Ubuntu Installation :: "dependency - Leaving Unconfigured" After Upgrade To 10.04
Nov 20, 2010
After running 9.04 for a year, I upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 and then to 10.04 using Update Manager. My Dell computer crashed several times during the upgrade to 10.04. I restarted each time from a recovery version of 10.04, and eventually the upgrade was completed. As far as I can tell after a few days, everything I normally use seems to be working. However, when I add a package with Synaptic I get the error message below. Is the message significant? Do I need to address each error?
I have just upgraded from F9 to F11. There are a lot of problems I appear to be having with dependencies.
yum update produces the following (the bits before appear ok): Code: Processing Dependency: libslapd_db-4.4.so()(64bit) for package: openldap-debuginfo --> Finished Dependency Resolution vlc-core-0.9.9-2.fc9.1.x86_64 from installed has depsolving problems --> Missing Dependency: libass.so.3()(64bit) is needed by package vlc-core-0.9.9-2.fc9.1.x86_64 (installed) openldap-debuginfo-2.4.10-2.fc9.x86_64 from installed has depsolving problems --> Missing Dependency: libslapd_db-4.4.so()(64bit) is needed by package openldap-debuginfo-2.4.10-2.fc9.x86_64 (installed) vlc-0.9.9-2.fc9.1.x86_64 from installed has depsolving problems --> Missing Dependency: dejavu-fonts is needed by package vlc-0.9.9-2.fc9.1.x86_64 (installed) devede-3.12c-3.fc9.noarch from installed has depsolving problems --> Missing Dependency: dejavu-fonts is needed by package devede-3.12c-3.fc9.noarch (installed) Error: Missing Dependency: libass.so.3()(64bit) is needed by package vlc-core-0.9.9-2.fc9.1.x86_64 (installed) Error: Missing Dependency: dejavu-fonts is needed by package devede-3.12c-3.fc9.noarch (installed) Error: Missing Dependency: libslapd_db-4.4.so()(64bit) is needed by package openldap-debuginfo-2.4.10-2.fc9.x86_64 (installed) Error: Missing Dependency: dejavu-fonts is needed by package vlc-0.9.9-2.fc9.1.x86_64 (installed) You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem You could try running: package-cleanup --problems package-cleanup --dupes rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest
I recently upgraded to Fedora 14 from F13 using Yum, it worked to my amazement except now yum appears to be broken because of a massive amount of dependency issues. It appears the old F13 packages are still around and yum is unable to get ride of them because their dependency with F14 packages of the same name. I tried yum distro-sync, and I tried yum resolvedep $(package-cleanup --orphans) --skip-broken but to no avail. Package--cleanup--orphans identifies all of the left over F13 packages.
I also can't install or upgrade anything using Yum, does give me a reason except the massive amount of dependency issues with the left over F13 packages. When I use the graphical software update it tells me among other things that Yum and RPM have updates but of course it won't update. I did follow the instructions and used yum update yum before I upgraded to F14, maybe it didn't take? Anyway to resolve this issue other than a clean install?
I installed a PPA repository ppa:danilo/evolution, and try to upgrade evolution from there. However, there was a dependency fail, and it did nothing. Thus, I remove the repository. Nonetheless, today I find out that my installed version of evolution is gone! and when I try to install it again, it says that danilo's repository has a dependency fail... and it does nothing.
when I update the ubuntu, I set it shutdown after 60 minutes uisng "sudo shutdown 60",because I think the update will complete in 40 minute. However today when I start the computer, it can not startup the ubuntu. I got a screen which sown the message in the title, after I search it using google, some people have encounted this proble, their solve way is to use a live cd to chroot to the old root and complete the update. However I can not. The following is my suitation:
I use Parallels 5 for Mac (10.6.4). I started my Ubuntu 10.4 virtual machine and it didn't load the Ubuntu Gnome desktop. In stead I did get a command line prompt. I could login with normal username and password, rebooted again, but same result.I tried to update the system with code...
