to a video codec that is highly compatible to the Windows platform. We produce large scientific videos from measurements and would like to show those videos during presentations and submit the videos to journals. We want to be as compatible as possible (we can not influence for example the codes installed on the presentation system or on the journal reviewers system).
Virtualdub suggests one of these codecs:
* Radius Cinepak
* Intel Indeo R3.2
* Microsoft Video 1
We tried ffmpeg, mencoder and Virtualdub under wine, none of those tools could produce videos encoded with the aforementioned codecs.

View 4 Replies View RelatedUsing online Debian guide, installed latest nvidia-current, glx etc which seems to be 195.xx Machine boots to GUI but monitor setting menu doesnt respond nor is there an nvidia specific one. xorg.conf shows 'nvidia' driver but I suspect I am still on 'nouveau' since the synapatic package manager doesn't show an nvidia xserver-xorg-video choice.
Second question, any trailheads for using wheezy based drivers (i.e. nvidia's latest 270.xx) with squeeze?
I frequently move my computer between rooms. Instead of opening the nvidia-settings, making the changes, applying, then confirming them is there an easier way using shortcut keys or shortcuts? Would like to have Ctrl-1 as change to laptop display only, Ctrl-2 for external only, Ctrl-3 for Twinview
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an integrated intel video and latest xserver-xorg-video-intel driver(using only stable repo). Now I wanna watch high-res video. From the bits of info collected from all over internet I understood that I need to:
1.aptitude install libdrm libva.
2.compile or find the .deb mplayer-vaapi and install it.
3.add -vo vaapi -va vaapi to the mplayer command line in gnome-mplayer.
My question : is that correct or did I miss something? Do I have to compile latest libdrm and libva or the ones from the squeeze repo will be good? Do I need kms enabled, i.e. install firmware-linux-nonfree?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn a previous version of UBUNTU I was able to enter a NVIDIA control panel to adjust my RGB settings. Now I'd like to change it slightly but there doesn't seem to be a NVIDIA control panel. There used to be two of them. After installing the video driver, If I tried to go into UBUNTU video settings I would get a console message stating I now need to use NVIDIA control panel and would automatically open it for me.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install Ubuntu Desktop 10.10 on an Intel Atom mainboard (Intel D945GCLF2) with CRT that has been running Ubuntu 9.x previously.
Both, Desktop live CD / installer and alternate install CD cause the screen to go black (and the status LED blinks).
I was able to get a bit further into the boot process with nomodeset as parameter with the Live CD, unfortunately I can't pass GRUB any parameters now that I have used the alternate Install CD by pressing 'e', it just boots.
So now I have Ubuntu installed, I get a terminal with CTRL-ALT-F1 but I don't know what I need to do now or how to adjust resolution or video settings from command line.
I've created a wonderful (until this issue) portable copy of Ubuntu linux that will boot on mostly anything by using a USB enclosure for my laptop's 80GB SATA drive. So far so good, it boots and runs on everything, and on non-nVidia card setups was even detecting the drivers, or letting me install the required drivers for hardware acceleration and compiz. Because you know, the wobble windows are the most awesome thing ever.
Anyway, my desktop machine had an nVidia card, so I'm thinking, sure, I'll just install the nVidia drivers like before and everything will work happily. Not so-- now the desktop and any other nVidia cards work great, but it seems to have completely disabled any other graphics cards. When the kernel module detects that an nVidia card isn't present, it shoots up this nasty little dialog box giving me the option to boot into "low graphics" mode, which doesn't even allow me to use the correct screen resolution, much less see the installed graphics card and try to configure a driver for it.
Is there any way to configure Ubuntu (with the dreaded nVidia kernel module) so that it can use nVidia's drivers when an nVidia card is present, and default to the normal (not low-graphics) setup in other cases, so that it has a fair chance of using what's actually present? I'm not afraid to much with config files, I just don't know the underlying system well enough to feel comfortable diving in without a push in the right direction.
In Ubuntu Lucid Lynx RC, I got NVidia's TwinView to work with 2 monitors in a single video card. But when I use the same monitors but split them between the video cards I can't make TwinView work and it starts a X server for each monitor. I want the same effect I had with one video card.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an old video card, Nvidia XFX 7800GT, which is now beginning to fail and I need to upgrade. I am not huge a gamer but I do play/buy games on regular basis. Right now I'm playing Eternal Lands on the Linux side. Looking to spend $100-$150 on a new card.I have a Core2Duo Wolfdale 3.0, with 2ghz ram and run Lucid 32bit. Also run windows Vista64Ultimate on dual boot (rarely).
I would love to buy a new ATI 5770 or 5830, ATI budget cards seem to be much better for the buck over budget Nvidia cards, but I'm concerned with ATI drivers and long term with Ubuntu. On the Nvidia side I'm considering the GTS 250. The only advantage I can find is lower power consumption with Nvidia and Ubuntu has always preferred Nvidia over ATI, as far as working drivers go.As Far as Ubuntu and Lucid is concerned, which way is best, ATI or Nvidia? Has anything changed with ATI support, that could make theor cards more compatible now and in the future?
I can't figure out how to install the nvidia drivers for my nvidia 8800 GT video card. I've followed some other posts and all the posts seemed either incomplete, or led me down a path of which eventually broke my installation, that I needed to reinstall the entire ubuntu system.Again, it may not have been broken, i just didnt know how to get back in to the gui version of ubuntu, the instructions took me to the console terminal
1.) I've installed the ubuntu 10.10 64bit for i386 in an oracle virtualBox..
2.) downloaded from nvidia.com "NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-260.19.44.run"
3.) Stuck don't know what to do.
