Ubuntu Installation :: Forward Ports When Using Debtorrent?
Oct 24, 2010
I set up debtorrent on all my machines on my LAN, which is a varied mix of machines, including one Karmic, one Lucid, and a Debian Squeeze. These are behind a NAT-based firewall. I'm not sure if I'm getting any benefits from the bittorrent peer-to-peer features because I am not forwarding any ports.
Does anyone have a similar configuration? How does one deal with debtorrent on multiple machines? Does it really help if ports are forwarded? If forwarding helps, does one need to segment the forwarded ports for each different machine?

I have linux server setup on a network with 2 interfaces. One (eth0) is connected to the regular network and the other (eth1) has a DHCP server and transparent web cache listening on it. The machines connected on the eth1 side are on a different subnet and the linux server is there gateway. Untrusted machines are introduced to this network to keep them isolated.
This isolation works well, too well. There are a small set of resources on the regular network I would like to make available to machines on untrustworthy network. I think I need to use iptables but alas I've had no luck in piecing together the command I need (in one case looking myself out and having to physically reset the machine).

For some reason in the 10.10 installer (I'm on a liveusb right now) I can't move forward. I'm in the Who are You? section. It just says "ready when you are" at the bottom though I can't move forward. I've typed in all the fields, what's wrong?I tried going back a few times and going forward but that doesn't help.

I'm trying to install Ubuntu Netbook remix on an Acer Aspire One previously running Linpus. I've created a bootable USB which works ok and the initial Ubuntu screen comes up, I can connect to my network.
But when I select Install, a screen comes up with three ticks - drive space, power source and internet. When I then press forward, all that happens is the cursor changes to a spinning disc. Nothing else happens. I can still click Quit so it's not frozen, it just won't do anything.

I am trying to install on Ubuntu Netbook on my MSI Wind U123. I downloaded the latest version of Ubuntu Netbook and followed the proper directions to create an installation USB. During installation, I got up to the step where it tells me to have: atleast 2.5GB available, make sure power cord is plugged in, and that I am connected to the internet. When I click on, "Forward" to continue the installation, it just hang/freezes.
I have similar problem when trying to install JoliCloud. When installing JoliCloud, I get up to step 3, where it asks about the keyboard. When I click "Forward", it doesn't do anything, it just hangs. I tired using multiple different USB drive, and also downloaded ISO file again to ensure the file wasn't corrupted.*

I tried Ubuntu Network version on a USB stick on my Netbook Samsung NF210 with 2GB RAM but this does not seem to be a viable way forward to me. Ubuntu on USB stick seems very slow to load. When resuming seemed to throw up errors. Resuming from Windows takes 3 seconds. I am reluctant to dual boot my netbook with Ubuntu after my experiences with my spare laptop. Is there a safe way to install Ubuntu on a netbook to dual boot with Windows Starter? how I get Ubuntu to work with a 'Three' Mobile dongle?

I'm attempting to install lFedora 10 from a live cd. I already finished the installation process. But when I reboot to finish the post installation information I can't click the forward button to continue because the screen resolution is to low on my LCD. I can't see the forward button to click in the lower right hand corner. I found out if I just hit the enter button I got through the "Welcome" and "License Information" part but when I get to the "Create User" part after I Confirm my password the pressing the enter button doesn't work. And of course I can't see the "Forward" button to click. Is there some way to go in text mode?

I am new to Ubuntu and am attempting to do a clean install on my second pc. I'm semi computer illiterate, and I am stuck on the Who are you? page. It appears that I have all the fields filled in correctly, with checks next to them all and "Fair password" displayed. I have Log in automatically checked, and I have require my password to log in as well as encrypt my home folder unchecked. I was wondering if there had been problems with this or is there something that I am doing wrong with my installation? The forward button is not clickable for some reason

Recently I've updated my small file server at home (Ubuntu 9.10) (Linux ubuntu 2.6.31-16-generic) and after I restarted my system No Ports where open anymore. I use ssh, vsftpd, apache2 and samba ... nothing start after reboot, I have to start it manually. I don't know what happened and if is it even direct result of some updates. I have another machine like that at work and there was no problems after resent updates.