I just performed an update thru the Update Manager, & on re-boot got this message: ( Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS, kernel 2.6.32-24-386 ) udevadm trigger is not permitted while udev is unconfigured. Gave up waiting for root device. Common problems :
- Boot args ( cat /proc/cmdline ) - Check root delay= ( did the system wait long enough? ) - Check root= ( did the system wait for the right device? ) - missing modules ( cat /proc/modules; ls /dev )

The Update Manager does not seem to want to show any updates that are available.
I was updating the security updates in my deskptop. It did not executed successfully even after 7 hours. It remain just like hang up. So I switched off the PC and rebooted. Then it is showing the error: "udevadm trigger is not permitted while udev is unconfigured. Gave up waiting for root device."
Now my Lucid Linx is almost dead. There is also no 'Repair' option while booting from Ubuntu 10.04 CD. Pl help to restore it.

I have an Intel Core2 Duo system that I upgraded from Fedora 12 to Fedora 14 (32-bit). When I try to install updates from YUM I get the following error output:
I'm excited to try the new 2.0.1 version of Guile. I'm running Slackware64 13.37 and the latest version of Guile distributed with it is 1.8.8. I see that this new version, as part of it's new capabilities, has a few new requirements. I have built and installed libffi, libunistring and libgc according to their install instructions, but Guile's configure script can't find them.
I have tried manually creating libffi.pc libunistring.pc and libgc.pc files, which has allowed configure to get past the first two, but I still can't determine the correct name for libgc. Further, I am now not confident that Guile will find these where it expects to find them in the end. I would like to ask for some clarification of the install process for this new version of Guile, but I'm not sure whom to ask.
I get following error during automatic patch upgrade of my SuSE 11.2 to latest path revision. I assume it is due to the KDE 4.3.5 Update part of the patch set: compiz-kde4-0.7.8-9.14.x86_64 requires libkdecorations.so.4()(64 bit) but there are no providers. The package manager suggest to replace compiz-kde4-0.7.8-9.14.x86_64 with kwin-4.3.5-0.2.1.x86_64 but I don't want to loose compiz-kde. which repository I must add to resolve the dependency.
I Installed Ubuntu 9.10 yesterday on a new machine. I started the update manager before I went to bed, (over 300mb's of updates) This morning the computer was unresponsive to get the monitor to come out of sleep. Was forced to power down. I imagine it was at a point of configuring one of the first updates. Now when I try to boot this is what I get......
udevadm trigger is not permitted while udev is unconfigured.
udevadm settle is not permitted while udev is unconfigured. svgalib: cannot open /dev/mem.
I'm having a bit of a nightmare with my ubuntu hardy server (using hardware raid 1+0). Following a power cut I get the message "udevadm trigger is not permitted while udev is unconfigured" on boot. Before the power cut the server had been up for ~450 days.
I managed to get access to /boot (which was empty) by using the repair option on the alternate cd and mounting /dev/myserver/root. I've installed the packages linux-headers-server, linux-image-server and linux-server. The various 2.6.24-29 files were installed and update-initramfs was automatically run (I noticed others have used update-initramfs to solve this error when upgrading from 8.04 to 10.04 in some posts I've read). No luck with this though - just the same error booting. I've also tried reinstalling udev, but again with no success.
I rebooted and pressed the Esc key to get the boot menu up. Only options were for kernel 2.6.24-26 (rather than the 2.6.24-29 just installed). I ran the recovery option anyway and got "/dev/mapper/myserver-root does not exist".
