Fedora :: How To Open Ports?

Feb 7, 2010

I'm trying to setup oracle10g but, whenever I try to go to my database homepage http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex I get an "unable to connect to" error. Only reason I can think of as to why I can't connect to it is because my ports aren't open. I also recall SELinux complaining about something awhile ago, I can't seem to bring that up any more for some reason.

Fedora X86/64bit :: Why The Ports To X86-64 Been So Slow

Sep 27, 2009

This individual has been within the Ohio State computer labs for sometime because educational endeavors ceased building another Linux personal computer since the last AMD Socket A smouldered within a RAM melt. (Have on idea way there was a smoulder because over clocking was not invoked!) This query is interesting because almost all of the new processors sold are sixty four bit. Flash which is still alpha or beta and a couple of Google applications have not been fully embraced upon the x84-64 architecture which is problematic!

Why? This is just a random post that might be locked or deleted but an individual has been disturbed with the lack of x86-64 application support within Linux considering Unix operating systems have been upon this architecture for an extended period compared to Microsoft operating systems. Citing that SUN or now Oracle possessed the sixty four but architecture when this individual started to dabble within the I.T. industry many years ago. There is still substantial grief that Redhat did not purchase SUN for the hardware.

Fedora Servers :: F11 - Cannot Open Ports 53 And 25

Mar 28, 2010

I've been struggling for days trying to open port 53 and 25 but can't get it to work. My iptables at /etc/sysconfig contains the following:
# Firewall configuration written by system-config-firewall
# Manual customization of this file is not recommended.
*filter
:INPUT ACCEPT [0:0]
:FORWARD ACCEPT [0:0]
:OUTPUT ACCEPT [0:0] .....

On the server machine when I do port scan with nmap I see the following result:
Starting Nmap 4.76 [URL] at 2010-03-28 01:03 CET
Warning: Hostname localhost resolves to 2 IPs. Using 127.0.0.1.
Interesting ports on localhost (127.0.0.1):
Not shown: 986 closed ports .....

But when I try to do telnet from an external machine, e.g:
telnet <IP of host> 53
I get:
Connection refused
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host

I also did a port scan with a tool on an external machine but port 53 and 25 weren't listed as opened ports. Also CheckDNS.net on the server returns "Connection reset. Probably DNS server is offline". I am 100% sure that named and sendmail are running. When I do a ps -aux I see:
named 9261 0.0 0.3 85528 14784 ? Ssl 00:46 0:00 /usr/sbin/named -u named
root 2550 0.0 0.0 9536 1960 ? Ss Mar23 0:02 sendmail: accepting connections

Fedora :: Ethernet Ports When Restarting?

Jun 29, 2011

I've had an issue in KDE where each time I restart my computer, I get 5-7 notifications that it wasn't able to connect to my ethernet port. (Or something close to that) I think it's trying to connect to my marvell port over and over. Has this happened with anyone else? I think I remember this happening with Ubuntu as well only it only tried to connect to that port once and then stopped trying.

Fedora Servers :: OpenVPN Setup On FC12 - Ethernet Ports?

Apr 12, 2010

I am trying to setup a VPN on my FC 12 box. Looks like getting openvpn to work behind NAT is as easy as just forwarding the ports. Do I need to forward any specific protocols (GRE, etc)? Also, can I do this with one Ethernet port (IE: RJ-45 jack), or do you recommend a second ethernet port? I could add in another PCI ethernet card if it makes it easier. Anyone know if a single ethernet jack will work or do I need two?

Fedora Hardware :: System Uses Uhci_hcd Instead Of Ehci_hcd On USB2 Ports

Jan 14, 2011

I have 8 x USB2 ports on my computer. I know this from personal experience, Windows write speeds, and the spec sheet for my motherboard. I get USB2 write speeds in windows, however when in F14 I get an average of 1.5mb/s, which is USB1.1 speed. When I run lsusb it shows 2 x USB 2.0 and 6 x USB 1.1. /proc/bus/usb/devices shows 2 ports using ehci_hcd (480speed), and 6 using uhci_hcd (12speed).

modprobe -r ehci_hcd (or uhci_hcd) fails with "FATAL: Module ehci_hcd is builtin"
rmmod ehci_hcd (or uhci_hcd) fails with "ERROR: Module ehci_hcd does not exist in /proc/modules"

1) Why are 6 ports being identified as USB 1.1

2) How to I get them to use ehci_hcd and return to USB2.0 speeds?

Fedora Security :: Unknown Software Sending Data On Random Ports

Jun 1, 2009

I just discovered that my server is sending huge amount of data out at about 1Mbps. My immediate thought was the deluge bittorrent client, however it is supposedly not running (and a check confirmed its total active torrents was set to 0). I turned off the network and went in to Firestarter to set the outbound traffic to restrictive, turned on network again and no more data was sent. A look in Firestarter / Events showed a long list of random ports being used (see further down). How can I identify what program is sending all the data?

In Firestarter it doesn't really say much more than the port. Not sure if it is some misconfigured program or a malware/virus. I just got my ADSL connected a few days ago, and before that I used a mobile broadband (3G) as I just relocated. During the period I used the 3G the server might have been without firewall for a few days and it was also at this time I discovered an increase in network traffic (but I didn't really pay much attention at that time). I am running Fedora 10.

List of events from firestarter, my server is 192.168.1.100:

Fedora Networking :: Tool To Create Multiple Listening Servers On TCP And UDP Ports

Jan 17, 2011

Looking for a test tool where I can fire up any number of ports (TCP and / or UDP) to listen on.

I am currently getting my using nc but its only 1 port at a time (i know I can open up multiple sessions but thats cumbersome), it can't do UDP, and it closes at the end of the session.

A friend has suggested socat but it looks pretty much the same except it can do UDP, but also cumbersome, I have to manually output to a different file per port, etc.

Basically its so I can quickly test firewall and NAT rules.

Fedora Security :: Selinux Policy Blocking Outbound Ports For Sshd

May 25, 2011

Tried google and searching this forum to no avail. Under Fedora 14, there is an selinux policy which blocks sshd from making outbound connections on port 80 or 443. This can occur when a client box tries to tunnel through the ssh connection for encrypted access to the web.

While I did manage to allow this happen by creating a permissive domain for sshd with this command:

Code:

The preferred way would be to allow sshd to make connection on other ports with a similar command that does not seem to work:

Code:

Is this the correct way of allowing an outbound port connection for the sshd daemon?

Ubuntu :: How To Test Usb Ports

Jan 5, 2010

I want to test automatically if the USB ports are in use.
I want to test it in a bash script

I found some information about ttyUSB0 in the /dev/

The problem is, there is usb hub between the system and the mouse/keyboard. The other USB port is in use for the Ubuntu live usb.
When I open the /dev/ map virtual and pull out the usb keyboard the hidraw1 diappears, same for the keyboard.
When both are out and I pull out the usb hub, nothing happens.

Do anyone know how to test it?