I installed Lucid earlier today (took about 4 hours as karmic wouldn't write the cd so had to use wifes Mac OS)
In the 2 previous releases of ubuntu I have had to add irqpoll to the boot line in order for my USB ports to work. I dont understand why this works but it does.
With the new "noninteractive" boot I can't work out how to add irqpoll to the boot sequence.

I'm trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 - I want it to sit on another partition along with my Windows XP installation. I don't have a blank CD handy, so I opted for the USB installation option.
I followed the very clear instructions for doing this from the Ubuntu download page [URl].. my PC skips straight over the USB drive and continues to boot into Windows XP. I tried an alternative bootable USB creator (unetbootin-windows-471.exe), but it has the same result.
I have verified that the flash drive is at the top of the boot list - I can also see the name of my flash drive flash past seconds before it boots into Windows, so the PC knows its there. I have also booted into a Live version of Linux using the same PC and pen drive before, so I know booting from it is possible - I suspect the ISO is bad? Or perhaps I'm missing something completely. I tried alternative USB ports too.

My laptop install hangs up after clicking "forward" on the install welcome screen for selecting a language (English obviously). After 8 hours looking through the forums I have verified the download with md5sum, burned 2 cd's and 1 dvd at low speed, and checked each for defects. I also attempted the installation 6 times, eventually ticking off all the parameters like "nomodeset" etc.
There don't appear to be any hardware conflicts with the laptop (a very old HP Omnibook XE3). There is nothing on the hard drive, as I wiped it with a program called DBAN to erase a stable and functioning copy of XP just prior to this.

I tried installing on a Win 7(64 bit) machine. The install procedure gets to the partition menu, and there it stays. all my menu options are dimmed out and I have the choice to cancel move forward or back up. Moving forward gives me the error, "Root menu not defined.." or something like that..
It has created a mutliple boot system though.. so now I can choose.. it must have installed via a live session I did prior with the cd..

I can't install Ubuntu 10.10 (64-bits) because the Forward button is grayed out in the "Who are you?" box.
I tried installing with various options (with and w/o additional software and with and w/o online updating, manual and automatic partitioning, going back and forth, trying different ways to fill out the fields in the stuck "Who are you?" page etc.)
The most cynical is that at the bottom it says: "Ready when you are..." - which obviously isn't true - it should say: "I am utterly stuck...".
Machine is a dual 275 Opteron with 16 GB registered RAM on an Iwill DK88 mobo. 3 SATA disks and 2 IDE disks. Latest BIOS.

Alright guys, I'm out of ideas...
I have a system here with three harddiscs, the first is a 500GB disc which is supposed to contain Windows 7, the second is a 250GB disc for Ubuntu 10.04 and the third is a 1TB drive which contains all my music, movies and stuff like that.
Now I installed Windows 7 first, then Ubuntu 10.04 onto the other disc. The thing is that the Ubuntu-Installer gave me the option of installing them side by side by shrinking the Windows Disc, which I don't want it to because I hate to clutter up ONE drive with more than one OS, So,after installing and rebooting into Ubuntu, I went to see if I could still start Windows 7, which I now can't.
Is there a way to have Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.04 playing nicely together WITHOUT swapping the SATA ports or something like that?don't ask why i'm giving Ubuntu the smaller drive... I'm still a gamer, and my games need a lot of space.I just want to make a switch to Ubuntu for the times where I'm not playing any kind of Games.
By the way: Both Operating Systems where installed in 64-bit flavour.

My kind isp had set up a authoratitive dns server that can't be cancelled that points to the wrong ip address. Hence I need to take all the traffic going into server A at the ip address aa.aa.aa.aa and send it all onto server B at ip address bb.bb.bb.bb. After much head scratching, I managed to achieve it as follows:- On the server at ip address A, set up following :-
iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -d aa.aa.aa.aa -j DNAT --to bb.bb.bb.bb
iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -d bb.bb.bb.bb -j MASQUERADE

I have a "Forward to" filter set up in Evolution. It halfway works. The emails I want forwarded are matched and put in my Outbox. The problem is that the emails are never sent. I have to manually click the "Send / Receive" button. If left alone, the emails will sit there over the weekend, never sending until I hit Send / Receive.