I tried to update my fully-working 64-bit 11.1 system to 11.2. I used the network install and chose the Update option. It took a few hours so I didn't sit through the entire installation but when I returned the 11.2 login screen was displayed. Having logged in, however, I found that I couldn't access the network. The boot log showed that network had failed to start. "ifconfig" lists only the "lo" interface. "ifstatus eth0" returns "Interface eth0 is not available"
Network Settings in YaST lists 2 entries in the Overview tab. The first entry has Name:"NetXtreme BCM5755 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express" and IP Address: "Not configured".The detail pane for this entry shows "NetXtreme BCM5755 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express (Not connected) BusID:0000:3f00.0 Unable to configure the network card because the kernel device (eth0, wlan0) is not present. This is mostly caused by missing firmware (for wlan devices). See dmesg output for details". The Edit and Delete buttons are both disabled for this entry.
The second entry has exactly the same name as the first with the IP Address listed as "DHCP4". I assume this was the entry that was carried over from the 11.1 system. The detail pane for this entry shows "NetXtreme BCM5755 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express (No hwinfo) Device Name: eth0. Started automatically at boot. IP address assigned using DHCP4". The Edit and Delete buttons are both enabled for this entry.lspci reports "3f:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5755 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express (rev 02)"
lsmod lists only "edd", "loop", "sr_mod", "sg", "cdrom" and "dm_mod". The files in /etc/sysconfig/network/ are "if-down.d/", "if-up.d/", "providers/", "scripts/", "config", "dhcp", "ifcfg-eth0", "ifcfg-lo", "ifcfg.template", "ifroute-lo",
There is a cable plugged in to the second network card, but that interface is not configured. I'm getting a lotof "martian source" alerts because of this.If the interface eth1 isn't started because it isn't configured, why am I getting these messages?
How can I remove w7 starter from my HDD leaving everything for Ubuntu? Se picture.. I'm using Gparted as you can see. Guessing sda 1 and 3 = w7, sda 4 = recovery and sda 2 = linux? How do i proceed? (I don't know if it matters but I installed ubuntu via w7)
(2 weeks) and i like it already enough to change from odd windows 7, but some people still will use windows 7 in this PC but with minimal usage (email, internet, writing docs, listening at music) i would like to delete as much file from windows7 as possible so i have more space for ubuntu using it as main system.any sugestions on what to delete in windows 7 to free up some space?
I'm a relative cli noob, and I screw something up. I want to remove some files by extension only, going down several folders, while leaving everything else be.I think this might be the the right command / syntax, can someone confirm:Code:rm -rf *.exe *.ini *.!ut /path/
I have a broken dependency. The package is libsdl-image-1.2-dev. When I try to fix it via synaptic, it says E: libsdl-image1.2-dev: cannot remove `/.' What can I do?
I wanted to install playonlinux under my ubuntu10.04 in order to run IE7 for test purposes. When i launched the installation, it mentioned that it depends on python-wxgtk2.8 so i went to the "Ubuntu.packages" and downloaded it but when trying to install it, i found out that it depends on python-wxversion2.x so i tried to install it but its dependency was on python-wxgtk2.8 ( i am in cycle now).
I want to install RTAI in UBUNTU Lucid 10.04 in my PC which has not direct Internet connection. I download all packages for installing build-essential with another PC. I have installed all of them. But when I want to install g++-4.4, it depends to libstdc++6-4.4-dev and vice versa.
I am trying to install VMware 2.5 and when I run the rpm i receive the error: error: Failed Dependencies: /bin/sh is needed by VMware-Player-2.5.3-185404.i386
How can make this dependency? I have already tried linking it and I even tried using the rpm in the /bin directory, where /bin/sh is located.

I have noticed that the initial ordering of icons of my desktop is leaving a blank space on the top left corner. Recently I have changed my language but I am not sure when this began to happen.
I am very new to Ubuntu. I have installed Ubuntu 9.10 yesterday from downloading file from Website on my Acer Laptop. I want to install Virtual box and run Win XP to run some of the windows based programs. I downloaded deb file from virtualbox website for Ubuntu 9.10 and double clicked that file. The installer in Ubuntu immediately gave the following error. Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: libqt4-network (>= 4.5.1) I re-downloaded the file. But again same problem. I am not able to figure out what is wrong. I have got the latest update of Ubuntu running as I run the update after the the installation.
