View 5 Replies View RelatedI tried to install KDE 4.7 from the repositories. After a reboot KMail2 wanted to convert my emails..., resulting in no emails, no calendar, no addresses . The conversion didn't work. I reinstalled KDE 4.6.5 (stable 4.6 repository) and the emails were available , but my Kontact appeared in a mixture of german and english (also KMail2 in KDE4.7 was a mixture of german and english). Does somebody know, how to get german only menue (without some english relics)?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have now a second post on the work I am doing. I am trying to complete a model for translating English texts into German. My concept is a model using a text editor with only simple executable scripts being written to perform steps in the process. I need to use a language for doing simple things like tagging words and translating using a dictionary I am building. I am beginning to use AWK in conjunction with Bash and need to find some members with whom I can dialog on particular topics; even getting advice. Are there any AWK users in the community, using the language for processing text?

When installing from the 32bit media KDE is always English afterwards but when installing from the 64bit media I will have a german KDE as expected. Changing country & language & preferred language on the 32bit does not help - still in English.
Got a little problem with my keyboard layout (de -- German; all variants). Everything worked fine until a few days ago. I noticed that the tilde (usually accessible via [AltGr]+[+]) doesn't work any more. What it shows instead is the "bracketright". Even worse, almost every AltGr combination seems to have changed -- the brackets enclosing AltGr and + in the former sentence were achieved by "AltGR"+"" (left) and "AltGr"+"+" (right). Here's what gnome-keyboard-properties looks like, when I select any German keyboard layout -- minus "insert", "delete", ... and the num block:
Not only has the tilde disappeared from its regular position, it can't be found anywhere on the keyboard. This holds true from the login screen to the regular workspace. Switching to tty1..6 or booting up a VM, everything works fine. I didn't touch anything which affects the keyboard layout -- or is dpgk-reconfigure fontconfig doing something like this? ^^
live in the German speaking part of Switzerland and therefore a Swiss German keyboardThere are only 3 different keyboard layouts: Switzerland, Switzerland eliminate dead keys/sun keysThe problem is: I desperately need the dead keys to type the be ?rall of the layouts have the dead keys eliminated so the only way is to use caps lock, but that's not all that great.

The problem is, now that I try to go back to English, the locale doesn't change back, only the menus are in english. "Apply system wide" in the Language Support didn't do anything; Firefox is in japanese too. Here is my locale output:

When I attempt to install the OS on my PC, the install software crashes immediately after I select US-English on the first screen. I'm copying the entire error report below. My system is configured as follows: Gigabyte P35-DS3R motherboard with 4G RAM. (FYI, I'm using the 32-bit LiveCD just because I may need a 32-bit OS for some purposes. I know this means I may not be able to use all of my RAM.) There are 3 500G hard drives connected to the computer. /dev/sda and /dev/sdb are RAID-1 mirrors via the on-motherboard ICH9R RAID chip. The logical partitions show up as /dev/dm-1, /dev/dm-2, /dev/dm-3, /dev/dm-4, and /dev/dm-5. When I type `fdisk -l`, I can see sda, sdb, and dm-* all separately. (I can provide the full output of `fdisk` if anybody wants to see it.)
/dev/sdc is a standalone drive without RAID.
I want to install Fedora on /dev/dm-2 with swap on /dev/dm-5. Currently, /dev/dm-1 and /dev/sdc2 each contain a separate installation of WinXP. I suspect the problem is with detecting RAID, thus I have deleted most of the error report that doesn't seem to concern storage detection.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have one java web application deployed in Linux environment by which I am trying to download file's from Linux server. These files have samba mounting from windows server. While downloading any file, if the file name contains simple english characters it works fine but if that file name contain German character's like then file corrupt while downloading. After analysis I found that after samba mounting these Germen characters get replaced with '?' in Linux (May be Linux unable to identify characters).Linux environment is set to LANG=en_US.UTF-8.
And we have done mounting with below options,
iocharset=iso8859-15,codepage=cp850
and also try with iocharset=utf8.
Also try by installing following package,
kde-i18n-German-3.0.0-5.noarch.rpm
but it doesnt help us.
The same application works fine in windows environment. I check it on internet, and I found that for this issue you have to add support for German characters in Linux environment. Anybody know how to add German character support to Linux or How to resolve this issue??
i'm running Debian "lenny" x86 on KDE. Back in Windows, I was able to switch between keyboard input languages by pressing certain hotkeys on my English keyboard. For instance if I switched to German, the semicolon button would become I think a umlaut or o umlaut. Is there any close equivalent in Debian? I know of 'dpkg-reconfigure console-data', however even if it did work (which in my case it didn't), it would be a hassle to type in commands at the terminal to switch between keyboard input languages, compared to just pressing hotkeys.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded a 9.10 system to 10.04.The family that uses this computer speaks both English and Spanish. The 9.10 system used both fine; however the new 10.04 is broken. View 1 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded from 9.04 to 10.04 and so far I have those problems:
1. Before, everything in my system was in English. Now, half is in English, half in another language (PCManFM, some menus etc). I tried setting up Language Support but it changes nothing.
2. Cursor themes work only when hovering the mouse over "X" buttons in the right top corner of the window. As soon as I move the mouse somewhere else, it goes back to default cursor theme, even though I tried selecting 5 different themes - same result.
4. Hibernation don't work anymore. s2disk saves image to disk and then it resumes it but computer stops on text message along the lines of "Resume completed successfully".
5. Changing volume with keyboard shotcuts no longer works.
6. Smplayer does not display picture anymore when playing movies. The view is just empty. I can only hear the soundtrack. It is using XV filter.
7. PCmanFM that used to worked flawlessly, now after going into 1 or 2 subdirectories stops reacting to clicks on file/folder list. Need to open new instance to be able to do anything and this again would become unusable after visiting 1-2 folders.
